Feels like you’re addressing me personally: I was recently at a birthday party, I announced prior I was gonna bring my camera, I had the consent of most guests, still when the moment came I was too intimidated, fearing I’d bruise the situation producing meaningless shot. The others had to push me so hard to pick up my beloved camera which was sitting there readily on the counter and when I overcame the initial hurdle I was so in the zone and in the end I caught some real bangers and great memories. So mad at the inner critic being so strong, yet so happy to have supportive people around.

I reached a plateau with my photography a few years ago. People would say, "You took such great photos, why aren't you producing anymore?" And that was demoralizing to hear that, but the truth was I was experiencing a lot of anxiety and that was impacting my love for photography, which I always found meditative. I got into mindfulness meditation, using books like "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels and The Power of Now and Tao Te Ching and was able to slowly get back to shooting. It was important for me to not rush or place high expectations on myself, to allow the love for photography to simply flow again through me.

Photography saves me from anxiety. If not my camera I would go nuts working 10 hours a day. I don't share any pics on any social media. But we print an album with our best memories every year. And these pictures pop, talk to us, bring back smiles and on occasion a few tears. I am not brave to go out and shoot random events on a street, but I find a quiet joy in preserving these moments.

I began my photography journey in high school in the 70s with a Mamiya 1000 DTL and a Yashica 124. In the 80s, I bought a Canon AE-P1, and I never used the program mode; everything was manual mode. It is straightforward to use: set the film ISO, set the speed and aperture, and shoot. A month ago, I bought a Fuji X-T30 II, which I believe is being shipped by Donkey cause it has not arrived yet. Supposedly, it arrive this coming Friday. Three weeks ago, I got a good deal and bought a Fuji X-E3 in mint condition, and after viewing lots of videos regarding lenses, I bought a TTArtisan 35mm and 28mm, and I am pleased. My only problem that got my anxiety checked is the million-setting (sorry for the exaggeration 😂😂) that you have to go through. Hey, I am a 63-year-old fart. I am trying to devise a method so I can manually focus and manually set the aperture and shutter speed. It might take a while, but perhaps by 2030, I might get it right 😂😂😂. Best regards, and stay safe 🙏

Laughed with the improvised go cart at the top of the stairs. My brother and I did the same only we had no ramp, we just bumped our way down the stairs backwards. Amazing we didn't break our necks. Love the quote about writing. Applies to photography and all of life. The spiritual journey takes a lifetime and art is part of it.

Yes! but only expectations of new content may not be up to the quality of previous. The adage 'you are only as good as your last shot' rings true So, I go out, and IT IS as good! I stopped over thinking and over planning. I get what I get and dont care about delays in new posts. I learn new techniques, improve composition and increased the volume of shots. I have the luxury of growing up before social media, we could be bigger fish in smaller ponds and only compared ourselves to our local community. AND WE WERE HAPPY WITH THAT!

I've always welcomed constructive critiques, especially the negative ones. Only way you can truely learn. I had a professor that was brutally honest during a critigue, learned more from him than anyone.
