Bass After Dark

Күн бұрын

Bass After Dark, the most important - and funniest - show in fishing, is back for another lively, and LIVE, episode. Don't miss Ken Duke, Brian the Carpenter, and our three mystery guests (spoiler alert: it's David Fritts, Epic Eric, and Steve Quinn) as we discuss the question: Does lure color really matter?

The team at Bass After Dark has created something special. It was a great topic to discuss. I learned a ton from two Hall o' Famers last night. Fritts discussing some of his super effective sleeper colors that he can't get the big brands to make!!?? Steve Quinn talking about how slight changes in color can make the day. All great insights. Honored to be a guest. Thank you Ken, Brian and Nathan. Keep the great topics coming.

An interesting nugget of food for thought. It doesn’t actually matter if your bait is the color red, if you’re fishing with your bait in deeper than 15 feet of water. The color red in the light spectrum is fully absorbed by the water within the first 12-15 feet of water. Which is why when you see spear fishermen diving in the ocean, blood often times looks completely green in color, until they are closer to the surface. When a color is absorbed by water, anything that is that color, at a deeper depth, becomes a color much more similar to the surrounding water, or black in appearance. So any red baits, in water deeper than about 15 feet, will have a dark green to greenish blue to black appearance, depending on the depth.

It's the forerunner to what Ike would do nowadays in Michigan in rivers, or Pennsylvania for the lake-run rainbow trout. The British had a series on game and course angling tradition, which had the footage of anglers from a bygone age. Entitled 'Anglers Corner', with a pipe smoking older gentleman seated in his study. There was both the series 'Anglers Corner Game Fishing' and 'Coarse Fishing'. In which an angler fishes on the Lunn river using a Devon minnow bait. The jerk bait lure came along after, which was a more sophisticated lure by comparison. However, even when throwing Devon minnow lures, they still carried a number of colours.
