Thanks Neil, That was a fantastic discussion and I think Rob, Mike and Devon all made excellent points. We have weight divisions for a reason, as was pointed out. The exception, of course, is Super Heavy when the sky's the limit. Weight is no use, as Mike pointed out, if its simply blubber. There's a sweet spot for every athlete. You can get bigger but lose endurance or dynamism. We also have to admit that some athletes are doing things to their bodies, in order to get bigger, that is detrimental to their health.

Kev Dawg, Devon showed us that he has a King’s Move, too. If the refs are unbiased and call the elbow fouls AND insist that the forearm/triceps are NOT the elbow (which they are not), Todd has almost ZERO chance of beating Devon. The problem is that too many refs ignore the elbow fouls and they let the elbow leave the pad and consider the forearm to be okay.

Been arm wrestling in japan for the last 2 years and I gotta say it’s hard telling just how strong people are here until you grip up with them. At my size I have to pull as tactical as possible because there’s middle and heavyweights who are just plain stronger than me and the only thing I can do is try to stop the match and look for weak points. Size definitely helps mechanically but as far as muscle mass goes I no longer use it as a way of judging how strong they are. Big difference between show muscle and go muscle.

Size matters to a point. If you can gain 20lbs you may gain 20% stronger. The next 20lbs may only give a 5% increase in strength due to the limitations of your frame. Also gaining weight also could be detrimental to endurance and mobility around the table. Then that 5% strength may not be worth it overall

There should be a discussion how clean the armwrestling sport is, and what effort World Armwrestling league go to to keep it safe and clean to promote fairness. More about the measures taken to keep the playing field fair.

I don't think Devon will win with KM. I think he has some new strategy
@bacon91515 жыл бұрын
Júlio Salotti Devon has won with it twice so far against people that outmatch him in power, like Todd Hutchings and Chafee. The Monster bled Devon out the last time with the KM and there is no reason to not believe Devon is going to match fire with fire
@salottin5 жыл бұрын
@@bacon9151 That's exactly why I think he won't use it. If you watch the match when he won against Todd, you can see he got OVER the KM and pulled him down with a weird angle. But I don't think he'll do that now... But I also don't think he will use the King's Move, since Michael has more experience with it. But I'm excited to see what happens
@johnjackson125 жыл бұрын
Todd has a natural lock on his arm which makes the king's move perfect for him. Devon is good with the king's move and has its uses but brings much more to the table these days. Also that weight gain has increased his strength a decent amount but I would imagine he would loose a km contest with Todd
@bacon91515 жыл бұрын
@Julio Salotti @ John Jackson Look at the match with Chafee, that’s all I’m saying. We literally saw a double kings move used by both competitors to avoid a pin. Definitely plausible that can happen again,

Great video. 100% agree with Devon on nearly every topic. Its the frame and Devon has the perfect frame for arm wrestling. You could see that when he was 220lbs. Super lean low body fat with plenty of room to grow with a 6'5 frame. Someone like Bresnan is soft and only going to get softer as he gets bigger. Middle weight guys should be athletic genetically its easy to be that way. On the point of technique the heavyweight and open divisions require high technique as a must because only a small % of the population are that size. A sloppy technical heavyweight puller is going to get found out in 5 minutes.

Yeah i mean, like Devon said you have to be gifted with a frame that can healthily support a significant weight increment, there's no general rule and like Michael said there's a "right" weight for every athlete, but only the athlete himself can determine where that is.
@bruceleroy80635 жыл бұрын
Talent pool size does matter. At the elite level, everyone has a genetic gift whether you can see it or not. If there are 2 people in your weight class, you have a better chance of being the best than if there are 4 people. It's not just about hard work at this level, it's about what your genetics can do with that work.

I think size really does matter. Especially with the really big guys, because arent just big...but are super strong and muscular, irregardless of whether its on or off the table. Like Levan....has a monstrous bench, huge bicep curl, super strong shoulders, probably the strongest side pressure out there. Like a brick wall. Thats why i think strength, more than anything, is probably the most important...at least once you reach that too level. It seems like the strongest guys usually wins...at the very top level, though. It doesnt seem to matter so much with the heavyweight and lightweight guys, because they are all pretty strong for their size and technically great, but they can move more, are usually faster....so they are likely to be more technical, and leverage matters a little bit more. But....a really interesting topic.

10:20 Very true point Devon says here. Applies to MMA, look at featherweight and super heavies, regular guys don't relate or respect those champions as much cause 1. they can't relate and 2. the competitions slimmers, most guys 180-230 athletically.
