Does the Alfa 156 GTA have the best v6 ever made?

I use to sell these in my youth. I owned a R reg 156 2.0 TS Sport pack 1 . You’re spot on about the Ferrari style interior. Alfa got it so right but so under appreciated. I think the Giulia QV has sparked interest in fast Alfa saloons again . I’d love a 155 Q4 along side one of these .

Great buy. The V6 Busso is a jewel, for sure one of the best V6 ever made. I have bought a 147 GTA one year ago (many years ago I was the owner of a 156 2.5 V6), and I love it. It's not a perfect car, but it has a soul, and the driving experience is delightful.

My '02 GTA is my daily driver and third V6 156. Bought it cheap due to high mileage (220,000km) two years ago, and its been brilliant. It's now done almost 265,000km and it hasn't missed a beat doing 300km a week in peak hour, or on regular country runs. I've always thought the pre-facelift 156 is the most stylish sedan of the last 30 years, and its the best handling FWD car I've ever driven. And the GTA is a whole class above the rest.

Great video fellas. Love the enthusiasm for this car. Had mine for 9 years and half of that was on the standard diff which was an experience. The car now has all the mods apart from the exhaust and manifolds and is on just shy of 75k (55k on purchase). I do daily it kind of but also have another modern classic. I use the GTA 3 or 4 times a week. Glad to see people like you giving this awesome car the recognition, appreciation and enthusiasm it deserves. I need to find an excuse to come and see you as my local Alfa specialist closed.

Love the alfa You don't see that many around these days at all I have a 147 jtd Collezione and I love it The only thing that I can say bad about it is the bonnet lacquer is breaking down and needs to be re-done Would love to see more of this car and more Alfa content

Incredible interiors on the Alfas. The twin spark is a great engine too! Also in the 156. The driving experience is unlike any car around the price. Maintenance is required for any kind of reliability. Not many owners care ha.

Ooh being from North Bedfordshire, I think I've seen half these cars. I absolutely loved my 156 2.0ts. I loved how I could spin the wheels in 2nd into 3rd, in the dry, the torque was awesome from the TS.

Service history is key. Some years ago, I bought a dirt cheap, one owner 156 2,5 V6. Every service was made and stamped by the same Ferrari dealer. 6 speed manual, red leather, wooden steering wheel and on top that awsome sound. It took some time to get the 10W60 warm, but then..... I sold it five years ago, but my youngest daughter still raves about her beloved Alfa Romeo today ( me too )

SUCH A REFESHING CHANNEL LOVE THE DOWN TO EARTH HONEST CHAT ,,,,,,,how nice and genuine is ur alfa there wont be many as cherished as ur car and a real joy to have a proper car that has the ownership;history backed up with receipts i think the colour helps a nice change from roso i had a silver 2.5 v6 quite a forgettable car [apart from lending it out without enough oil in it ;and then absolutely no mechanically sympathy lead to alucky really cheap 25k replacement ] anyway it kinda emphasises how painful some cars turn out .i do remember a another silver alfa fondly a lhd 1979 alfetta 1.8 the 4 quad round headlights one useing it on the autobahn in the mid eightys the twincam was very distinctly raspy most older italian cars were and haveing a inline setup is so much better just like a audi 80 gte was so more togeather than a transverse golf gti especially in the wet anyway what a lot ove car that was for 3k DM it took the timed record off a dark green met 525i bmw on the past midnight dashes back from ferry port to just inside the border goodluck with the channel

The 156 GTA, I tested one of these, a sport wagon. I took it out for a drive and it was fantastic, £5000 it was going for. I blasted it around the country lanes, it was a hoot. Then I checked the mpg and got 15.8! That was just a bit rich for me. The 147 gta is nowhere near as good unless you get certain mods done, lsd is a must but I didn't like it. I had a 156 2.4 diesel sport wagon and drove it 45000 miles in 2 years,fabulous car to drive. I ended up with a 156 saloon, 2 litre JTS, a very good car and I drove it every week from Portsmouth to London and back to jam with some musician mates. The engine is a peach, smooth as you like, I loved driving it but now retired and need a cheaper motor I gave the JTS to my daughter. I had a 145 cloverleaf too, that battered GTIs of the day, a truly under appreciates car. That 2 litre TS engine was great, it could take a real spanking and I always got out of it smiling.

it's so much better than the later 159 V6 q4 AWD model which was a lot heavier than the q2 156, and the 156 dominated the touring car championship world wide. and that's when the touring car championship was full of the best manufacturers from Audi BMW and everything from the time period that was fast

I have 5 of the 156 GTA Sedan. I had my Best time in my live with my red one with the bigger brakes, 18" weehls, Xenon and the beautiful Radio without navigation.

I've bought a Giulia Quadrifoglio last year and kept my 156 GTA. It's lovely to swap between them. The Q obviously a much better car objectively, but it can't match the Busso for sound, and also older cars feel lighter and nimbler than modern cars ever could.

I nearly bought one of these cars until I looked at the mpg on the dash, 15.8 it showed. I didn't buy it, £5000 was the asking price, I should have got it. However I later bought a 156 2litre JTS for £999 which has the best engine ever, it didn't suffer the understeer as bad as the GTA did, the engine sits over the front wheels. The 2 litre JTS did good mpg and was as smooth as silk, a fabulous car to drive. I owned a 2.4 jtd sportwagon too, I did 45000 miles in 2 years in that car, someone rear ended it and wrote it off. I also owned a 145 cloverleaf, a GTI basher, I paid £700 for it, worth a whole lot more nowadays.

I had a 147 GTA in South Africa and other than my Opel Kadett 200TS, it was the most unruly and bonkers car that i`ve ever owned...all it did when I wasn`t driving it was sit in the garage and plot how next to try and kill me...endlessly entertaining to drive!

I bought a new 156 2.0 JTS when they were first released. Had quite a few issues in my first year of ownership and sold it for that reason . Nevertheless when it wasn’t in the garage I loved that car . The GTA was the ultimate 156 and that engine is a masterpiece but Alfa really missed a trick by keeping it front wheel drive .

I have been on the hunt for a Fiat Coupe for a while. One thing that I find irritating is when sellers advertise a car and mention the cambelt has been changed within a fairly low amount of miles, only to find out on further enquiry that although the mileage was low, the time elapsed meant it was well over due. Two recent examples. An L.E. with a 7.5 year old cambelt and a 20VT 6 with a 13 year old cambelt. Neither seller mentioned that on their advert, only the mileage.

for the era and n/a induction it definitely was a bit special but it's an old design that went through decades of development from the 2litre V6 turbo to the 3.2 GTA and with a few upgrades to bring it up to date it's still a great car to drive, much better than the 147 GTA, I had an ati procharger install on mine and the lsd, put the power down without any fuss

Underrated GTA - people always talk about the 147 but this one, as you say, probably handles better and defo lower profile than 147. Buy one now before the prices go silly.

I would say the Busso V6 in all its various guises is the best. Lets not forget the Dino V6 by Ferrari found in the 206 & 246 Dino, Fiat Dino and the Stratos❤

Interestingly the fiat 130 coupe had a 3.2 v6 that shared multiple components with the Dino v6 aswell so they engine really did get around and it’s sounded superb

Don't forget the V6 GT, it has the same 3.2 Busso but slightly less power (5hp less). Pretty much a slightly detuned GTA but less money.

I have GT 3.2 V6 Busso and it's hard to believe it has only 240hp. Feels alot more and totally enough for that car. Some say those GT:s 3.2 Bussos are same as GTA and have same horsepower but Im not sure.. Is it just marketing thing that they have 240hp on paper?
