Looks like comparisons made with CRAW. A JPEG to JPEG comparison would be quite interesting. R series bodies do in camera lens corrections for JPEGS. Note: A. White / L series ? red ring lenses are expensive because aberrations are corrected when designing the lens, etc. They are for CRAW. B. The 24-240 is placed for JPEGS. It's cheaper to make because 1. Mirrorless mount (closer to sensor = smaller glass) and 3. No need for large apertures with an EV instead of TTL view . 3. In camera aberrations corrected by firmware for JPEGS (only) is much cheaper than perfecting the lens for CRAW. Suits me. Smart move. B. Bokeh is overrated for portraits. I've won portrait prizes without it. Also, there are other options / techniques to that 70-150mm/F1.4 / F1.8 portrait lens, even using the 24-240! Also a portrait that tells a story (think National Geographic and Time Magazine) will always beat a technically perfect skin pores revealing head shot with great bokeh. If you go for JPEGS, they are VERY good IQ straight out of the camera! That's the market for the 24-240 and why I bought it. If you go for CRAW, then pay more, get better IQ and lose versatility. Maybe also lose the shot whilst you change lenses, etc. When I went from my EV Fuji to a Canon mirror APS-C DSLR, I gained IQ (6MP to 18PM helped as well as a bigger sensor) but I lost the advantages of mirrorless. Glad to have it all back with RP and RF24-240.

One can easily buy powder developer in bigger packages and use a scale to separate it in useful smaller batches (but you will look like a serious drug dealer for an hour, so you might wanna stay away from windows 😂.

I'm considering lenses. Viltrox 85mm f1.8 or TTArtisan's 75mm f2? The smaller size of TTArtisan's lens is a major draw.

They put the letters and numbers in the custom settings menus mostly because (there are more settings here then other menus), and you do after a while remember a few of them. And if someone needs help you can say right change setting D7 (etc), makes it a bit faster. I agree about the aperture ring, that's an obvious misfire from Nikon.

I think the complain for "lack of film simulations" will be gone as soon as the Nikon Imaging Cloud gets available for the Zf which shares some film recipes and looks that include color grading. But there are a lot of picture control styles in the camera already available which you can customize to your taste. Retro lenses are available from Voigtländer for Z-Mount.

Echoing the sentiment of others here, it feels like you didn’t even try to review the GRIII. It has the least conventional control interface, and so you dismiss it as “annoying and cheap feeling”. It has a polymer over magnesium body, so you dismiss it as poorly built. I can understand the need for an EVF, but it doesn’t have one. If you putting the screen at high brightness doesn’t do it for you in the more extreme documentary situations, that’s why they make an ovf. I’ve beaten the crap out of my GRs and used one as my primary documentary camera for years now and they do hold up. And they take amazing shots. They’re also one of the few DNG raw cameras and will drop those raws over the air, so if you’re a raw shooter who wants to have the best of both worlds with a rapid workflow to post a family shot to social media, that’s open to you in one of the most reliable apps, just behind Fotos. All these cameras are great, but the GR didn’t feel like it got a fair shake after your admitted unwillingness to give it a longer term review and get to know the camera.

It is a lovely camera, a high performer with latest features dressed in tasteful retro garb. I love to look at mine and I appreciate the results. BUT it is a very heavy camera, and, after an hour or so, it hurts my degraded cervicals, whether I carry it sling or front, whatever lens I use (those cute Voigtlanders are not light either). Way heavier than a FM2 (which I can carry for 3-4 hours with common prime lenses) , more like a F3, which I never enjoyed handling. And, if i want to ease the discomfort and carry it in hand for a while, it absolutely requires a slippery cramp-inducing accessory grip that adds another 100 grs. So, at the end, the Zf becomes nearly as heavy as a Z8 but without the modern ergonomics that ease handling. If I had to choose now, I'd opt for the Z6III without hesitation and forget about retro chic.

7:17 It's not external focussing. If you meant that it's external zoom, then it's the same for standard zooms from Nikon, Canon, Sony, Tamron, Sigma, etc.

Great video. I've gone with 10-18mm(15-27) for my architecture/street, 27mm(40) as my compromise between equiv 35 and 50mm, alternate 'street', then 56mm (85mm) for out and about car shows etc. Taken a year to settle on these. Loved the Fujifilm 18mm F2 but the wide zoom is now covering that for me. So I'm set on one wide zoom and two primes that happen to be x2 apart.

Hello! I have a question, how fast does the XT20 take single photos without and with the flash? (not in the burst mode). How long do you have wait after taking a photo to be able to take another one in both cases? (without and with lamp)

Its manual mode setting and auto setting are very smartly designed for the photographers who started with Nikon FM2, F3HP and other film cameras for creative photography. Most importantly, it’s in-body image stabilization is outstanding. One can take tack sharp picture hand held w/o tripod in low light condition. Additionally, one can use any manual focus old Nikkor Ais and Zeiss lenses. So, positive points of the camera are way more than insignificant negative points. These are my two-penny comments.

So much disinformation in this video. Not purposefully, but a sever lack of knowledge on your part. Let's take the Canon lenses: You said the first Canon lens was the SC (Spectra Coating) version, that was fine, but you said the second lens wasn't coated, which is wrong because that is a nFD lens. All of those lenses came with either the SC or the SSC (Super Spectra Coating) of the earlier lens line up. They just didn't call it out. In this case, you nFD lens has the SC. The nFD 50mm f1.4 had the SSC. Secondly, the later, nFD lens is not a Breach mount. It is like the rest of the lenses there, a bayonet mount. Just mount it and twist the lens. The earlier SC lens is a breach. And its not that hard to understand. Yes, you have to engage the adapter lock ring. Not a huge deal. When you go fast with vintage lenses, you make mistakes and drop them. Even the lens you liked the feel of the most (Super Multi Coated Takumar) is a M42 mount lens. That's a thread that if you don't get perfect, it wont go on and while trying to screw the lens on, its easier to drop then the Canon FD lenses. And every lens up there you have to align them all, "just right" or they won't mount properly. I could go on, but whats the point? I stopped the video at 7:28 because I couldn't take it anymore.

The auto-focus of zf camera works very well, so the focusing ring of 40mm SE can be customized and modified into an aperture ring. Although the mechanical touch is a little bit poor, it is much better than using the front wave wheel of the camera body.

If there was a menu option that could set the "Lockable Blue C & 3rd Step settings on the SS and ISO dial" to become Auto when in M mode (or P mode) on the PASAM dial. . . . This camera would be an instant hit with the complainers and I would already own one.

Those film shots look a bit underexposed, not really liking that green shift in the shadows. It's definitely a nostalgic vibe because that reminds me of what the pictures would come out like if someone handed me a disposable as a kid, but these days if I got scans back looking like that I'd try to be sure to add a stop of exposure in similar conditions in the future.

Excellent and well balanced thoughts! Especially points 2 5 & 6 for me. But my favourite was point number 7. People who buy this camera and complain about the ergonomics must clearly be using larger lenses. It’s like Leica M users complaining about the ergonomics because they are using adapted zoom Leica R mount lenses… (I’ve owned multiple Leica cameras so I get this)

If nikon would have the Fuji style color profiles / film simulations, I would run and buy it (I am a Nikon user). But without it i feel like the Z6ii is a better buy (or Z8), or if I want the retro style, the way to go is Fuji to have the complete package.

If I had some hope that sigma would release the i series lenses for the Z mount sometime soon I would probably buy the Zf. As it stands Sony makes the most sense as I switch from canon dslrs simply because of the lens selection. Even with all of the amazing gear available there is still no perfect system.🫤

Andrew, I noticed you only quickly mentioned the Ilford Ilfosol 3 developer, esp. as you used HP5+ (this is the developer Ilford recommends for it, for MAX sharpness); also ironically this is the developer in the "simplicity" kits they sell, just packaged in the kids yoghurt container, in a one tank use size; so perfect for beginners. the solution once mixed according to instructions does have a shelf life, and is a 'one-shot' and a 6&1/2 minute development time, so not too time consuming, even though Ilford does require ilfostop stop solution to arrest development, rather than just water for best most consistent results so is more chemistry intensive, but at approx. AUD$ 34.00 for Ilfosol 3 and AUD$ 27.00 for the Ilfostop solutions (500 mL bottles) it isn't all that expensive, at least for this most basic process, aka DEV, stop & fix, as compared to C41 or E6 which have more stages to go through, and tighter temperature tolerances. [the time and info are sourced from Ilford data sheet on the developer itself, and the HP5+ and its developing routine, again from the datasheet ]- of note, HP5+ can be pushed\pulled?, from 250-3200 inclusive, but if exposed accidentally at 50-200 special "first aid" {Perceptol @ 9 minutes for asa 50/100 and 11 minutes for asa 200} can be used, which Only guarantees a usable negative, not a GREAT one!

Try this for a filmic look.. Color profile: PURE Decrease the effect level to 50% ( you can do that and I dont think a lot of people know about it ) Now shift the white balance to taste .. for me personally I shift all the way to the right and half way down to increase the temperature to warm and tint to magenta. The pure profile tends to look way green and blue which can sometimes look nice depending on what you want to achieve but thats how I do it and it looks amazing SOOC. Hope this helps

Zf looks delicious, is well made and screams quality but that's too expensive for what it should be, an enthusiast casual photographer ff camera. You can buy 5D mk3 or D700/ D600 / D610 used in perfect condition for 1/5 -1/7 of Zf's price. Even A7III looks affordable by comparison with the Zf. For me, what I can afford, it's still the 5D with a Zeiss C/Y prime.
