European colonialism is no different than Arab or Asian colonialism. Only difference is we were better at logistics and could maintain far colonies. We ended slavery, created animal and womans rights the list goes on. Europeans have NOTHING to be ashamed of. Especially when the 1% were responsible for most of the atrocities not the common man. We are less then 8% of the worlds population yet we are actively being replaced in our homelands. Enough is enough, its not about hating other races or cultures. Its about loving our own and preserving it.

Our history is incredible and should not be forgotten. We are just today’s custodians, tomorrow we will be history ourselves. How the people from a small windswept island ended up conquering huge chunks of the world and ruling over its vast populations is incredible. Our story is full of adventure, great victories and embarrassing defeats, triumph and disaster, great heroes and villains, acts of genius and stupidity. Central to story is poor old Tommy Atkins, who marched to the far corners of the earth, often with inadequate equipment, for a pittance in pay, and yet time and time again went into battle with such pluck and courage, that he defeated armies which greatly outnumbered him. It’s a vast history with many stories still to be discovered and although today we don’t go out conquering the world, these tales can surely be an inspiration for the generations to come. Thank you for producing such great, professional videos on this fascinating subject!

I just found your channel right now, but I can say as an American that British military history is VERY important! Don't let your enemies, foreign or domestic, tell your story or destroy it. I'm very fond of military history (having earned a Bachelor in the Arts on the subject from Southern New Hampshire University) and especially the history of the British military spanning the centuries. The Third Crusade is my favorite from Crusading history, specifically because of the larger than life presence of your king, Richard the Lionheart! And more recently, a lot of our veterans are returning from the Global War on Terror with nothing but good things to say about the modern British military, especially the daring exploits of the SAS. There's one humorous story I read from one American special forces veteran who said that when SAS operators were leaving a shared US/UK base one night to conduct an operation they had American flag patches on their plate carriers. When the veteran asked them “What are you doing with those?” One SAS operator looked at the patch, then looked at him and said “We've got to blame it on someone!” I just subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to getting caught up with all of your videos. Happy New Year from across the pond!

@davidcolin65195 күн бұрын
Considering that the UK has managed to pretty much destroy most of your freedoms, with the single vote for Brexit, I'm really not sure what those sacrifices were for. But it's not just Brexit, it's the Tory Party, which loves to dress itself up in the Union Flag (commonly referred to as a jack), but which managed to virtually eliminate all the provisions of Magna Carta in less than 40 years. I know that Magna Carta was intended to protect the rights of the barons, not the populace, but it really did come to affect and protect the rights of all the citizens. Freedom of speech Freedom to demonstrate Freedom of association Squatters' rights Rights to roam A 24 hour limit to being held without charges Freedom of religion Freedom from fear of the government sequestering funds and the freedom to unionise All of the above have been wiped off the UK statutes in the past 40 years, Not living in the UK any more, I am not subject to the constant drip, drip, drip of the right wing media persuading you that it's "all for the best", that "those who don't break the law, have nothing to fear". while those same press barons have threatened and destroyed thiose freedoms and supported their removal. And each time I have to go back to the UK I am reminded how much has been lost. Patriotism isn't about supporting your country, no matter what. It is about calling out the things that are being done in the name of country, but which only serve to destroy what stood for country.

I've seen the battle for East Africa in WW2 - specifically Keren - ranked by historians as in the top 10 most decisive of the war. It freed up the Red Sea for Allied use. Without that the Allies would have had to ship to the Persian Gulf and drive everything across the Middle East. A total non-starter. The North African, Mediterranean, Syrian, Iraq, and all the other campaigns were entirely dependent on Keren being won. So yeah excited for that one if you're doing it! Keep up the good work old chap.

Regular Italian and their colonial troops fighting ferociously hard in defence. Both sides operating on a shoestring. Yet all the subsequent Axis catastrophes in the Mediterranean would not have happened without Allied victory at Keren opening up the Red Sea. Plus the Middle East oilfields could well have been Axis too. I'll shut up now 😁

I would suggest any book by Richard Doherty, who as well as having family who served in WW2 being a military historian, has himself served as a part time police officer, territorial army soldier and was even his county High Sheriff. Although most of his books cover 20th century topics mainly the Second World War. I believe his most recent book is on British Armoured Division Commanders, but he's also written about the Battle of the Atlantic, Irish Generals, the 42nd Highland Division, Royal Artillery in ww2 and the 8th Army amongst many others.

This American genuinely appreciates your history and loves learning as much as possible about the UK (Especially military history)... We recently visited London and the history was amazing... Anyways, UK has a lot of history that should be remembered, good and bad... Sadly these labor socialists/marxists are literally trained day and night to stand against "colonialism" and divide everyone by colonizer and oppressed, which means they hate your history and can't accept that the UK Empire was actually epic, like the Roman Empire.. I don't see Italians constantly bitching about slavery, the gladiator games, and subduing the barnarian hoardes... Get over it liberals, history was very hard but don't hate it! Instead understand that people lived in their own historical eras based on their own norms, often just to survive. Humanity is a work in progress... Nobody is perfect, please stop tearing down monuments with your virtue signals... Thanks for the channel, please keep it up!

I see a number of Americans commenting. I think a comparison between the colonial militias as trained by the British and the post-revolution American army (training, organisation etc) might be informative. As a South African I would like a look the Boer generals during the World Wars. There was actually a lot of good will between Brit and Boer until idiots on both sides led to the 2nd Anglo-Boer war. There is good reason that the Royal Marine Commandos play the Boer tune "Sarie Marais". 😀 That tune, incidentally, crossed to America as "The Foggy Dew". After several permutations is became an anthem for the Confederate guerrillas at the end of the American Civil War. Came to SA where the Transvaal Republic gave it it's current form. It became the anthem for the Boer kommandos and, in 1953 (or was it 52),was officially adopted by RMC
