Scarlett is adorable. I would recommend taking her to an Allergy and Asthma specialist. Allergies can sometimes mimic the signs of asthma, so I would want to rule that out. My daughter has been on an inhaler for awhile but I took her to an allergy and asthma specialist and the asthma test came back normal and found out she has a severe allergy to dust mites, mold and cats.

As an EMT I can say to know weather she has asthma or not look for signs like: 1)Excessive coughing, shoulder shrugging, or labored breathing (Labored breathing- when you see that her chest caves in every breath) all of those are signs of using extra muscle to get a full breath of air. 2) Monitor her drinking habits (If kids are struggling for air they often refuse to drink anything thinking they won’t be able to breath) 3) Is she tired a lot? (If she seems grumpy or takes more naps then normally throughout the day or has trouble sleeping at night it usually means she is fighting being able to properly breath waking her up at night) 4) MOST IMPORTANTLY and SUPER EASY check her air sounds with a stethoscope (sometime stethoscope are cheap but if you don’t have access to one or can’t get one cheap) then ASK YOUR DOCTOR if she hears WHEEZING when she breaths. IF SHE IS WHEEZING THATS A CLEAR SIGN SHE HAS ASTHMA. BUT if your doctor DOESN’T hear her wheezing BUT she has all the other signs go ahead and ASK YOUR DOCTOR TO PROSCRIBE A NEBULIZER TREATMENT ANYWAYS! I didn’t have wheezing but my doctor prescribed me an inhaler anyways and it worked for me. So that meant I WAS BORDERLINE ASTHMATIC which could be her case too. I hope she doesn’t have it but it sounds like she does.😢 I’ll pray for y’all!!!🙏🏻❤️ Love your channel.

My son was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 2. The pediatrician kept saying that they can’t actually diagnose him with asthma because he was only 2. But I went to a specialist at children’s hospital and they diagnosed him with it. He has been on a steroid inhaler, a chewable pill at night , and he has his emergency inhaler albuterol for emergencies. But we also have the nebulizer machine at the house for more intense episodes. I would recommend taking her to a specialist which is a pulmonologist. They will help you out a lot. We see them for his asthma not the pediatrician anymore. I know the feeling of trying to get answers. I went through it with my son. But once you get her into the specialist and they can get her on the right medication to help maintain the asthma it will get better.

Just as a side note, there aren’t actual tests to determine if a person has asthma. Your best bet is to find an asthma and allergy specialist and have her “tested” with them. For now, keep her nebulizer on hand so if she seems to be in distress you can administer the albuterol. When my nephew was 3, he had to use his nebulizer during asthma attacks. She’s still a bit young for a rescue inhaler.

You are a great mom Melinda! What should help you have a more certain diagnosis for Scarlett is if you go see a Pediatric Allergist! Allergists have different equipment for testing lung function, etc and they can give a more positive diagnosis and they can also help you create a plan to help manage her asthma! There are medications that can help her not to have asthma flare ups and a pediatric allergist could help you figure out the right medication for her! I had my first asthma attack at age 6 on the soccer field and my pediatric allergist helped me navigate it throughout childhood.

My son had the same thing happen when he was younger. Dr called it “sickness induced asthma”. They couldn’t diagnose because he didn’t have enough “episodes”. He was in a daily inhaler before kinder. I was sick of no answers so I researched like crazy. I removed most sugars from his diet, many only having sugar on the weekend. We also did chiropractic and his asthma went away! He will be 14 in a few weeks and still gets more phlegm when he’s sick but we will remove sugar again and he’ll drink green juice and it will go away. I noticed that sugary food really triggered it. She will be fine! I’m telling you from a panicked mom that did ALL the late night reading. I feel your worry. Prayers for you and your baby!

Best thing to do if you’re worried about any illness is to keep a log of when, where, duration and any activities that triggered an episode. That way when you meet with any doctor to discuss your concerns they have a foundation to build from. Just indicating she has trouble breathing opens a wide range of possibilities and they can only treat the current symptoms. Giving them more info will help get you a better diagnosis and better treatment. Wishing your little all the best and don’t stress too much you’re doing an amazing job!

My daughter developed asthma at 5. Things that might help to know. Cold air/winter weather activates it. Perfume or scented sprays are hard on the lungs especially if she's having an attack. Milk products create mucus. Any allergies can make it worse. Maybe she's having allergic reactions. Good news is kids can grow out of it. I hope I didn't overwhelm you. You're a great mom. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 22. My son has an occasional episode when he’s sick or has allergies. I think it’s just wise to keep a nebulizer in the house. My son may use it once a year, but you never know when it will happen. The last time happened in the middle of the night. He came into my room, barely able to say “I can’t breathe”. I can’t tell you how fast I jumped and located that machine (I had forgotten where I stored it). We always keep the medicine for it in the fridge. It helped almost immediately, as long as I kept him calm. Always be prepared 😉❤️ Blessings to you all and stay strong, even when you’re scared. You got this 💪🏼

Definitely get a second opinion. My little guy went to the hospital at 6 months old with a virus, and was diagnosed with asthma there. All of his pediatricians have agreed as well. According to one pediatrician I had seen, doctors can hear a difference in their lungs using a stethoscope, even when they're fine. For the time being, in order to prepare for a future appointment, figure out what triggers the asthma attacks, how she acts, how long they last, how often they're happening, if its affecting her ability to sleep, just any and all information you can gather. These are just some of the questions I remember being asked, you can look up online what questions a doctor might ask. Knowing the answers to these questions will help your doctor better understand what's going on, and come up with a treatment plan moving forward. My kiddos triggers are seasonal allergies, too much physical activity, and illnesses.

My husband and daughter have asthma and it’s heartbreaking to watch them suffer.it’s also scary! You absolutely should go with your mama instincts and get another opinion and in the meantime look for any molds or issues at daycare or if she’s in a smoking environment etc. I also recommend watching her reaction to foods to see if she flares up for example more attacks after milk yogurt etc causing phlegm etc. Our prayers are with you.

Another thing that might help is to cut out dairy for a while to see if that helps. Dairy is prone to cause mucus which can get trapped in the lungs and throat. I hope she feels better soon. My son was diagnosed with asthma when he was younger, I would use diluted Eucalyptus oil ( mixed with coconut oil) on his feet and back which helped to break up the congestion. If you use the oil, keep it away from her face and hands. Best of luck.

I have asthma and all 4 of my ( now grown) kids do. I strongly recommend taking her to an allergist. There's there's no actual test for asthma but if it's allergies it's triggering it (most of the time it is) it's much easier to control if you know what they are. My kids played soccer, were in band , drama, ROTC,went swimming and ran around as much as every other kid despite their asthma.

Hey girl, I really hope Scarlett doesn't have asthma, but if she does I'm sure you'll figure out all the issues with it! I've had asthma all my life and I am a mom of 3 and my youngest is the only one who shows he may or may not have it. My little brother had it and he grew out of it, so I am hoping that fits my youngest, but he is 10 and he most likely does but barely! I know it is hard to deal with, but you may want to get a allergy test as well if they say she does have it, then you can know her triggers. If you ever need advice or just someone to talk to about this, I am here if you like. I know what it is to go through it and not have anyone to talk to! Just one big thing, I'm not sure if he doctors will tell you this, but regular cough medicine is not good for asthmatics, always use the one that has DM. Of course you want to check with her pediatrician, but my parents were told this when I was young. They say regular is so bad. I hope you get some answers. Hang in!

For recommendations to help for asthma that I have been doing myself for a long time is having an air purifier near my bed at night but for someone so small it’s good to have it out of the room, but close to her room to help take all the dust and stuff out of the air. Also to have a couple of humidifiers in the house really helps as well. I don’t know if you have a dry climate where you are, I do here, and it really helps keep the moisture in the air, it helps with breathing. Another thing to do too is use Vicks rub on her chest at night a couple of times a week. That helps with breathing as well.

in 2008 my youngest (4 years old and in daycare) was having issues with coughing a lot even though he did not have a cold. Our Doctor gave him a puffer and told me "if it works then he likely has asthma, otherwise the puffer would not work and we would go from there to figure out what was happening."... It did work and so we used the puffer when his breathing was affected but as he got older, probably around 9 or 10, we found he no longer needed it. I hope you find out what Scarlett has and if it is asthma, just know that she can grow out of it :) Good Luck

I would definitely get a referral for her to see a pulmonologist. They can have her do PFTs (pulmonary function test) and they will give a more clear answer as if it's Astma or what's causing it. As well as they can have her do a peek flow & give her one, and go over how to manage any lung thing & etc. They should also do lung x-rays on her, which can rule out other lung things like bronchitis. (which if she has asthma, or really any lung issue, we get bronchitis & pneumonia easier then other ppl with healthy lungs. ) It doesn't sound like a clear answer the Dr just saying she just has to have 3 epsisdes. It does sound to me like she probably has asthma if it's not bronchitis, However it is good to rule anything else out. I have 3 lung dieases, including underdeveloped lungs due to my premature birth, and it will be okay! It's not easy to live with , but if she gets on the right treatments z daily meds & emergency meds, hopefully it can be manageable for you all. Alot of ppl have Astma, some mild, others severe. Hopefully hers will be mild or something easily controlled with meds. But PFTs & x-rays and such will give a more clear answer as if it's Astma or anything else. 😊

There is testing they do for children to diagnose asthma. One is the spirometry. They blow into the tube and it measures how much air she takes in and let's out. They usually give a breathing treatment (or inhaler if old enough) after and do the spirometry again to see if the corti steriod's improved the result's (also it tells them if there is an issue whether it is restrictive vs obstructive). They also do allergy testing to see if an allergy is the cause of the asthma. I don't think the pediatrician is wrong per say it just has not been long enough to rule out bronchitis and/or other little nasty bugs that children pick up esp with Scarlett being in school now....you can expect these kinds of things ALL winter until they reach kindergarten and their immune system is stronger. At Scarlett's age they kind of do a watch and see approach. If she stills has ongoing issues I would request an allergist referral.
@trishpotts4153 жыл бұрын
Ask your doctor to get a referral to allergist. I didn't know my girl was allergic to tree nuts and I used to eat cashews around her. She was maybe 1 yrs old and she was having a severe asthma attack. My girl is 17 now and has out grew all her allergies which was causing asthma attacks. She was on a nebulizer for almost 3 years then one day it just disappeared. I on the other hand grew into my allergies. I am allergic to Cats and mold and dust and seasonal allergies.. Anyways good luck I have learned that you sometimes need to push the doctors to do there jobs lol Scarlett will be ok...stay strong And remember your not alone!! Scarlett your so cute by the way ❤❤

I’m almost 37 and had severe asthma. I’ve carried an inhaler since I was 7 and an epi-pen since 18. Before 7, my parents dealt with it. I have a nebulizer for bad times. But honestly, if you learn her triggers and minimize them and stay on top of her meds, medical science has made it way less of an issue than it used to be.

How did she do over the weekend? Love Jamie's bike.
@lonelylexi1233 жыл бұрын
Make sure you get some inhalers and she does the orange one twice a day, 2 puffs. She should also get a blue one to help her when she's wheezing and coughing. The nebulizer is more so for when she's having a hard time and the inhalers don't work. Also, make sure she's getting a good bit of exercise and fresh air, it'll help her lungs greatly! Im not sure how young she is so maybe she doesn't need the blue inhaler but it's definitely something to think about.

I agree with Cheryl down below. Get her a referral to an allergy doctor. They know more than a pediatric doctor. I never took my son who is 46 to a his pediatrician when he was sick. He took allergy shots every week. 3 kinds of medicine I had to cart around everywhere. Had one that to administer through the rectal. Was at the Er as high as 4 times a night when he had 1. Allergic to many things. More manageable now for the patients now. My youngest 2 granddaughters have it as well. He also had a kidney disease that could kill him he even had a cold so that was also very scary. He still has both also with Copd. Good luck everyone I know is praying for u. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Where I work there are 2 diagnostic tests we can use to diagnose asthma, one being spirometry and the second using a peak flow meter to record lung capacity over a period of time. The problem with both is that the lungs need to be big enough to blow hard otherwise they won't be accurate results so we usually say aged 5yrs and above. Before that age we base it on symptoms and treat on a trial basis
@pennycole47693 жыл бұрын
Make sure when she goes with her Dad that he has a nebulizer and meds in case she has an attack when he has her. It is easier if you both have one so you don’t have to remember to exchange it every time. Also make sure she is not with anyone smoking especially in car and or home. It can cause her to have an attack.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this because I didn’t read through the comments but my son had RAD (reactive airway disease) which is a form of asthma that only affected him when he got sick! Whatever kind of sickness he had it automatically attacked his airway. So if she is only having breathing issues when she gets sick that is something to look in to as well!

You need to see a peds Pulmanolgist. They will help her do breathing test. They will do a test before a nebulizer and after a nebulizer. They also might treat her with other oral meds to prevent it. But yes I would get a second opinion from a peds Pulmanolgist. You are doing an amazing job!
