Nice video. IMHO the key concept here is the "conscious/unconscious desire" from McKee's book. Write a plot so that the characters can SHOW their conscious desires at first, then SHOW their unconscious desires later. Never try to TELL these desires to the audience by words or captions, SHOW them. This subdivision of "desire" or "motivation" of a character, IMHO, is enough for most screenwriting.

Very insightful, characters have goals (wants) yet the motivations won’t be completely clear. you can rationalize why people are doing what they do, but it should also be complicated by other facets
