I’ve always heard Soapy water takes out wasps hornets yellow jackets, I figured I’d try it out for myself and see. It absolutely is effective but it’s not as fast. A lot cheaper and a lot less messy. At this point I’m gonna be using this method again **************************************************

If you are using it to kill insects, then you need to adjust your ratios. You want to make sure you add enough dishwashing liquid that it changes the color of the water effectively. Also, make sure you are using _Dishwashing liquid_ not handsoap. Dishwashing liquid will absolutely knock them out of the air. It doesn't poison them like bug sprays. The dish soap is reducing the surface tension of the water allowing it to enter the insects spiracles, which is what it uses to breath. If they are coated they can't fly, and the reason it doesn't kill them immediately is because they are technically drowning to death. But trust me, death is assured as soon as you spray them. Just coat them, and let them crawl for a bit, eventually, they'll stop moving. You don't need to keep spraying.

You notice how the wasp you're spraying inside doesn't fly away? It might not die or drop immediately, but the soapy water should prevent it from flying immediately. That's the most important thing. Who cares if it takes 5 minutes for it to die? As long as it can't fly and sting you.

Dawn dish soap works very well. If the wasps aren't dying quickly, add more soap in it. The amount of soap is the key because you need enough on them to clog their breathing causing them to instantly become disabled. They maybe able to crawl out of the nest and such but they won't fly. They will drop right away after crawling out. The soap also adds weight to their wings. An easy way when you are facing a large nest is get one of those soap guns used for car washing. Fill the soap container on the gun with Dawn dish soap. Those car wash guns purposely shoot soap suds and that is what you want. They also tend to be pressure washers so you can keep some distance so you don't have to stand under the nest.

More important than the soap, detergent or other insecticide is when it's used. Don't assault a hornet nest on a bright, warm sunny day. Wasps tend to nest lower, whereas hornets higher. There's some cross-over, sure. This aside, make some mental or even written notes during the day. Then wait 'till dark, air cools down. See where I'm going? Now it's your turn to wreak havoc.

I recently saw this method & look forward to using it. I have a lot of sheds, outer doors, eaves, gable vents & vehicles. Every year get a bunch of them at all those places. I've been trying to sparingly use the spray cans each year, but they are expensive and only last a handful of times doing only a few blasts each time. Just too expensive for the relatively limited number of sprays. Too much $ & many cans for the number of wasps I have to deal with each year. So this should be awesome. Able to take them all out with very little cost in comparison. Because of the cost & spray can issues, I often would just leave a bunch of nests and have to risk being stung getting tools or going certain places on my property, but if this works I'm going to get them all gone. As well as won't have to breath or worry about getting poisin on me, when blasting inside places. Great all around.

Yes, it works. I bought a garden sprayer and going to put soapy water on my hose to put soapy water up higher under the eaves where they like to nest. The soap strips them of their coating, their exoskeleton and then suffocates them, which does kill them. If you put a few drops of soap in water around your house, they like my water can, then they can't just drink and fly away, they get stuck in the soapy water even if it's just a little bit of soap.

I’ve had great success with Armor All. It’s goopy enough to work a little quicker than just soapy water. I’ve also added castor oil and lemon essential oil to the soapy water to slow them down. Luckily so far the nests have been outside a window so I’ve been able to crack the window and spray from safety. A strong stream is critical. Armor All bottles have good “stream.”

It works for sure. I recommend Dawn soap.. about 6 or 7 full long squeezes in one of those 1 gallon pressure hand pump sprayers works amazingly well. And yes, it will knock them out of the air and kill them . The more soap (to an extent) the faster it killes them. It's my understanding they breath through their skin, the soapy water coats the skin and the quickly suffocate. I use it all the time, it kills, it smells good and it's safe around family and pets..

Good stuff. Disp soap (it's stickier) and water has been my go-to for years because I don't want spectracide around my family or dogs. I use a lot of soap and cups of water and just fling it at the nest. They all drop, even quicker than with the spectracide. The key seems to be saturation. My theory is that the sticky water chokes off all their tracheas/spiracles, but if they get a little bit on them it affects them and they eventually may die or not. I don't know about going after the enclosed hornet nest though because wasps in the interior won't get saturated. You're braver than I am!

The bees, wasps and most bugs breath thru their abdomen, this mix clogs up those breathing holes and kills the bugs. One some bugs like ants it breaks down the protective bearing on the out side and the bug dies. Just FYI, ants and wasps are related :)

Anything that coats the tail section of their body in a film layer will suffocate them. As you said it takes a while. My past go-to was cooking oil spray. Non-toxic, can get on food or even in your eyes on windy days. Soap is not so friendly but, as you say much more 'house friendly' so to speak. WD40 drops them in flight and they are dead before they hit the ground. Nozzle straw extends range and can be used with appropriately sized tubing on soap spray containers.

Yep more soap. About a fingers thickness of dish soap in the bottle will drop ‘em. Wasps breathe through their ‘skin’ or exoskeleton the soapy water quickly coats them and suffocates them. If you’re dealing with a large nest you might need to soak it twice to be sure. This is better all round if you discard the dead wasps in the garden this method is much safer than propagating harsh chemicals down the food chain.

What i do is get a gallon pump sprayer. Fill it up with water and put exactly 3 ounces of soap. maybe more if you want. And when you pump it up and spray them....The pressure from the pump sprayer will knock them down on the ground right away where they will later die or i just step on them if im able to just to make sure

How about a small 1 gal. pump-up sprayer just for this purpose? A little extra Dawn detergent and wham, no more wasps!

It incapacitates them quickly usually, I sprayed one on the window, it didn't react for a second, then it drops and dies slowly. Didn't get as upset as they tend to when you hit them with an insecticide, if you don't hit them right on with the insecticide they will buzz at you angrily until it knocks them down.

Used this on a wasp next today, filled a spray bottle and added quite a bit of dish soap and i could literally just shoot them straight out of the air and they were dead within 3 - 10 seconds every time.

A 1 Qt Pan Half full of Boiling water is what I use to take out Yellow Jacker Nest up to 7-8 inches wide with At least A hundred Yellow Jackets on it And it works every time it kills every one of them ! And I have never got stung ! This is an outside method but I would use it inside rather than poison ! During the day time so I could be sure to hit the nest ! But the soapy waiter sounds ok but my way is quicker on Yellow Jackets nest ! Also A small elect fan remove the blade and replace it with a stiff piece of 10 inch copper wire and Place it By The Nest and turn it on medium And the spinning wire will kill any that come out or go in the nest Try it it will also work ! Takes a little longer But it will kill ever Wasp that try to enter or leave the nest !

If I get a wasp inside I use a Dyson cordless vac. Then I don't have soapy water to clean up. Might try the soapy water outside though.

Do more like a 2:1 water to soap ratio. Yeah it’s a ton of soap, but it will kill them in 1-2 minutes and will knock them out of the air in one good hit

I use a 2 gallon round up pump sprayer from home depot about 1 cup of degreasing dish soap and knock them down from 15 ft away using a straight stream not a mist. I get them as they fly towards the entry point. I killed about 100 in 3 hours it took a few seconds some died instantly.

8 table spoons of Dawn liquid dish soap to 1 quart of water - spray on any insect and they start to die - the liquid forms a barrier and they can't breath - in 1 to 5 minutes they are dead.

Doesn't seem to work in California ;-) They'll slow down, but after a while they are back doing their thing. But I was using biodegradable soap, maybe it was too weak. Same for peppermint oil by itself or added to the soap. Within a few hours they were back in action. The really odd thing is that they hated the peppermint enough to have the unborn juveniles emerge and try to fly away. So I finally got impatient and used RAID, and got an asthma attack just from breathing nearby air 10 minutes later when checking to see if they died (entire nest died of course).
