I got the game 5 days ago. I played about 35 hours so far. I can say that I like the game, BUT mainly because I really wanted to like it. I had to be very stubborn and almost force myself, but I got there. There are things that I really dislike, the camera during combat is giving me motion sickness, there have been some really infuriating bugs making me redo a lot after having to load a previous save. I've lost equipment for no reason, items just disappear (not stolen items). The game is (still) rough around the edges, and that's putting it mildly. It's got the jankiest combat in any game I've ever played (and I don't mean difficult, after you practice and learn it it's not that difficult). Animations keep clipping, I attack an enemy from behind, but it turns around and parries in an instant (without any animation), the target lock when fighting multiple enemies is a complete joke. I like the game, I like the story, I like the setting, I like the immersion, but there are lots of buts. You can get used to a lot of the bad stuff but if you really want to. It just doesn't come naturally, at least not in 2025. Also, playing it on highest settings is asking for a lot, considering how dated the graphics are. The game is pretty, I'm not denying that, but compare it to other games from 2018 and you will quickly see how it falls behind, while still having higher hardware requirements. I really really hope KCD2 is better.

I've been gaming since the 1970's. I have never shied away from hard games (like the original Dark Souls lineup). However, i got so frustrated with the combat system and the minigames in KCD, I gave up. The combat system didn't feel like a "get good" learning curve where you just need to hone your skill. It felt like it was hard to even understand what you were supposed to do with the mechanics. It felt awkward and clunky. The minigames were overly hard also and unfun to engage with (I hate minigames in general). And then their is the absurd saving system. I don't like redoing things. Allow manual saves for those who want them. A real shame because this game has EXCELLENT worldbuilding, dialogue, atmosphere, etc.
@Nyxtroos23 күн бұрын
I would argue that since the game automatically saves after you do something important it’s fine. Saving constantly in Witcher 3 for fear of being taken down easily killed the magic to a small degree for me
@Steve-xh3by22 күн бұрын
@@Nyxtroos As someone who worked as a software engineer for my career and in the gaming industry for part of it, I will never understand design choices like this. If you want to play "hardcore" you can always just NOT save. But, if you want to save and the developer implemented some wonky system that prevents you from doing so, you lose customers. Why narrow your customer base due to design choices. This is the same argument I have for difficulty settings. It is so easy to implement robust difficulty settings. Why not do that so each player can adjust the difficulty to their comfort zone? Rigid difficulty just means less potential customers. You may still have enough customers, but why limit yourself as a business?
@Nyxtroos22 күн бұрын
@@Steve-xh3by so I don’t want to touch on the difficulty because that’s another story. But I’ll say that I haven’t really experienced any major discomfort regarding game save. If it’s a real issue you can play on pc and mod the game to save anytime.

You don't need stealth for camps. If you look carefully at the perks, one of them improves your fighting abilities on horseback, another makes you less likely to be dehorsed. There's a reason for that. Hint: make sure youre charging, not just walking near them. 😉 It's one of the few ways to ensure one hit kills in the game...and yes, it takes ALOT of practice. 👍
@neluuuuuu285026 күн бұрын
Game is only hard to play when you think its a hack and slash (well, at the beginning). Start the game by progressing through the story , at least till you get to the mill at the start and start learning pickpocketing and lockpicking. Start saving your game, steal schnapps or just save and exit to menu then start the game again, its a cheat in a way but not everyone has the time. Your stealth is the best weapon at the start, make sure no one sees you whne u do something, or hears you lockpicking, turn your armour off when stealing too, use repair kits for getting maintenance xp, pickpocket, kill, but make sure u dont kill the npcs with a name. The game gets easy after

The combat is somewhat clunky when fighting against multiple opponents, but when you learn the mechanics (and have Henry train with Bernard to learn all the ingame skills), it becomes great fun. It still requires being careful and using right weapon for right situation (e.g. when opponents are heavily armored, mace or hammer will be more useful than sword). Also, the game counts with the player being sensible and, say, running away when getting their ass kicked.

After 170+ hours I finally beat the main story along with many side quests. I’m so excited for two! I listened to the reviews from when it came out and it caused me to push off playing this masterpiece. There are still some minor issues with bugs (and I mean MINOR) but the bugs don’t make the game unplayable or unenjoyable. It’s worth it, I bought it for six dollars about a year ago and I regret not buying it sooner. Don’t let this one slip by, if you’re a fan of elder scrolls then this game is everything that you’ve ever wanted elder scrolls to be.
