The Leafs have to accept players that make under 2 million AAV because they spent it all on the top 4. It is hard to let go of Marner but since they have Matthews and Nylander already they can afford to do it.

0 x $0. There’s no place for a pouty and emotionally frail player that thinks he’s better and worth more than he actually is. There’s 50 players that are better playoff performers that earn way less. Why pay Marner more than them? Never judge a player by their regular season play - the heavier, grittier and tighter playoffs is the only proper measure. And I hate how he dresses - reminds me of Lil Nas X. Marner and his wide brimmed hats just look dumb. (BTW, I luv Lil Nas X, but please, not on the Leafs.)

They deserve both the same which is too much. They’re both stiffs in the playoffs but Nylander gets a free pass for the playoffs because Marner and Matthews are worse non performers. He scores the odd goal in the playoffs but is still a defensive liability.

Tribbles had his hands tied when he came to TO with the core 4 locked up in no trade contracts till the end of next year. I'd let Marner and Tavaras go next year for the 20mil they provide in cap. Mitch will insist on 12.5 for 6 years. Then there is no cash for the bottom 6. Hands tied again. As for Willy, I can't see him getting involved (physically) shift in and out at centre. Once in a while he puts in a defensive effort, mostly he's a fly by guy who could carry eggs in his pants without cracking them. What impresses is that he is so talented, he'll get his 60-80 points without breaking a sweat. I hope he proves me wrong, but I can't remember a time when he actually hit someone. If he doesn't see an opportunity to steal a puck he never gets involved in a play. Knifes will sacrifice his body to make a play, Nylander and Marner, never.

The last contract is an overpay (Just look at Rantenen, Aho). Still hasn't hit 100 points. Still can't be a good playoff player. No reason for a raise whatsoever. Do we really want these same guys and only trimming around the edges?

Leaf will end up with 114 points this year and win the division and conference. Ottawa will place 8th place in game 81st or 82. Then the same thing for the last 57 years. Marner will pull a no show again. Tavaras shows his age and does nothing. The hockey world feels bad for Matthews and Nylander because Ottawa has better goaltending and D. Ottawa wins round 1 in game 7

The reason he’s upset is because his abilities and style don’t work in the playoffs. He knows he’s going to be criticized for not living up to his contract, and that naturally frustrates him. At 3/4’s what he gets paid, he WOULD be a home town hero. Instead he squeezed every last penny out of the incompetent GM, leaving less CAP for other players. He brought it on himself.

Agreed, Willy will be more receptive to Berube. A number of times on the bench, Willy looked like he was completely ignoring what Keefe had to say. Nylander also had Keefe as coach on the Marlies. Sometimes you just need a new voice
