It's neither IMF nor China, nor KSA nor UAE etc who are going to pull out Pak .... it's Pakistanis themselves.....they need to live within their means ....they need to realise sooner that it's NOT the duty n responsibility of others to support them forever as Pak is a nuclear power....

India held elections just before getting into the IMF program, that government bought India's famous LPG reforms, the Pakistan's election commission should go forward and call an election and the new government should take the hard pills to solve the problems because the government will have 5 years time to get Pakistan into the right track will atleast have the chance to say that they solved the problem of Pakistan.

To consider a formula that worked on a demographics with certain cultural ethos, will work on another is a false assumption. The Pakistan of today is driven by two things and those things matter to them the most -- Islamic Law and The thirst to rule over Kafirs. As to why they have such strong opinions on these topics is a separate discussion. Pakistan needs a dictator, that shall purge the Kafirs to pacify its own awam. With this hatred as 'urity', the public shall be gullible enough to usher in any new policies. It shall also cultivate these 'kafirs' and keep them at forefront and force hordes into mosques and piousness. Pakistan needs a shit show like Rome did. The Kafirs shall be the hapless gladiators doing their bidding to keep the public pacified and the empire to go on. Ultimately it shall end like Rome, fractured but under new power centers, the future Punjab province as statehood and the others Balochistan, Khorasan, Sindhudesh as leftover of an empire. In practical sense, the churn is necessary. With this step the former core two fundamentals will start getting challenged by public en masse. Once that happens, the formula you have prescribed will start to take shape and a bright future awaits them. Timeline - 2050.

Hi Uzair - very informative podcast - you’ve spent lot of time talking about solutions to the current debt crisis, but could you do a podcast on what is the longer term solution? ( ie what goods / services could pakistan actually export) - IMO unless that problem is solved, this situation will just repeat itself Basically jab tak $ mulk ke andar nahi aayenge, is masle ka koi long term hal nahi hain

How can they do it with such poor quality education and messed up law and order situation? To reform education means you’d have to put religion on a backseat, and that’s not going to happen. This is the country where hafiz-e-Koran folks get priority hiring and entrances to even medical colleges. This is “land of pure” we are talking about, they do not entertain any heterogeneities, which causes a lot of law and order issues. Pakistan ka matlab kya? It all follows from there.

Chinese loans are at a way higher interest rates more than double the loans that IMF and the Paris club dish out. In addition the IMF and other multi-lateral parties forgive loans more often and the Chinese have yet to. The latter are more likely to ask for a port some other asset for debt equity swap. This the key point that is missing.
@uzairaqeel7132
@uzairaqeel7132 Жыл бұрын
The cost of debt is hard to analyse without better debt. But if you calculate the "effective" cost of debt (ie, what Pakistan has paid in the last 12mo including principal repayments + interest) then you arrive at 2.89% for bilateral loans (ie, China) and 3.97% for IMF. Only the multilateral facilities (IFC, ADB, etc) are cheaper, at 1.62%. No question this is only half-right because large principal repayments in one facility vs another can affect it, but it's not possible to conclude Chinese debt is more expensive.

No one will vote for them. Indian reforms may have been created by Manmohan Singh and Montek Singh - but were implemented due to Narasimha Rao’s bold bet and ability to play politics correctly. Democratic leaders with political capital are only people who can actually do reforms. Unless you are an efficient autocracy like China is (rathar was - before Xi). And your people are willing to trade off freedom for technocratic decision making.

@@vinsin328 India can help a LOT to Pakistan if only you could just keep the status quo on the border. We can provide credit line for your purchases in rupees like we did for Srilanka and Bangladesh. We can give you cheaper fuel. We can build 3-4 IITs, which you can call PIT (Pakistan Institute of Technology , or any other name of your choice) and provide scholarships/ fellowships to your students to study in best universities in India. You might not believe, few universities are counted the best along with US universities. We can build hospitals and build medical tourism in Pakistan. We can supply cheap grains. For example, today we have a bumper Onion/Potatoes/Tomatoes production and prices have crashed. We can supply them cheaper for you. Onions are selling at 20 INR per kg. We can have joint ventures in IT. Also space programs. You name it and we can work with it. And cherry on the top, we can build two pipelines IPI (Iran-Pakistan-India) and TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India). Also we can build a freight railway from Ludhiana all the way to Moscow and into European cities, which also you can benefit from. You can release movies in India and you have an audience of at least 60 to 70 crore and earn lot of revenue. There is one South Indian movie called KGF-2 that earned nearly 1400 crore INR in revenue ~ $ 170 million. That's a huge market for you.

As a Bengali, we should also understand what their ideology is towards Bengali and esp Hindus. You should read about their war generals and public know-how to understand this fact. The Bangladesh of today does not remember 1971, history may get repeated. There has not been a single court martial or trail to 900k murder r@pe of Hindus by Pakistani army in Bangladesh. Don't forget their major target was Hindus. 7 million refugee in India and a national crisis due to actions of Pakistan over mindless supremacist mindset. A few rational Pakistani doesn't drive the idea of Pakistan. Lets talk real here shall we? Note: When I state Pakistan, consider it Punjab, Pakistan. The Baloch, Balti and Sindh doesn't harbor such ideologies.

@27:04 calling IMF's bluff ? So IMF 's money will be used to service high interest Chinese debt ...and preventing that is a crime? Has China done anything in Srilanka and Africa? nothing. This predatory lending in unviable projects in the name of BRI itself is a crime. The concerned countries must suffer the consequence or else such bad financial behaviour will continue.

Few things that need to be done 1. Transparency ( example - conditions of all the Financial help / CPEC etc ).. no one till now knows the finer points of the loans availed so far..... so that there is debate/understanding/unanimity and then the masses need to be taken into confidence for the long term.. in any case one generation has to bear the brunt for the wellbeing of the future generations 2. All Political parties need to understand that irrespective of who comes into power, the situation WILL remain the same.. hence all the stakeholders ( political, bureaucracy, military, intelligentsia etc) have to sit down and IRON OUT ALL INTERNAL DIFFERENCES
