As I recall, Miami cited their desire to maintain a presence in the Northeast (in order to recruit new students) when the ACC lured UM from the Big East in 2003. That's why Miami insisted that Boston College and Syracuse come with them to the ACC. And perhaps that's why Miami still prefers the ACC today.

Miami is a private school! They go according to the board of trustee and big time boosters who donate and have say so on that board. They aren't FSU and Clemson who are state funded schools who have to be transparent with making any moves. Miami is talking about things behind the scenes. Trust me on that one!

Question I have is, had Smith turned down MSU would he have been offered the UDub job? I get the feeling he is going to be miserable in East Lansing. I think he will do okay there but IMO he will be gone (not fired) after 2 years. Especially if if Jefd Fisch does well and ends up in the NFL and UDub opens up.

Why leave? The ACC will be much easier to win after FSU and Clemson leave. I doubt anyone else will be able to afford to pay the exit fees, or find a quick home in the SEC or B1G. The Big12 is a non-starter: first you pay to leave the ACC, then you add travel, then you end up in the same level league making the same money. There would be no point. The ACC will not implode, it will reload if it loses a few teams. Louisville and Stanford (just wait) will follow the same logic -- stay in a good league, cash the checks, play an easier schedule than the Power2, and make the playoffs more often. (Sure the SEC and B1G will get more teams in, but the top third of those conferences will be brutal.)

Maybe Miami is waiting for FSU and Clemson to pave the way to leaving the ACC, and then they try to pair with ND to join the Big Ten? They seem like better fits in the B1G than FSU and Clemson.

Notre Dame + Stanford to the Big10 is the other rumor. That almost happened last year, but Notre Dame wanted to stay independent then. Now with the new playoff structure they might rethink things.

Miami knows… The winner of the ACC conference championship game, and likely the loser of that game, are going to get into the playoffs. Apparently, Clemson and Florida State think they have a snowballs chance in hell of EVER making the playoffs if they were in the SEC or the Big Ten. Who was it that indicated Clemson and Florida State are not AAU institutions? Duh! They would be getting paid extra millions of dollars each year to become irrelevant and be quiet. And don’t give me that tired old line about how good those two teams are and how well they will do against traditional SEC teams. In order to make the playoffs in the SEC, you have to be better than 14 other teams. In order to make the playoffs in the ACC, you have to be better than 3 other teams. Knuckleheads…

lol. FSU beat LSU two years in a row, beat the SEC (East) Champ Gators many times, gave one SEC team a 22-point lead and another an 18-point lead and won both games. FSU is already in the top 3 of the SEC or B1G at worst.

@@rynebozzell You act like the SEC is actually tough. You actually drink the koolaid. It's sad. FSU has been beating SEC teams since before you were born. TAMU and Missouri, generally also-rans in the Big 12, came in and had immediate success in the SEC. TAMU beat big bad Alabubba in Bryant Denny Stadium in Year 1 and Mizzou won the SEC LEast 2 of their first 3 seasons.
@rynebozzell2 ай бұрын
@@encycl07pedia- again, that is exactly the response I was predicting. Allow me to retort. Florida State is absolutely nothing without Bobby Bowden and having been in the ACC for the past 25 years, the ACC being an extremely weak conference with nothing more than leftovers from the big east. Clemson, without Dabo, is nothing more than Mississippi State; a very tough team to play which only reaches championship level every seven years or so. It’s tough! Don’t break your arm, patting yourself on the back. Playing in Conference games in the SEC is exponentially tougher and more important than playing in Conference games in the ACC. The fact that I’m explaining this, underscores my initial point and the hubris of fans of schools in other conferences as they approach the level of competition in the SEC - not to mention better coaches with more head coach experience and more wins and more championships. Texas and Oklahoma think they are going to be better than average also. But they will find out it is very difficult to stay in the top 20% of the SEC and make the playoffs often; much more difficult than they expected. Florida State and Clemson will do themselves a favor to stay in the ACC and renegotiate the television contract with ESPN. That agreement needs to be finalized by June, 2025. Having said all that, I’m picking Florida State to go to the playoffs this year. They will probably even get chosen over a more deserving team. Good for them. It will be the last one they see if they leave the ACC. Enjoy your season.
@encycl07pedia-2 ай бұрын
@@rynebozzell I guess you don't realize FSU won a consensus national championship without Bobby Bowden. It's as much as I'd expect from a Louisiana hick. FSU was or should have been a championship contender with at least 3 different coaches. That's not counting Bill Peterson or Don Veller. FSU beat LSU in a neutral site game worse than Alabubba beat LSU at home. "It's so tuff." Yeah, right. If it were, there wouldn't be so many undefeated SEC champs. You're still mad FSU owns LSU. I would be, too.
