Curtis Childs is the digital media producer at the Swedenborg Foundation. While obtaining his degree in communication studies from Oakland University, Curtis experienced an internal battle with depression that led him to question God and his lifelong interest in Swedenborgian theology. After a period of intense suffering, he recovered from his depression with the help of modern medicine, therapy, and a return to the spiritually uplifting messages he found in Swedenborg’s writings. Now, Curtis is applying his education and desire to help others find peace through Swedenborg’s insights by producing and hosting weekly webcasts.

I had this thought just this morning going to work, that my life (and thus others as well) is not an accident, that it does have purpose. And the things that we do every day and the people we meet are part of that purpose, as to how we treat others or just make the world in general a better place for all, giving up positive energy to the universe. If everyone does this, the combined affect would help unite the world into that utopia we All want. Then, a synchronicity hits me this morning, when I stumble across this older program of yours Curtis, reinforcing those notions that had just occurred to me. Maybe it was my Guardian Angel nicely encouraging my thoughts. I've noticed that the more I try to think like this, in the image of a loving God, the more it becomes habit. The better my life, my attitude and in shaping the World around me for the better. Thank you Curtis!

Love hearing this story of synchronicity, Mach1 GTX! That's the Lord's Providence at work, for sure! Such a powerful concept, the thought of us just getting up every day and trying to bring positivity and love to those around us, no matter what we're doing -- definitely could be a world-changer! Thanks for sharing your testimony about growing in spiritual development and blessing the world around you!

Curtis' talk on Angels makes so much sense since I've begun to feel much closer to them. They actually have real personalities and like to see joy and help out. They're not those feathery ephemeral wispy things, though I HAVE felt large soft dove like feather wings wrap around me when my brother was in trouble and I "got a warning message" from someone in the Spirit world to pray for him....which I did for an hour or so. When I finished praying I felt this sweet and strong embrace like the 'classic angel wings.' It turns out he was facing a handgun by someone who wanted his money.....He talked to the kid and they worked it out and it changed the kid's life....Angels...I talk with them every day...they're real people who've moved on......

Swedenborg's ideas about Spirituality and the symbolic meaning of the bible makes sense until you run into his concept or (lack of) explanation for reincarnation. It doesn't make sense why a soul would just incarnate into a physical body only to just die and remain in the afterlife forever and ever. There's no evolution in that!

Hello Friends! Perhaps you know I am a newbie around here and suppose it was a perfect time we met 😇. My mother used to call me a monster and I spent my formative years being educated as a Roman Catholic. In the following insanely rebellious years, I dismissed Catholicism yet held on to Christianity and began to explore eastern philosophy and religions. These days, I consider myself an informal Buddhist with compassion for all spiritual travelers. Tibetan Buddhists are the best because they’re always laughing 😆 and the Dalai Lama is my hero. I have journeyed with shamanic practitioners and taken gong baths, yet my path has not been an easy one and my refuge is nature. About three years ago, I discovered psychic dynamite when a friend introduced me to the book, “Buddha of the North”. I have become fascinated with the mind and teachings of this man from the 17th-18th century. Thank you for this refreshing channel and your challenge to practice Truth. Your divine love and wisdom would make Emanuel Swedenborg very proud!

@bobouzala 4 жыл бұрын
offTheLeftEye oh my this is going to be a mouthful! Warning, long post!! Written by Andrew Bernstein in 1996, “Buddha of the North” is about the influence of Emanuel Swedenborg on DT Suzuki - who is credited with bringing Zen Buddhism to the West at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. I knew very little about Emanuel Swedenborg and found the book to contain a nice overview of Swedenborg’s life and visions. DT Suzuki was tasked with translating “Heaven and Hell” into Japanese by the Swedenborg society and this book broadly covers some of these translations. Suzuki also translated “The New Jerusalem and it’s Heavenly Doctrine”, “Divine Love and Wisdom”, and “Divine Providence”. Of particular interest is the short article, entitled Swedenborg’s View of Heaven and “Other Power” published by Suzuki in 1924, suggesting that Swedenborg’s doctrine of correspondences may be compared with Buddhism. An afterword written by David Loy explores the common essence of Buddhism and Swedenborgianism in topics such as, Love of the self, identification of the divine, consequences of evil, the spirit world and living correspondences. Yes, a total stocking stuffer!!!

It is not in Divine Order that anyone should die of violence or prematurely, so, people's deaths are not predetermined in that way. However, everyone's death is foreseen by God, and thus provided for. And thinking about a number of concepts around Divine providence and Divine permission I have read in Swedenborg's books, I wonder if there are multiple incidents in our lives that *could* have caused our death, but were not allowed to by God because no good could have come out of it. Yet a time of death that good can come out of, for ourselves and others, will be permitted.

Many, including an old friend, NDE's report being told "It's not your time yet." It's interesting that they report almost the identical words. So this implies that we all have a time to pass on. A candle will burn until the wax is used up, but if it's put into the wind, it can be blown out.

I was impressed by this episode and some of these other comments, I feel that I’m not the only one and the not so alone. Why these negative things happen to people is probably inherited sin together with these evil spirits that constantly bombard our thoughts and feelings, steering us to do negative things. Once I gain a better understanding of myself, I feel I can conquer and control the negative influences.

I LOVE the Jesus Heart behind Curtis. It is not just beautiful but profound really. My 2 Cents !! I try to always look at my life ""against the context of billions of other 'sentient' beings". For me ALL life is interconnected, interwoven. Jesus said "consider the lilies of the field...". So I don't think that life is specifically about just us...Animals and plants matter just as much as we do. We are 'guardians' and they are in our care. They are God's creation...what would life be like without their beauty AND without many of them WE couldn't continue life on this planet. I wouldn't want to be in a Heaven where I wasn't a friend and guardian of these others...How do you see SB's take on other 'sentient beings? '..Thanks....Nona

I think the individual value of our lives that we are here to realise is love, and then to recognise that same love in each other. To first visualise faith in action, and then to follow suit; to let the light of love's wisdom lead the way. To immerse yourself in the immediacies of each intermediate measure, that faith honours action as should actions honour love; that love be the means by which you make your purpose known. If love were to motivate your every move, how would it change your view of the world? Indeed, how would it change your perception of accomplishment? If the purpose of love is to serve life, ought it not be your life's purpose to honour love? In that alone does your life matter, that you live it in honour of God's love.

I noticed Swedenborg says: “Heavens form is like the form of a human mind, whose perfection grows as the mind gains more goodness and truth , leading to greater intelligence and wisdom” ....... I have heard that the universe is sentient , that it actually learns from things. . For some reason I understand a little but I can’t put it into words about how we are ALL here to learn. Heaven learns like the human mind. I think that’s what Swedenborg might be saying in a sense? I’m not sure....... I also came across another channel called “ My life does not matter” it was about people wanting to commit suicide. It was very saddening to hear how these people felt unwanted or unloved or were schizophrenic. They were young people perhaps in their 20’s. I didn’t leave any comments, but I was astonished by their lack of interest in life. Evil must have a great hold on these people. I wanted to help but I am not experienced in delicate matters. Somehow, I did say a prayer to God to make them feel better than they are. I wish things like this didn’t happen to human beings. Thanks for another great Swedenborg episode! 🙏👍🏻❤️🍀

I'm very sad to hear about that channel "My life does not matter." It does seem like suicidal depression is very high among young adults these days and yes, hell is really attacking in this way. I wonder if posting a link to this video might help someone? I don't know, either. But it seems there is growing awareness of the need for counseling and intervention for these states of mind. There is a long way to go, but the growing awareness is at least a first step. I think more awareness of how evil spirits attack the mind can really help, too, which is why we're doing all we can to spread that information! Yes I absolutely do believe that all of heaven, all of the spiritual world, increases in knowledge with the addition of every new person, along with their experiences and point of view. It is an amazing correspondence, that the mind of the collective Grand Human improves in understanding as each individual learns things about life.

3 related questions: Does Swedenborg possibly mention anything about artistic people and their role in Heaven? Are there regions of Heaven that are like artist communities? Does Swedenborg say some areas of Heaven are very imaginative colorful and appeal to those spirits who love imaginative expressive artistic styles? Thank you!
@GrodyMcG
@GrodyMcG 7 жыл бұрын
One of the videos mentions (according to swedenborg of course) that any artistic potential you exhibit in this world is magnified and intensified exponentially in the afterlife. In his book heaven and hell, of which I have read most, he says that the community that you belong to in heaven most closely matches your inner being. So, for example, If you love art and creating works of art... It follows that in the afterlife, you would most definitely end up in a community of artists who share, more or less, all of spiritual and artistic passions you do... Hope that answered your question.

Preliminimal, yes, Swedenborg gives the impression of lots of vibrant art in heaven. And yes, I'm sure there are artistic communities, since people in heaven congregate in communities according to their interests and passions. Here's a cool passage: "In the spiritual heaven there are magnificent palaces, in which everything within shines with precious stones and decorations, in forms such as cannot be equalled by any painting in the world, nor described in words. For art there is in its own art, especially that of architecture. From that heaven several arts in the world derive their laws and harmonies; this is the cause of their various forms of beauty. The silver found among those who dwell beneath those heavens, is given by the Lord from that heaven, but gold from the third heaven. For silver corresponds to spiritual good, which in its essence is truth; and gold corresponds to celestial good. The spiritual angels are clothed in garments of fine linen and silk, which, in general, are shining. And because the spiritual heavens correspond to the eyes, there are also in many places paradise-like scenes, rainbow-coloured, and appearances also of ineffable beauty." -Apocalypse Explained 831[5]

well it makes sense..since angels receive something out of our thoughts..and its probably just the good thoughts..so does that mean the evil spirits also receive their fruits from our thoughts, thus they do everything in their power to mould them in ways they would get the desired result..and so leaving us feeling drained? but when its positive thoughts rather than taking from us completely I feel the angels share the benefits of the sweet fruit with us as well...fascinating indeed!
@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, fascinating! And yes, Swedenborg witnessed that evil spirits do feed off of our negative emotions. We've had a guest named Jerry Marzinski on several of our videos who observed the same thing when counseling schizophrenics. The "voices" (evil spirits) would try to generate negative emotions in their victims, and then they would feed off of them, and the schizophrenic person would feel tremendously drained. The same thing happens to all of us when we get triggered to feel negative emotions, and then feel drained. But with the angels, yes, they always want to share and give, so there can be a beautiful sharing of positive, heavenly thoughts and feelings in which everyone is blessed, and no one is deprived!

And just where/how does the justice system (prison) fit in with this life? When everything you have, worked for and achieved in life, is taken for another persons gain? When you have nothing left to contribute to society because of how society has labeled you? When you have no friends who can change anything, family is unable to help, and the "hope" of a relationship is as much a fantasy as the moon being made of cheese... when there is literally NO purpose for even getting out of bed in the morning except that your worthless heart refuses to quit beating? When the powers of this earth have destroyed your life on a level so complete that even God is unable to fix anything that the "system" has destroyed.... just what does a life matter then?

I had an ex-boyfriend (who I knew for 30 years as a friend first) who was an alcoholic and a narcissist who recently died. I discovered this about him after we started dating and we only dated for 3 months before I broke it off to protect myself. I had been on No Contact with him for over two months when he passed. I never got to say goodbye or know if he had a relationship with God before he died. This past fall he was very angry with God but wanted to discuss spirituality with me for hours. I loved him very much but he did some truly awful things. Since his death two months ago, I have prayed for his soul, spiritual development in the next world constantly. I dream about him almost every night, some are good dreams and some aren't. Do you think he will be drawn to his addiction to alcohol (that's what he died of) and drawn to his desire to control and take revenge on others (like his Narcissistic Personality Disorder ) or will my forgiveness, prayers, and good deeds done in his name keep him from becoming an evil spirit living in Hell? This worry concerns me every day!

Hi Mindy, I want to express my deepest sympathies for the challenging situation you're in. Please know that we are holding you in our hearts. The spiritual world is where each of us comes into our deepest affection (Swedenborg calls this our "ruling love"). It takes a lifetime of motivations and choices to develop this, and what matters most to us determines whether we end up calling heaven or hell our eternal home. No matter where we end up, we are doing what we loved the most. That being said, no one but the Lord knows where we end up in the end. I wouldn't trouble yourself with feeling guilt or pressure to sway your friend in a direction toward heaven. Even if you had talked a few months before he passed, that wouldn't really change the ultimate path that he would be on. Like I said, it's the culmination of choices over a lifetime that we cement our place in the afterlife, and what is deepest in our hearts that we delight in. Please don't worry, for he is in a place that makes most sense to him alongside others that share similar affections.

Yes. There are a great variety of communities in heaven, and certain people in the communities will have the useful function of being leaders and organizers. But it will always be coming from a genuine desire to serve, and every angelic leader acknowledges that everything they have to offer comes from God, and must serve the greater good. They don't help God make decisions. Rather, they take the love and truth that flows into their hearts from God and use it to take action and help people in their community.

Kosmon, a demon is pure evil, a ghost was once human, but is stuck on earth unable to move on because it still has something to work out. Some ghosts are influenced by demons.

SC//// Do you have a supernatural literature source (NOT the bible) for demons? Hans Holzer stated there were no demons and no Satan.

KOsmon, I only have empirical experience and from what others have shared with me. Biblical sources don't quite "get it". But I tend to regard them more as parasites than with horns, pointy tails, pitchforks and things. They do serve a purpose by pointing out our weaknesses, though in the most painful and regrettable ways. There probably is not a Satan, though there are leaders among them each claiming the title. The rest of them work in politics. This website gives some details. www.new-holistic-medicine.com/protection-from-demons.html

It's great to know that we are all important and are a part and piece of a big puzzle. You meant to answer the reason why some people die as babies, or at young age, etc. How does that bit explain the fact that we all matter. Sorry if I missed it if you already explained.

What Curtis was trying to say is, even the time that we die, or how long we spend on earth, has to do with how we can particularly be an important part of the bigger picture of what's going on on earth or in the spiritual realm. While on earth, we're being useful in a particular way to other people, spirits and angels, and then also when we are in the afterlife. So, the time that people die has to do with the particular ways that they are useful and needed in the grand scheme of things.

Are evil spirits useful? Yes because with out evil you could not measure goodness, also evil spirit validate God, If there are Demons and Devils there has to be God and Angles. When I been harassed by evil spirits "and I have" I just thank them for validating the existence of God for me... Then I bind them in the name of God and have no more problems with them.

Excuse me for being frank, but do you think there is evil, has ever been evil, or will ever be evil in Heaven? That evil must exist so that goodness can be measured is a false belief that allows (enables) people to continue being evil. It is 100% a human construct and it does not need to exist. Unfortunately, most people do believe that, so we cannot seem to move past evil conditions on earth.

For everything there seems to be an opposite, Up-down, right-left, hot-cold, coerce-soft and so on and so on... Evil is the opposite of Goodness, For there to be evil there has to be goodness and visa versa. This was the point I was trying to make.
@AdriBraam
@AdriBraam 7 жыл бұрын
Soferia, neither must heat exist so we can measure cold. Evil exists because we have freewill. We have the choice to love God and the neighbor, or to love our self and the world. The more people make the right choice, the better this world will become.

Gerald and Adriaan....thank you for proving my point. Evil exists because people want it to. It seems they just love to create it and participate in it. (Just look at "entertainment" today). Too many people also love to destroy beautiful creations. It seems ignorant to believe that evil must exist so that we know the difference between good and evil. I do not believe God created us to be ignorant or evil. If you ever connect to a PURE soul, the individual is almost 100% LOVE due to their connection to God.....no evil in that. Humans were supposed to keep the Garden of Eden/Paradise as Paradise.......we failed because we believe in evil and exercise free will to prove evil exists, that we are inherently evil (we are not)........oxymoronic in my view. Free will was designed to create love, beauty and to maintain God's amazing creations on this planet. Btw, there "seems to be an opposite" to everything because WE created that perspective, not because it is reality. The cosmos operates in perfect harmony. I know, most people will not be able to untwist their minds enough to understand these concepts. That's ok, a few will. :) Peace Out.

Not enough to not be replaced by an A.I. robot, apparently. ...I know. that's the judgement of men. Not God. ...But still. It sure doesn't help with the feeling of being useless and unloved.

I (Chara) find myself reacting with angry responses to discussions of A.I., Angelineer. Humans are VALUABLE! Don't forget it! No computer can imitate true human value! So sorry you're struggling with these challenging feelings. May you find a way to spend time focusing on more life-affirming parts of this world!

Great presentation and probably a great help for many! THOUGH it seems you have missed out the MAIN element of it ALL -“Yeshua” (Christ) Whom through HE (“which should be the FIRST step”) we can only become a part of that Heavenly counterpart/embodiment (Christ-likeness) in the first place! “Just saying!” BUT great video all the same! Yes, a lot of good points in this Video, but what Believers REALLY need to do is just “Let Go and Let God” because a lot of Believers “though believers” still tend to TRY and carry on (struggle) through life the same way AFTER becoming a Believer and Follower of the Lord. Still try and carry on in their OWN strength (works, good deeds and so on) and sometimes even still in their old ways!. First - Christ. Second - God’s Spirit (comforter and helper) Third - Let Go and Let God. And through Prayers, God’s guiding Spirit will help and strengthen you through life and it ALL!. Shalom and blessings to all.

Hello, and thank you for adding these thoughts here! We do believe that forging a connection with the Lord is the main element. We see that journey as being a combination of repentance, faith, and active charity toward the neighbor. Wishing peace and blessings to you, too!
