Does Lexus' Instant Heat System Actually Work?

I decide to do some fairly scientific testing of the Lexus PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient Heater) system. It's finally been getting cold enough in the mornings where I should start to notice if it is in fact working. However, I've not noticed a difference between my cars, so I want to do some definitive testing once and for all.

I don't care about Lexus at all, but it's always nice for me to watch a video with somebody actually testing something. Even if it's just a seat of the pants, informal test...I like it. I tire of hearing marketing fluff without any data actually backing it up. Good job.

I had never heard of this before your video. I tried it in my LX570 this morning. From a cold start on a 21°F morning there was DEFINITELY warmer air coming out in about 30 seconds. I think your challenge is that you are not in a cold enough climate/cold enough ambient temps to notice the heat. But it does make a difference when when you are below freezing.

It should definitely work at 40 degrees. At the very least it shouldn’t be slower than a car without an auxiliary heater. I’m going to check fuses and relays. If none of those are bad I’m probably just going to leave it. Not worth tearing the entire dash apart for.

@@williambiel mine is the same lol, but it’s a 2013, takes about as much as long as any other car. Cool thing is it has remote start but once you open the door, the car turns off lol.
