@@Evarobinson534Cancer in the tongue? So "cancer" refers to a looooot of different types and locations, but as a whole cancer is a radical and dangerous mutation of cells that grow and replicate more than they should and/or where they shouldn't. So, in general, you can really get cancer just about anywhere you have cells that grow/replicate. Leukemia is bone marrow cells and immature white blood cells, lymphoma is nature white blood cells specifically in the lymphatic system, etc. Oral cancer of the tongue is most likely (~90% of cases) to be squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) which can affect any squamous cells anywhere. These are all over the inside of you mouth, nose, throat, and other mucus membranes (like the vag¡nal lining, as well; abnormalities in the squamous cells are part of what a Pap smear looks for!) Oral cancer in general is fairly rare, representing only about 3% of cancers. For it to be on the tongue, it's most commonly men over the age of 60, and considered rare in anyone under 40 but more so for women under 40. Early diagnosis and treatment (typically surgery and radiation, rarely chemo) is super important, so she should definitely get checked out!

My dad passed from cancer. It was originally found on his tongue. They removed the cancerous area and he did well for a few years. Then it returned and by the time he got to a specialist it had traveled into his gum. Eventually moved into his jawbone and finally into his brain stem. He wasn’t a smoker and never chewed tobacco. Always stay up to date on your dental cleanings and if a dentist suggests further studies make sure you have them done (especially if cancer is a concern).

As someone who has received a cancer diagnosis, I can’t imagine having a doctor tell me that I have cancer BEFORE testing.. I have had to have testing (biopsies) multiple times over the years because I do come from a VERY cancer prone family. All my grandparents had it, both parents, an aunt died of Ovarian cancer and I have had 4 of my first cousins also diagnosed. So I am obviously VERY cautious. When a Doctor finds something concerning I definitely have it checked immediately. But I would be upset if I had to go through that fear and anxiety for the Doctor to be wrong

Examined me and said I didn’t have it. He was understanding and compassionate while the first was a matter of fact a cold. Never had tongue cancer and still don’t. I never went back there. All these people acting like someone else is be dramatic without knowing sht of what that person went through.

I'm really map at OP. Patient probably has signs of tongue cancer if her dentist, a trained professional, is going forward with biopsies. Patient is probably recounting it wrong saying she didn't know her benign tongue conditions were cancerous when the dentist was referencing a different thing completely. It’s probably because the dentist was able to see something that isn’t visible in that quick flash she did for the video. When you’re in the chair leaned back with that massive light directly pointed at your mouth they can see far more than you’ll ever be able to see on your own, even when you’re looking at your bathroom mirror under vanity lights. And it may be something very small or something that blends in well, so you have to be trained to spot it, or know what to look for. That OR she could just be looking for some quick views and interaction to help her channel grow.

Yup. My hygienist does an oral health screening once a year when i visit. It's weird, but she checks all the surfaces of my tongue, inside my lips, feels my neck (a couple years ago she noted my neck was tight bc it was a super stressful year lmao), checks jaw etc. All very routine and this woman's dentist or hygienist probably saw something concerning and referred her to get it checked out.

It lasted 6 months. He Passed away in his sleep. Please don't take any chances with this. It is awful and strong. The worst of all this, a year later my husband had the same cancer. They got him right in treatment. He didn't have to have surgery. He had 6 weeks of chemo and radiarion everyday for 5 days each week. After the requited treatments he had a big test and it show the entire tumor was gone. Hooray. But his doc said there is some bad news. Theyy found His cancer has metastasized. There was a small spot on his liver and on his lower back. He was put in immunotherapy for the rest of his life. Once every 3 weeks for the rest of his life. Please don't fool around with this. Do every test the doc wants to run. My husband can no longer eat. He has a feeding tube. He is very tired all the time and doesn't have any enterest in doing things. My friend spent a year trying to persuade her doctors that there was an issue with her tongue until they finally referred her for a scan because they thought she was hysterical. She was diagnosed with tongue cancer and her oncologist said that it’s on the rise in young women and that doctors aren’t on the lookout for it. My friend lost a third of her tongue and had an incredibly difficult recovery.

He passed away within a year and he was miserable that entire year. He said he wish he wouldn’t have done any treatments and traveled around the world until he died from the cancer. I have geographic tongue and have had several dentists and doctors confirm that it is of no worry at all (certainly not cancer). My friend (whom had been formerly obese, a long time smoker, alcoholic, addict) changed all of that to transform her lifestyle to become healthy. She was living her best life when what she thought was an ongoing canker sore, got biopsied. It was confirmed that she did have tongue cancer. She had part of her tongue removed and replaced with part of her arm. She had several teeth removed so she could get radiation. She is getting speech therapy, will be able to eat solid food soon. Shes grateful to be alive!!!! We all know when something in our bodies doesn't seem right. Have concerns checked out by a professional and try to live a healthy lifestyle.

As a dental hygienist, the dentist most DEFINITELY just informed her that he did an oral cancer screening and notified some slight in normality and referred her to see an oral surgeon. This is very common we refer patients all the time to see an oral surgeon who specializes in oral pathology and it is not something to be afraid of. Please always go to your dentist 2x a year at least and make sure they are fully checking your oral cavity as well as the lateral sides and dorsal of your tongue

I was googling all the stuff that was high or low and everything mentions leukemia. We have her first appointment with oncologist and hematologist on 15th. Wavy/scalloped sided are said to be a Spleen Qi Deficiency in Chinese Medicine tongue diagnosis - there is also some greasy coating which reinforces the likelihood of this syndrome differentiation; the colour of the tongue body seems a healthy pink and the tongue coating has a white colour which isn’t so bad nor too thick. I don’t know anything about tongue cancer; but from TCM perspective it’s possible that she eats too many cold foods such as cold pressed drinks or green smoothies, or too much processed foods and alcohol. Could also be stemming from worry/over thinking (which is said to hamper the spleen’s function of transforming and transporting the nutrients from stomach and assembling it to the limbs, plus raising clear Qi/energy to the head/face/orifices). Just wanted to share some cool info for others to get curious about tongue diagnosis :) Ayurveda also has a cool tongue diagnosis system/concept

finally there is a correct anwser to this
@Skarlett.Rose.Ink.7 ай бұрын
Or, more than likely, he is correct. The waves on the side are becoming more and more common, and are sen much more in dental practices because of, surprise, surprise, people continuously clenching to change their appearance, and it becoming habitual. If it was an issue with her spleen there would be other indicating factors throughout her body. TCM is great for rudimentary herbs, but for diagnosing serious medical issues, there is a very good reason we don't rely on things like this to diagnose serious issues. If it was reliable it would used, and we wouldn't need a firm understanding of the bodies physiology to diagnose medical conditions. Deer antler velvet and cobra meat are most certainly not in any way reliable as medical treatments, and there is absolutely no proof that they work, yet practitioners of TCM will swear by them. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
