Yesterday's stream attempts at solving the problem involved placing a lot of low-rent housing all over the place, including in undesirable areas (to you know.. focus the demand to those who just needed to not be homeless) and the homeless count was still slowly rising. There would still be new, rich people moving into the buildings and the homeless would still be comfortably homeless. We saw one person choose to leave. I wonder if it's a case of these attempts to change status are still happening *way* too slowly. perhaps it could be fixed with a new policy of "priotise housing the homeless" which would just.. check the homeless list first when populating a new lot.

@@Kirk-LS but it's not really. It only recently had the simulation update to somewhat fix the obviously non existent simulation mechanics. This game as whole is entirely a "city painter". Far from a thorough simulation.
@thephantomchannel53682 ай бұрын
The idea of Cities Skylines being a simulation is a farce. This applies to both version 1 and the sequel. I say this because of an interview given by the CEO of Colossal Order where she tells a story about how she was approached by a city planning group that asked if they could use the game as a training tool and after they looked into it found that the simulation was a facade they asked her if her team could program an actual simulation into the game and without hesitation she said no and laughed when she answered the question. The planning team still used the game but only as a generic tool for road layouts. I went down the rabbit hole looking up old interviews and lectures given by the CEO, she is woefully inadequate for the position that she was given and still holds. The game is a glorified city painter disguised and advertised as a "simulation".

If you already had full residential demand at the start of the hour long test, which seems to be the case at 2:17, number of homeless people should not go down by much, since there were minimal existing empty homes to move into and reduced number of citizens moving out, unless you zoned a bunch of new residential.

Maybe not directly showing the total homeless population count is intentional because that's a realistic challenge. Cities can only estimate the total number of homeless people in their city, but we don't actually have a way of knowing for sure. Our most direct means of counting homeless population is the annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count mandated federally by HUD, which, in addition to receiving counts from homeless service providers, such as shelters and hospitals, involves one night of volunteers going out and walking their streets, sidewalks, parks, and alleyways looking for and counting unhoused persons in public. Thus, visual signs of unhoused people in parks and sidewalks really are our only way to know that homelessness exists in our city, and to what degree. All that said, it would be interesting to see a true "homelessness patch" that adds mechanics like shelters, charity from religious institution, rapid re-housing / transitional housing, and food banks. It would also be interesting to impact of homelessness on more than visual appearance on parks, but also on public transit usage, emergency room visits, and police calls.

I did look at my parks, and I only saw two tents in total. Maybe there were more before.. but, not enough for me to notice I guess. I remember some KZbinrs saying to use the demand indicator only as a guide. But, when I began to ignore the demands, my unemployment began to play up. So, I decided to do as the demand indicator told me to do. Just in different settlements/towns. It not only helped, but having multiple population centres help with the traffic.

Some of them are homeless, so it might have resulted from me demolishing the building before rebuilding. But it's driving me nuts and I'm pretty sure it's tanking my performance. Also, this props feature seems incredibly half-assed. What's the point of the vast majority of props and decals if they cannot be put on existing structures. And like you said, having parking spots, benches etc count as the same interactable props would add practical value to them.

After approx 30 min there was a mass exodus of homeless via the no-fee bus to the edge of map. That busline was hardly used before, so it's a plus. It seems to me that homeless people ONLY move into low cost housing, even if they are wealthy - and that would be a problem.

nah but tbh, i think its pretty cool in the thumbnail that the graphics are good enough, to how the tent looks like IRL

I think it's pretty funny that you talked about the "homelessness bug" in such a way that I was thinking "yeah, that's how people get to become homeless"

It seems CO really does expect anyone getting this detailed to install mods. If that's the case they should have a list of recommended mods or publish play-sets for specific types of players. With mods integrated into the game it would be easy to do this.

That's a real bummer. I was hoping that the addition of props menu meant the game was becoming less dependent on mods.

It is a bit baffling to me that they added a homelessness feature in the game but there's very little you can do to solve it. Homeless shelters and policies to help those in need sound like a pretty good idea honestly, I hope it's something they take into consideration in the near future.

I really hope CO change their mind with collisions and anarchy and allows a bit of flexibility. Right now I'm a bit confused if I like the detailing patch or not. Homeless patch is ok.

"it can't be just content creators [speaking up]" - oh it never was only content creators, we always spoke up.. hence some of us went a little cookoo when only content creators been invited for that feedback thing a while ago. We kinda felt like "content creator's feedback must be a lot more important than our feedback".. still speaking up: Gib animations, pls.

Cities Skylines 2 still has a very long way to go to make the Vanilla game great. Modding is still the best way to play this game.

It's a bummer that there are still so many issues. I love watching you stream the game but I feel like I won't have fun on my own with all the issues you face. I hope to hear from you one day that unmodded CS2 is worth playing.

How can I add the money and population change tooltip to the UI? Please I've been asking for several videos
@mateuszkunda94002 ай бұрын
At the moment I'm just waiting until (if?) assets can finally be created and some new mods perhaps added to the game. Then, with full variety of custom assets and mods improving general experience, I'll be able to consider buying Cities Skylines 2. For now, I'm staying with CS1.

Ooh, thanks for the update. I'm curious how gameplay will be after this. I'm sure it's a skill issue to some degree, but I haven't been able to build a successful city ever since economy 2.0 came out. It feels like no matter how much I experiment, my cities can't reach consistent profitability.

I'll just add a bit of appreciation for them pushing out this patch pretty quick after the summer holidays. The devs are probably less then a month back at work and seem to have really prioritized getting these highly demanded fixes out asap, even though it's not as comprehensive of a patch as the previous ones. I, for one, highly appreciate the balance CO strikes between continuously servicing their product for the fans and letting their employees have holidays and a life in general (not that I can judge that from afar, but it seems a refreshing break from all the horror stories we've heard from the industry recently)

I like your suggestion of homeless shelters, or homeless city policies. The game devs should adapt to this and add assets that can help with homelessness.

Still very interested in this game. Still watch Let's Plays of it (Thx City Planner) still holding off buying it.

Technically a lot of north American cities don't really do enough for homeless people, but they will absolutely move them out. There is exceptions to the rule but it's just one of those things that north American cities do that I often find frustrating. In Europe I hear it's vastly different.

loaded a prepatch save of 400k pop and only having 110 homeless, let it run untouched for 9 hours while at work and came home to 350k pop with 62k homeless, tons of empty household spots and 30k open jobs and no residential demand. reloaded the save i started with and actually sat and watched it at 3x speed and immediately the homeless number just kept growing and growing. for me post patch it was if it was actively creating homelessness vs solving it as it arose.

it is really weird ,cause I heard many Including myself (seeing it before my eyes unemployment, crimes dropping.. population growing..) that this patch is working for homeless bug. maybe you are missing some things or have to lower some things..
@davidyakubovich23882 ай бұрын
@@YumiMirah I have open jobs, housing, and free transportation out of the city. Homeless people should look to resolve their issues based on those factors according to the patch, after 9 hours of letting the game run they just accumulated instead. I would expect a number of homeless in the low thousands and would call that a success with the patch but it balloon over 60k which in no way can be intended.

I really hope they don't remove the homeless feature. They need to figure it out. Also, stop letting citizens cross the street when I ban a crosswalk. Infuriating

I really do enjoy the game. Mostly because of the mods. If not for them I probably wouldn't be able to play the game. This patch though, it is just more of what seems to be the same. They act like they are trying to make things good but they only go part way on EVERYTHING. Some modder has to finish every bit of the developers work.

I was pretty vocal on your discord about how bad I think this patch is. I'm actually really happy to see that you have basically the same complaints. All the positivity surrounding this patch is baffling to me. The fix for homelessness is a weird adjustment to how the entire system works instead of simply fixing the bug. It doesn't sound like it makes any sense at all. They didn't really overhaul it, either- it's a complete half-measure. If they want to overhaul this system, fine! It's a bad system! The welfare office isn't even tied to it, makes no sense! But overhaul it. Don't half-ass a half-measure when we've been waiting TWO MONTHS for this to be fixed. The decorator patch itself is, I think, completely insulting. It is content we ALREADY HAVE, that almost every player ALREADY USES, except they did it worse. It has no search bar, it limits the amount of available assets (and by the hundreds, there aer more signs in the game than there are props in the deco patch), and it forces the assets to have the stupid circle around them like trees. It is objectively worse than BOTH existing methods of using props (dev mode and find it). It was a waste of development time. It shouldnt have even been a blip on their radar at this point with how broken and unfinished the entire rest of the game is. They give us nothing for two months and come back with a worse version of content we already had, it makes no sense, and I'm so mad the wait for this fix didn't mean they were actually doing something meaningful. What is the point of making props vanilla if you still require mods to use them with any fidelity?

Because they can.
