Dude what!?!?! That is nuts. I seriously thought there would be barely any difference. Epic test yo!

I have heard that the gaff tape X over the center of the speaker (usually on fender combo) is to defuse the high end a bit there are also defusion products out there. Part of that was that the front row whos ears were level with your amp would get a lot of harsh/painful highs. Now days stage volumes can be pretty low but its a cheep defusion

I totally hear the difference, but the masking tape makes it sounds closed off to me. I like the big open sound without the tape. Also, never heard of this before!!

Totally! It’s like the tape... masks... the sound 😆 thanks for watching brotha

I thinks it s the tape masking a bit the rejection hole at the back of the capsule, tho the mic is more on a large cardioid rather than cardioid pattern. ;)

Many engineers used to put tissue paper on their Yamaha NS10s.

Really? That’s cool - some simple hacks can go a long way

This only cause comb filtering on the orignal NS10, the NS10 Studio have foam around the tweeter for lowering phase shift cause by the cabinet, wich help to time the harsh high.

@@Fab_Rice interesting! I didn’t know that, but I also don’t know too much about NS10s other than that they are everywhere 😆

Obvious difference. Not gonna say which is “best” as I don’t really care. ;)
