Interesting that you should post this today. I've been having issues with my system crashing recently MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon, Ryzen 5 3600 and with both of these options enabled Gaming boost & Expert OC mode, Prime95 crashes the system in under 1min on Small FFTs and around 7mins on Blend. With both options off Blend test ran for 8hrs without issue.

Thanks for sharing this and the bios setup video. I’m new to custom gaming PCs and have no overclocking experience. I recently built a PC with an MSI z690 edge WiFi ddr4, i9-12900K, 64GB RAM and evga RTX 3070 Ti. So far I have enabled XMP to boost the RAM and GPU boost in Precision X1 where I saw a noticeable performance increase and quicker load times in my highly modded Fallout 4. Will be enabling these settings and testing out! Interesting they put the first m.2 slot directly connected to the CPU but that it’s not enabled by default, curious if that’s still the case with the z690.

I think it is MSI one click CPU boost in motherboard bios that is responsible for my PC randomly shutting down. I have turned it off and no more issues with crashing so far , 🤞

I guess it depends on the system. For me this boost button increased my old i5 CPU frequency from 3,5 GHz to to 4,1 GHz and everything seems to work stable. For gaming this is very helpful because CPU was obvious bottleneck.

2024 Update: Whoever is watching this running a i9 13900k or 14900k. Please do not use the water cooling wattage. Even though your CPU will never draw 4000W, by removing the power limit you are setting up your PC for crashes and failures. Keep it stock at box cooling of 253W and you should be good. I9 13 SERIES AND 14 SERIES are notorious for failures if you remove power limits.

Bro you don't know wtf you're on about. The cooler just allows higher performance because it knows you have sufficient cooling. Also, 4096W does not make "4 gigs".

Why would you set the cooler option to a cooler other than the one you have installed with absolutely no understanding of how the option functions?

The cooler described is just a generic reference that can be ignored. It's just setting a power limit. A good quality air cooler can match and often outperform AIOs (Jays2cents has a video about it). 'Water Cooler' or 'Air Cooler' or the other setting is just referenced for folks who don't do much tinkering, to keep things simple. if you know what the setting is you can ignore that part- just a power limit. It's really hard to fry these newer chips and these auto settings keep things pretty safe, it'll just crash and revert the bios back to previous settings if settings don't work out. Hope that helps answer your question, though 8 Months too late, maybe it'll help someone else who finds the comment :P

So game boost basically did nothing? Ive been going back and forth between putting 5.0/5.1ghz all core and game boost. since im not a wizard at OCing manually im unsure about the voltage when doing 5/5.1 all core. (msi z490 gaming wifi + 10700K)

I could see why the system wpuld crash with game boost on, the motherboard reads the voltage as lower with game boost than it does with the default settings. I got here because I accidentally turned it on. Wondered how to turn it off and i saw what setting I accidentally touched.

need help if possible, i recently upgraded to a 5900x (case is corsair 680x and cooler is corsair h100i elite capellix and motherboard being msi mag b550 tomahawk) after a week and a half i crashed twice within 30 mins of eachother streaming Apex Legends on OBS. cpu temp was 84 degrees C when it crashed and it came up with "CPU overheating please check cooler mount etc etc" i tried some methods to get it lower and barely scraped off 1-2 degrees (with the MSI BIOs CPU Gaming Boost on from first installation) i have tried the method of changing the curve in undervolting to lower down temps being setting to precision boost to advanced and setting the negative magnitude to 30. that managed to knock a full 5 degrees off full load from 86 to 81 and idle from 56-51 but instantly after a full load test it crashed again with the same overheating screen and then repeatedly blue screened on windows boot several times and the only way i have managed to get my pc to not blue screen and stay on windows is by turning back on the CPU Game Boost.... i'm very confused i am fairly new to overclocking/undervaulting so any help would be appreciated

Very well put together video, it's taught me loads about my mother board, I have a mag b550 tomahawk but when I looked I didn't have the option to select water cooling on my cpu, in fact I didn't even have the drop down menu 🤔, do you or anyone else know why this may be, my cpu is water cooled and I have a 5600x

maybe it is a bit late to respond but if I'm not wrong, you don't have that options because the B550 chipset is not overclocking capable, to overclock your cpu you need the "high-end" chipset, like the z490 or the z690 for 12th gen intel

@@Yukidesu28 my gpu is the bottleneck on my system so i run a small over clock on it, AMD's B350, X370, B450, X470, B550, and X570 chipsets all support overclocking-basically, as long as your motherboard doesn't have an "A" series chipset, you're in the clear

Do you have an intel cpu? if so then it's probably a locked cpu, only certain intel cpu's can be OC'd, check the number and see what letter it ends with, then check the list of intel cpu's to see if it's unlocked or locked. I know this is 8 months old but maybe it will be of use to someone.

I have a Ryzen 5950X an Meg Ace Max and if I have everything at stock value and simply enable CPU Boost the Bios won't even load after the OC message comes up. At this point I will get a red LED light telling me the CPU has failed and the only solution from here on (no other means of resetting bios works - jumper, button on AOI panel or reset button at bottom of mobo) is to remove the CPU from the block and put it back in thus clearing the bios. If I don't then I've a dead duck for a computer. So yea nice going MSI and AMD. Oh and at stock value my CPU sits idle at 50-60 degrees and the moment I move my mouse or load a game (hah!) I'm straight to 90 and it stays there ...even when I reset the computer and go into bios it'll sit around 80+. PC shop told me this was normal .. but in honesty they were just too lazy to actually take the CPU out and test it another mobo ... why do that when you can stress test and charge £40 for telling someone it's kinda normal and that these chips run hot. Complete joke. I use a Fractal Lumen S36 btw and have 6 supplementary fans providing additional case cooling.

@JoeyRKDP Hi Joey, thanks for getting back yes I've a Corsair 1600AXi. I'm going to RMA the chip and the AIO. I sent my PC to a repair shop but it seems the world is full of chancers. They charged me £40 to basically run a stress test and tell that it's normal for 'those chips' to run hot. Well, reddit could have told me that! Would be nice if they had actually tested the hardware individually so I would know for sure if I needed to RMA something, seems you just can't get the people these days. Anyway, I'll keep you posted.
