Gonna go out on a limb here and guess it might've had something to do with smell. They're not intelligent and they probably don't have much visual recognition going on in their brain. The guy probably had his scent all over that camera and stand from how much skin contact he made while the drone, which just needed to be placed down, had minimal. So if that's the case then when on attack mode they don't perceive the drone as existing and instead focus on attacking what they believe to be a living creature. Kinda like a weird version of T rex vision. That's all speculation though and I honestly have no clue how their brains work.

I think this might be a clue about how hornets perceive their surroundings. Presumably the camera is emitting some type of electromagnetic field that the drone is not, to make them think its a threatening animal. Apparently they dont rely on sight or sound very much, if it were the case they wouldn't have even noticed the cameras for the loud, erratically moving drone that just cut a hole in their hive.

Hornet stings are insane. I remember getting stung outside my parents house when I was a kid and my step dad calling me a wuss about it. Then a few days later he was trimming the hedges, the hornets nest ended up being in there, and they stung him like five times. He went running and diving into my little brother/sister's baby pool at 6'3 and 280lb and I laughed my ass off looking out the screen door. His turn to be the wuss.

Ever wonder how WASPS kill other bees who dare enter their hive? The Wasps flap all their wings extremely fast which causes intense heat to build up around intruders and the unwelcome dudes are vaporized - this is no lie, that's what they do. Scary!!

@@craigroberts1670 Those are Japanese Honey Bees. Not WASPS as you put. But you are right about the vibration of their wings, raising the temperature to literally melt the hornet alive. I own a Lawn Care company... and got the crap stung out of me one day behind a local dog training company I mow. I mowed and trimmed the lawn as usual, then went back with the blower to blow away any grass clipping. I usually try to blow spiderwebs off from siding and any grass that might have stuck on the building when BLAM, I got hit in the side of the head right above my glasses. My up and down sweeping motion was the culprit. I inadvertently blew on the nest that I never even saw until I was actually blowing on it. They must have erected that nest in days because it wasn’t there the week before. I’ll say that when they get pissed, they hit hard and fast. It felt like getting hit with a pebble from my trimmer but burned like my head was on fire! I ran so fast I dropped my glasses in the lawn. I had to sneak up from a different direction to retrieve them and I could see the wasps sitting by the entrance hole looking like angry guard dogs ready to bite the postman... I ended up warning the property owner so none of the dogs would get stung. I think she sprayed it because the nest was empty the next time I went there. Even though the nest was abandoned, I was still gun shy around it every time I looked at it...

I've had luck using cans of spray on little honeycomb wasp nests. But I had a big paper-wasp nest once -- I called a professional pest killer for that one. After a few days, I was more concerned about residual poison, but the wasps were 100% gone. A few days later and I removed the nest. It was 15 years ago, but I recall it was a little disgusting.
@thshoop5 жыл бұрын
I've been bit snakes, dogs, cats, and a zebra. I've been stung bees, wasps and hornets. I've never had a reaction until last year. I was helping a friend get a hot tub he bought off of "let it go." I was about 0 feet from the nest but when they started lifting the other side to see how heavy it was, it must have upset the wasps. I felt a sting on my ankle, looked down and a paper wasp was repeatedly stinging me so I just brushed it off. I'd bet it wasn't 5 minutes later and I was sweating a lot. We loaded the hot tub, got in the truck to leave and I was feeling like total crap. I finally said, "That wasp sting did something to me." I really felt like I was about to pass out. They stopped and got some Benadryl for me. Within 3 minutes I was starting to feel better. I'm not scared of them now, but I am a bit more cautious around them. Hornet stings are no joke! Glad you didn't get attacked by the swarm.
@lesnyk2555 жыл бұрын
I've been stung by a dead one. I killed a bald-face while out doing yard work, and later that afternoon accidentally stepped on it while walking around barefoot with a beer to admire my work. I must have activated the stinger muscles because it got me right in the ball of my foot. Next day I couldn't put a shoe on that foot. Another time I was out hiking in a nearby wilderness park. It was deer fly season, and I'd been bothered by them ever since leaving the trailhead, so I was swinging my arms over my head, assuming my most recent companion was another deer fly. Instead something stung the first index finger knuckle on my left hand - it felt like someone had pressed a lit cigarette to it. In 10 minutes the hand was so swollen I couldn't make a fist. At this point I was 2 miles from the car, and while I've never had problems before, my brother is severely allergic - so I was really concerned about anaphylactic shock out there in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, any problems I had breathing could be chalked up to being out of shape and 20 pounds overweight. But my hand burned and stayed swollen for the rest of the day.
