The campfire method definitely isn't true. I can't tell you how many times I saw Octavian during my last hunt. I got so sick of seeing him I started hitting him with my net. 😮‍💨

I think new horizons has the most myths spread about it, there were definitely a lot of rumors from older games, but new horizons has a way bigger player base, at least initially. I have no idea why people thought the campfire method would actually work, I bet it began as a fun thing for steamers to do lol

The "campfire method" is just something people came up with to keep entertained while villager hunting. I doubt Nintendo wanted people to "hunt for villagers" in a video game about cute animals that can talk.

Yeah. They just want you to like ugly villagers, don’t purposely kick Hippeux or… RODNEY… ,they just want you to get 3/4 villagers from it. Villager hunting, I mean.

@@Stevieb1112 I wonder why we always end up with the lowest liked villagers per species when hunting... It's never Lolly or Raymond it would be the lesser liked cats, and not even cats, other species. I barely even get cats, but i notice we get a lot of hippos, kangaroos, ostriches, and cows, and out of them it's always the worst of the bunch, not even the passable or somewhat cute. I think this game is rigged, Nintendo made it that we mostly get the iks so it forces us to buy amiibos cards.

It's funny seeing all the math saying how hard it is to find specific cats :P I got the crazy idea to try for an all cat island and finally succeded a couple months ago. I never found Lolly and regret not inviting her from the campsite (I had someone moving out the same day and I thought I read somewhere that an invited villager from a campsite on moving day will disappear into the void). And oddly I found Raymond in less than 30 tickets when it wasn't directly on my mind I was looking for him. I suppose the best way to find the villager you want is to forget for 20 minutes and they'll show up when you least expect it.

I did an all cat island too. Most of them I got with amiibo, although I had to keep Cally because I had her in new leaf

One time i pop some baloons and got a dress same that rosie wear and when i decide to villager hunting same day i found her in just a few maybe 3 ticket only. I think a few baloons items to pop that day is a sign a villagers that related to the items (like house item/clothes) would spawn in some island in that day too? Idk it happens to me all the time , the sign is so clear to me like i got a lily music record recipe in a bottle and then the teapot elephant(forgot the name) its on my villager hunt just like 5 ticket.. and her house has that same lily music thing.

I did the math on the total book mile tickets used, because I was curious how many miles you’ve spent. The result was 37,524,000. 37 MILLION NOOK MILES.

What I did was I made the dodo behind desk happy, then I got rare islands and I made the island look like a villager area they like, and well hunting ended and they came to my camp, I got who I wanted fast

I dont understand why people say the octopuses are the rarest species in Animal Crossing because there are only four, when they are actually the _easiest_ to find for the very same reason.

the one thing i think the campfire method could maybe be doing is resetting the cache. Like if youre in a situation when you're getting repeats super close together bc of glitching. That's just conjecture on my part though.

If people are still sceptical bout the campfire method , I have a good way to test! At the beginning of the game, when u hunt for the first three villagers, they have to be a peppy, normal or lazy. If you have 2/3 personalities, only the third will show up. If you have the amount of nook miles tickets for EACH VILLAGER in that personality, and you use the campfire method, you will get a duplicate, which proves that it is not true!

Lolly and Tangy are the ONLY cats that ever appear on my hunts, and my hunts tend to offer 2 specific personality types, which is frustrating. Also, I felt early-on that the campfire ideology was a hoax, making me feel played ;-)

On my first island when villager hunting, for some reason i'd get Naomi a lot o.0 This game really wanted me to have Naomi..... Now on my new island i've been allowing the game to autofill and i noticed i keep getting the same species as the ones who have been on my island in the past, a lot of monkeys, goats, horses, and ostriches. And i had Chops autofill on my island at least 2 times, maybe 3 if i'm forgetting. I do have dreamies but i allow the autofills as i build, when i need a specific villager i have planned to live in a certain location that's when i'll go out of my way to seek them out. I have half of my dreamies already even though i wasn't searching for them and non of them were autofills, because sometimes my game acts weird where it goes multiple days with no one automatically moving to my island, so at some point on those days i just go to a mystery island to force it along. But still not to look for anyone specific, i accept any of the animals within the same species as the dreamies i have on my list, that way when i am searching for them my chances are greater if i have a few animals within their species already on my island. The rest of the dreamies i have were from the campsite and others i happened to get lucky with as one of my first few tickets on the mystery islands. I like allowing the autofills this time around, it feels more casual, and i get to temporarily have villagers i wouldn't otherwise invite to live on my island. I started it because i missed the random moving in villagers of the OG games, i missed having new unpredictable neighbors.

heres proof that i have outraging luck these days: so, fun fact i restarted my acnh island cuz my villagers and island werent looking too good, sure i couldve done smth else, but as lazy as i am, i restarted from scratch. Blah Blah, do this do that AND BOOM on my first nook miles ticket, i got zucker, one of my dreamies. And on the second ticket BOOM i got marina, as shocking as it is, it is true ;--;

Villager hunts would be less time consuming if there was a way to make villagers not appear again. Put the fire out on the villagers you are certain you would not want to have. Such a shame it doesn't work.
