My 6.0 Powerstoke Diesel Excursion may be awesome but when we're pulling out 8k pound travel trailer. She's excessively loud considering it's running on 35 inch mud tires with a straight pipe exhaust.
Today we're working on quieting her down with some Kilmat sound deadening material.
I used 3 cases of Kilmat sound deadening material to cover the 4 front doors, both rear barn doors and the entire floor of the truck.
13:05 to see the results of Kilmat Sound Deadening Material. Before and After

Looked into sound minimizing my 6.0 excursion and found most people saying that up the fire wall is the most necessary part of the process. Also double layering in that section makes a big difference. Also new door weatherstripping had a big effect as well.

Kinda right.. CLD tiles reduce vibration and do little for blocking and deadening sound. And any more than 25-35% coverage of CLD is a waste of money.

Just keep in mind that most road noise comes from 1) engine/engine bay and 2) tires/wheel arches. So if you are doing this type of project again focus on those two areas.

The best thing you can do is go with a quiet muffler and tires like nitto ridge grapplers. Finally if you are really motivated, insulate the firewall abs under the hood, and under the headliner. The way ford makes their SUV’s quieter today is a combination better motor, body mounts… better aerodynamics, sound reduction glass, and the judicious use of sound reducing materials. The difference in noise from a 2008 F-150 king ranch to a 2009 king ranch is substantial! The difference between the 2014 f-150 and the 2015 f-150 is monumental. And again the difference between a 2020 f-150 and the 2021 is evolutionary, an improvement but minor. If someone would make an aftermarket stereo for older vehicles that incorporated noise canceling technologies…. We could see an huge improvement in older vehicles. I don’t know if this will happen. But if someone develops this kind of tech, it will most certainly sell well.

I actually read somewhere that most of the noise on our trucks comes through the roof surprisingly enough. The headliner would be awful to remove but it might be worth it. Check your door seals, they collapse and let a LOT of noise in. There’s a “fix” for that using surgical tubing that dropped the sound in my Ex by 3db.

Came to say this...on a big SUV like an Excursion, that's a whole lot metal to be vibrating.
@nickarnold6964

I have an 7.3 liter diesel Excursion and I fixed all my weatherstripping on all 4 doors. I ran surgical tubing through the old weatherstripping and it made a huge improvement. Now the doors shut properly and SEAL properly. When the door seals correctly, road noise disappears. There's no more rattles coming from the doors either. Buy an electrician's fishing tape, surgical tubing and silicone lubricant to pull the surgical tubing through the weatherstripping. There's a video on youtube of a Ford F250 doing this project. Super easy with the right tools and approach. Makes a big improvement and doesn't cost much.

Me being from the twin cities, its a never ending battle with the rust so ive been coating it every fall with fluid film to try and save it. I ended up replacing all 4 calipers after one seized up on me. ford calipers of those years are notorious for sticking. Anyways, keep up the awesome vids!

Using A weighting for road noise, road noise frequencies are in 800 to 1200Hz. Killmat would stop some vibration, but not very effective at blocking low frequencies under 500Hz, which are generated by your diesel engine.

I was surprised he was not rolling out the Noico on the door panels but then saw him rolling away on the flooring. Fun job for a kid. hello, so faar i see something wrong with your work.. The product you use is not a isolator, its a vibration dampener, its made to remove vibration noice from panels, its preventing some noice but if you wanna remove more noice, youll need to add isolation/noice blocking on the doors and onto the dempening material, i would put the time on adding it to the firewall, im going to install 2mm vibromat and a 35mm isolator piece on the firewall to stop noice from the engine and the front of the car :)
@noncog1

The way it works - it changes the resonance frequency of panels. Like your panels become more Ridgid, and for the engine you need to take out the dash...or do something about firewall inside engine compartment. Sounds that get inside the car will reflect from this hard material, and interior clothing will absorb some frequencies.

Start with the hood. Engine noise is the loudest part of these trucks, unfortunately unless your are willing to remove entire dash you are going to get sound penetration. The windshield can not really be altered either. The turbo, up pipes, and downpipe are at the back of the motor essentially against the firewall and below the windshield. The hood is an easy job, and would be a good first step

Needs some closed cell foam, ditch the tires, and make sure your exhaust doesn’t have drone. Drone is caused by exhaust pulses and the engineered length of your exhaust. Hence you can install a U pipe downstream thus effectively lengthening the exhaust. Drone happens in all exhaust. You just want to make it happen in the higher rpm range where you are rarely ever at for any amount of time. Takes some work but worth the effort 👍🏻 good video

SHLM UHaB (peace & love). Oh Tom, I so enjoy you and your wife. You both are so precious and real. Thank y'all for just being y'all. I heard from previous videos on wife's station, that y'all are considering Foster Care. That is precious. Now I wanted to say this. I encourage you dearly, to read the TURaH to your family. The Word is not intended to be mostly the New Testament, even though the religion of Christianity does that. I am a Hebrew, but not of the Hebrew Israelite group. They are prejudiced in the foundation, making claims of people based on their skin color. The soul is the dividing line, not the color of our skin. Even a child knows this, but many attached themselves to deception. Amen. So in Genesis, it says, PHRU URBU (be fruitful & multiply). (I am telling you, because you commented once that you try to read all comments.) Amen. So in the ancient days, Leah/LAaH and Rachel/RHhL increased their home (built up their home) by another's womb. That is what modern-day adoption is. Do not reject your own seed, while believing that taking another's child is somehow better/. The Creator said through the Word: PHRU URBU, but man-made society made it socially pleasing that we are better people if we do adoption. We can help the foster child without bringing that child in our home. We can make items and give to orphanages (now called something else, can't remember, but of the Foster Care system.) We can also spend time at orphanages. There is so much we can do. But do not reject ZRGhK (your seed). In all matters, know Yah is with us and He is a Righteous Judge. His Son is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life ( that is for anyone not yet saved, reading this). He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6). He is the Atoning offering for mankind for the remission of sin (1 John 2:1-2).

HuuuuuH ??? lol Boy if I only had a fraction of the car knowledge you have I would be able to buy myself a car with confidence but I'm overwhelmed because I feel I'm going to get ripped off.

Avoid dealerships and do a lot of research on what you are going to look at, what it's valued at and what comparable ones are listed for. That's most of the work. The internet and KZbin reviews are incredibly valuable today. Hope that helps 😁
