Yup, life imitates art. We derive concepts of how love, sex, relationships, life should look like all from art/media. These concepts in my opinion are given form, and clarity and are moulded by art and then lived out, these are not innate in us. Life imitates art, art does not imitate life.

So hears my two cents, art is something that incites emotion into an individual but this concept can only be possible with capacity for conciousness that humans posses so while beautiful things like mountains, stars etc., they can only appreciated as art through the lens of humans , and this can be taken as humans observing life and it becomes art , my problem with this stance is that you're also implying that acts of violence, colonism, slavery, discrimination and the such only exist because of works of art, also your Barney argument implies that womanizers didn't exist before that troupe appeared in heart which is a bit of a stretch , funny enough the main advocate of life reflects art Oscar Wilde was a womanizer. My thing is that life as always existed way before humans came into play, art became a thing when humans saw life romanticed it , dramatized and made it abstract and did it because it incited emotions of them and it may did it for someone else, of course there have been cases life imitated art like the breaking bad incident where a man saw what Walter white did and tried to imitate it , but to that I say that breaking bad has several concepts of real life that have relayed onto to it to create it's compelling story. So technically life came first then art. But you're example about barney is an interesting one cause I don't think it's implausible for someone to see his character and try to replicate it to their succes or dismay but that character aarchetype had to come from somewhere that may have come from some other work of story telling which in turn came from somewhere else which probably came from an artist observation from an actual person or may have been a reflection of himself in real life. Admittably I don't have concreted evidence of for this but I chose to believe it as it seems more plausible to me. What I truly believe is that life wouldn't exists without art and art wouldn't exists without life. My biggest problem with the life imitates art as it brands it as something manipulative and basically means it's okay to criticize artists for the violence that is incited in their names.
