His point is still valid considering that Christ raised up disciples to spread His word. Its also validated in the Bible where it calls Christians the body of Christ. And this isn't to make us proud or make us entitled far from it in fact it is to humble us in reminding us that we are simply tools in the hands of the Almighty.

@@TheGingerKing-1 Christianity is the people on earth not Jesus or God, they are the object of the religion not the religion itself. You were called to spread the word, not appeal to those who already follow him. You can’t be all serious and impersonal, too afraid to ask questions, a lot of Christians like you are. Bishop Mari Emmanuel says the same thing, it’s not about keeping God at arms length because he’s mighty too good to relate with you. If you can’t ask questions and really relate/understand the Bible you don’t know Jesus Intimately.

@@TheGingerKing-1what you said sounds good but it has literally nothing to do with what I said, it’s just the first rule. Kind of a selfish view in my opinion. "As a Christian the only thing that matters to me is my own salvation" Where as in the great commission of Christ Jesus we are ALL called to be disciples. Discipleship is the most important gift to the church. It shows up in many ways.

@@Minnesota_Central That’s not what I’m saying. People with “gifts” will try to make themselves seem better than others which is not what Christ wants. People also worry to much about others yet ignore their own paths. The most important gift is salvation because the only way to be saved is a relationship with Christ. So if you see what I’m saying. Once my mother told us that she was given the gift to speak in tongues. My brother asked her to show him, because he was curious to see what it was like. My mother then replied, "No. I don't want to misuse it." She passed away from cancer 6 years ago. I believe my mother to have been an very honest and convicted woman. She knew that (by showing the gift of of tongues), the risk of pride might sew its seeds in her heart. She was given that gift to pray for and minister to the persecuted church, not to show off her closeness to our loving savior. She was given that gift to praise our Lord and serve him, not to be a quick proof of His existence. I know my mother was very honest, therefore that claim was not a lie. I know she had a very rational mind, therefore that claim was not delusion. I know my mother sought only to love and serve The Father, Son and Holy Spirit through her earthly journey, therefore her faith was rewarded.

@@loogoo8772 There are 4 types of tongues described in the Bible. If you believe tongues was JUST speaking a different language the Bible contradicts itself (which it does not do). This is why tongues can appear as speaking another language, and at other times it can be described as unknown utterances that nobody understands without a gift of interpretation. I doubt I will have persuaded you, but calling someone’s dead mom a liar is pretty sick, and if you think I’m wrong, go search all the instances of tongues in the Bible. They can’t be the same thing. Why, when the 120 brothers who were gathered in a house were praying in the tongues they didn't say oh no wait guys pray in your head so that we don't have pride? No instead they were praying so loud that it brought attention to so many foreigners in that land. And when you pray in tongues outloud, you become more powerful because God teaches you how to become a warrior in the spirit. I'm not saying you mother is lying but I don't think it was right that she didn't pray aloud or show ur brother because it won't sew seeds of pride. I too used to ask my mother before I received the gift of tongues to pray aloud and when we should, I would feel peace and I can feel the presence of God. So that's why I tell you, don't stop the holy spirit. God gave you this gift for a reason, God bless you

He gave me something I don’t understand, I just know things and He keeps me safe. I shouldn’t be alive, multiple serious car crashes that I walked away from including two rollovers one with no seat belt on the highway and head on collision with a tree at 70mph, in college I was face to face with one of the most prolific pimps in North Highlands Sacramento and he never tried to touch me but had multiple people brutally assault my roommate on the one night I wasn’t home, I have tried to cancel my life subscription more than once and I have only broken a couple bones and two concussions from it all. And when I say I know things I mean multiple incidents of me getting a sudden feeling about something and then just knowing things I can’t explain knowing. For example, I felt that something was going to happen to my roommate and before I left I told her that she shouldn’t drink alcohol or hang out with that guy or his friends (but at the time he was not doing anything threatening, I just felt something)… I will know someone for a while and then suddenly feel something about them is wrong and then find out that when I felt it is before they do something awful. It’s not always clear, but sometimes it’s very specific. I saw your gift is faith and hoped you would understand.

I have spoken in tounges once and I was and am still INCREDIBLY grateful for it as I have always wanted to and i have the exact standing as Him, tongues is a gift, you cant force it and not everyone will have it, even when I felt Closest to God, i never spoke in tongues, i started backsliding and there was a church service i went to and they asked about tongues and so i went up with a few others, they started praying with me and my tongue started shaking as well as my whole body, i then started to exhale and let my tongue go, do what it wanted and i started speaking in tongues, I cant remember what i said and i dont know what i said, I barely even heard myself and for the first time in my life, my mind was calm and quiet not a single thought until near the end, i even tried to stop talking and i just couldnt stop no matter how much i tried, that is purely a gift given by the Holy Spirit, if you never got it and forced it then you are sinning

This was not the "gift of tongues" my guy, sou were in a sect and your brain made you think it was "tongues". It's clearly stated in the Bible that "tongues" is a real known language, unknown previously to the speaker, and the gift was to share and spread the news about Jesus to unbelieving Jews and other people. Only the apostles had that gift. The gift is no longer needed. If somebody experiences this gift it's a miracle, but this kinda stuff doesn't happen and if it does, praise God.

@@maxo2909 Yikes... you've been lied to about it. It takes a lot of faith and also takes down your pride when receiving the gift of tongues. Because according to the Bible, people thought they were drunk when they spoke it. You just feel and look silly. It takes child like faith and trust to receive a gift like that. If you're prideful then it'll be harder. The gift of tongues is still active today. My Aunt received it while praising God at a church that don't really believe in that stuff. People thought she was crazy too lol. She was so loud haha. My Mom thought she was crazy too because she was right next to her. But yeah gift of tongues is real. And yes it sounds like gibberish to people according to the Bible, but it can also have an ability to speak other people's language as well. Also Paul encourages that if you ask for this gift to ask for the interpretation gift as well so you can relay the message to people. Read book of Acts and 1 Corinthians 14.

No language will be a barrier to the word of God. If any of you actually had the "gift of tongues" it wouldnt sound like gibberish. But you arent spreading Gods message so it isnt being translated. How I know you arent spreading his message? Because you guys dont even know what you are saying. What comes out of the mouth defiles a man and we will be accountable for every idle word. I don't know how big of a seed I plant, but if i can show someone how much they mean to a nobody like me, its only the smallest fraction compared to how much God loves them.

Always do it in the name of Jesus, as a service to God. It doesn't mean you have to do it for a church. Do it every day, in every way you can, but always do it to glorify your Father in heaven ❤ I would recommend reading some Mother Teresa books. I'm not Catholic but her perspective of sacrifice and helping others was a beautiful service to the Lord. She was asked why she helped the dying ppl on the streets of Calcutta and her answer was that when she looks at them, she sees Jesus. That's how we should aim to see and love others, as though Christ Himself is right in front of us.

Prescriptive VS Descriptive Narration of events ≠ Declaration of Doctrines. In 1st Corinthians Paul lays out the whole teaching about gifts of the Spirit. Not all have tongues, same way not all have prophecy. No one is meant to speak in unknown tongues, UNLESS, there's people present that understand the language you are speaking (Like Acts 2), or a person who can interpret the tongues to others who listen (1 corinthians 14:26-28). Anything not done in orderly conduct doesn't come from God (1 cor 14:40-) Neither did the church father's taught that all had the gift of tongues, if you want to read a scholarly article that gathered the quotes from the early father's, tell me. You can actually find it in Google easily.

@neighborlyconcrete6865

KZbin search David Pawson he's got good material on this. My understanding is that when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you have an overflow from inside springing forth praise to God. Might be in a different language than yours, or could be prophecy or just praise in your own tongue. But you'll know for sure that it came from this welling up. Not of yourself but inside yourself, It can't be mistaken for anything but what it is. Much like when you're afraid you cry out involuntarily or when a child sees their parents they cry out Daddy! You can restrain yourself if you want, the Holy Spirit won't take over you and make you speak, but if you ride the wave that builds up inside of you, you'll cry out in some fashion. So pray to God and ask if there's anything in your life that displeases him that you need to cut out. Identify whatever that sin is, cut it out, and replace it with whatever is pleasing to the Lord. Once you've done that, you have produced fruit of repentance. Go on and demonstrate that you truly believe by faith, but through action. Again, you can pray and ask the Lord how he wants you to do this. I found a really simple way Is to direct your money towards the kingdom in some way. Widows and orphans are a pretty easy opinion. Generally, you would be baptized in water after that, but the house of Cornelius didn't have to before receiving the spirit baptism. I don't think God has to follow a pattern that we see in the Bible but it's helpful to follow it through so at that point I would. Cornelius and his household got water baptized there after anyway. It seems that if you have an individual who has received the spirit baptism and therefore genuinely believes that you will also receive the gift if you go on asking and they lay hands on you to intercede for you, that helps. Jesus is the one that baptizes in Holy Spirit, but intercessory prayer helps. You have to believe it'll actually happen also. It can be frustrating because sometimes you have to go on asking as though it's something you want badly. It doesn't have to take time but it can.. did for me. It's the heavenly vision Paul talks about in Acts 2:19-20 this "4 step initiation" sometimes called the Peter package found in Acts 2:38-39 and also repeated in Hebrews 6:1-2 Charismatics think you can just turn this gift off and on whenever you want after the initial occurrence but I find that not to be true. unless the holy Spirit moves your tongue for you it's not Him speaking through you. You'll have to utter or speak though for it to work, it's a collaborative effort. For me my tongue did stand up on it own, after I began feeling the overflow welling up inside while someone laid hands on me and ask for me to receive, with a hot fire like sensation on the end of my tongue and it started moving around on its own like notes coming up on a screen like guitar hero (hard to explain lol). Didn't have to play the note but I could and once I began it flowed. It's a perfect prayer to God asking for exactly the right thing because we not knowing how to pray get our mind taken out of the equation. The gifts becomes accessible after the initial baptism, I think. I've not found I have any of the gifts after the initial tongue speaking and haven't been able to repeat it. I take the time to share all of this with you because it hits close to home and is where I'm at in my faith walk. Don't forget to seek maturity and the fruit of the spirit, without which the gifts are meaningless anyway. Good luck

They don't. What is described in Act is a miracle of hearing, not of speaking. "Tongues" just means languages and many modern churches have tried to make something else of it. If I say someone has the gift of languages you would understand that completely differently to churches that treat "speaking in tongues" as some kind of Spiritual pre-requisite. EDIT: Actually, it likely WAS a miracle of speaking based on the account, but it was still speaking in the native languages of the foreign visitors - not what is presented in the modern context at all.

Also, your question is based on a false premise, you ask "why?" but present "everyone who is filled with the Holy Ghost in the book of acts speak[s] in tongues" when that is not actually true. Luke, who wrote both the Gospel of Luke as well as the Acts of the Apostles, uses the term NINE times and in only one of those relates to "tongues", in Acts chapter 2, and it is clear there that he is referencing speaking in human languages foreign to the speaker, because the hearers exclaim about hearing these people speak in the hearers' own native languages.

But after ‘receiving’ tongues, they started going to a Pentecostal church, where I grew up. I remember feeling pressured to speak gibberish during a service where they invited all the congregation that wanted to speak in tongues to the front. Since that experience, I used to softly be a cessationist, but wouldn’t really discredit my parent’s experience. But in recent years I started going to a nondenominational church by myself, that spoke the same truth that Cliffe did. This fella is the best. Legendary. A story about speaking in Tongues: by Dad was a Pastor/Preacher and he was preaching at a church and at one point they were praying he started speaking in another tongue in front of everyone which was a little odd in the way it happened. After the service a a woman come up and asked how he knew the Native American Tribal language that she spoke. He said he didn’t. And she told him what he said. He was amazed.

If it's Gods will but that's not biblical. 1 Corinthians 12:29-31 ”Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not! So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.“

Yeah, I reside with cliffe here. My mom can speak very well in tounges and does all the time, and looking up to her I remember I was 11 and tried so hard to do it (I was sinning less, reading my Bible almost 24/4, etc) and after 2 weeks I was able to do it! It’s a weird feeling, it’s like saying things but not knowing what you’re saying, but knowing their meaning? I was so happy I could do it, I still can’t do it very well but I can do it 😂.

The speaking in tongues you are referring to is complete BS. actually look into the meaning of the words written in the Bible and you will understand it means LANGUAGES
@hisokamorow-_-
@hisokamorow-_- 3 ай бұрын
@@jpprod2043 I have to admit, when I first read this I thought you were completely wrong, but reading back into my Bible you’re 50% right. I read acts 2, and the word tongues was used to describe the people from Galilee speaking in native languages to the Jews (that they had no knowledge of). So yes, in this case you’re 100% right the word tongues was used interchangeably with languages. However, in 1 Corinthians 14:2, it states “For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Holy Spirit, but it will all be mysterious” This is different from languages, as no one will be able to understand you. Also, saying it’s mysterious and only God can hear you makes it distinct from Acts 2. Tongues and languages are used interchangeably in the Bible, it’s the context that defines them. Yes it is real, and the idea of getting revelation from tongues isn’t interpreting the language, it’s an interpretation from the Holy Spirit. It’s stated it’s completely unknown, it’s a language of God. So tongues does mean languages, but the practice I speak of here is speaking in an unknown language to God (which can only gain revelation from the Holy Spirit). In conclusion, we both need to read the Bible more 😂
@hisokamorow-_-
@hisokamorow-_- 3 ай бұрын
@@jpprod2043 for even more clarity, I think I’ll refer to it as “speaking in the spirit.” Tongues and language are used interchangeably, but in 1 Corinthians 14 when it says “speaking in the spirit” it only has one meaning. Thanks for this though, you gave me the opportunity to stop everything and read my Bible.
@jpprod2043

@@hisokamorow-_- unfortunately you’re still incorrect here. If you look into the original Greek manuscripts all mentions of “tongues” is the Greek word Glossa which ALWAYS means a language or dialect. Furthermore Paul clearly states that if no one is there to interpret one should simply keep quiet and to themselves as they are no better than a clanging symbol. And of the verse you refer to, the Greek transcript really states that “When one speaks in tongues (referring to one that speaks a language different from the congregation) that “he is not heard” meaning he is praying to himself and not causing disruption or confusing others. I can go on for days as I have studied in depth what tongues really means in the Bible and it is simply not the gibberish that modern Pentecostal churches try to pass off as “divine.” Also, there is scientific evidence that shows that your idea of “tongues” lacks any sort of linguistic depth to be factual.
@hisokamorow-_-
@hisokamorow-_- 3 ай бұрын
@@jpprod2043 yes, I said you were correct in that matter, Paul refers to speaking in the spirit not tongues, I corrected myself in the second reply to fix confusion. He said he should pray the first half in “the spirit” then the other half normally to actually understand what he is saying and praying for. 1 Corinthians 15 says “Well then what shall I do? I shall pray in the spirit, and also in words I understand. I shall sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand” The clanging symbol thing is accurate for speaking in the church, if no one understands what you’re praying for (not even yourself) then the gift of prophecy is better for the church because it can reach more people. It doesn’t make sense to go to church and speak in “the spirit”, you have no clue what you’re accomplishing. He also says “you should seek for this, but it’s better not to pray like this IN THE CHURCH because people won’t know how to pray with you.” Then again, I admitted I was wrong, tongues means languages. But the first verse I quoted says “a language no one can understand besides God.” I’m not denoting the fact that speaking in tongues is a different language, but a separate language only God knows.

Indeed. One of my gifts that I became afraid of was empathy. It makes it so much easier to understand another as I understand what it's like in their pit, but also hard for me to get human help because if i ask them and they fall into my own pit I've doubled the problem. I'm so grateful for my empathy, but i also have to find the right help for me when i need it.

They also spoken tongues. It is the initial sign you still need to speak in tongues as the initial sign of being born again, this is a it is also recorded, and John chapter 3, except except a man is born of the water and the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God

The gift of tongues isnt ALWAYS speaking in a heavenly language George, thats ALMOST never the case, thats extremely rare and ALWAYS requires an interpretor as well, so if there isnt one its not legit, what your pastor friend does isnt speaking in tongues, and tongues isnt meant for healing or anything else but delivering a message. Speaking in tongues most of the time is a person speaking in a foreign language they either never heard before and dont know or they barely know the language

My dad’s sister was a Pentecostal pastor. She was always asking if I spoke in tongues and if I knew Jesus even though she knew I knew Jesus and didn’t speak in tongues. She’s 96. I’m now 67. We thought we’d visit her as we drove across Texas, and lo and behold she started asking me again! Instead of saying polite goodbyes, I darted out of the restaurant. Her questioning me and especially my mom back in the 50’s -70’s made a huge tension between our families and my mom and dad! At some point let that rest otherwise it seems like their “concern “ is more about spiritual arrogance.

The whole gift of tongues and the amazing miracle was that the disciples were speaking in their own language then God was translating their language to another language so those who didn't speak the language could understand it's amazing how man grabs a hold of things that are God's miracles and always wants to make it more about them than about God

“In the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.” - Paul, 1 Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭(NASB1995‬‬) I encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the context of this verse (the previous verses, the whole chapter), as Paul makes it very clear that speaking in tongues is a wonderful gift that some people have, but it is to be used properly and it is by no means necessary for salvation.

There is prayer language or tongue. Which is the Spirit praying through us prayer we didn't know we needed. Prophetic tongue is with interpretation. Thar is the one not meant for all. But prayer tongue we should all seek. It brings us closer to God because it's Him speaking through us. But there are many great men of God that don't do this. But as Paul said "I wish you would all speak in tongues." God bless!!!

I think everyone just intuitively learns their gifts. Im almost positive mine is the gift of service. I enjoyed doing service projects when i was growing up, cleaning up areas and neighborhoods. We'd pick-up trash and cut people's grass for those who couldnt for whatever reason, with their permission. It made me feel really good even if the work was hard. I also ended up joining the military when i got older. I think i need to do more service again, whatever form it takes cause i feel something lacking from my life as i get really into the grind of being a working aged man(late 20s).
