Does the Quran Recommend Marriage? | Concubines in Islam series, part 6 | Dr. Shabir Ally

Let the Quran Speak

Dr. Shabir Ally makes the case that the Quran recommends that female slaves be married rather than taken as concubines. He points to 4:3, 4:23-24, 2:221 and 24:32 to show that the Quran is telling men to marry off women in their possession, either to someone else or to themselves, instead of assuming that they have the automatic right to sleep with them.

We must show respect to all the four great imams by following their wish Real proof > None of the four imams instructed people to follow them 👉🏻 All the four imams made it clear if you find a saying of Prophet P.B.U.H which contradicts what we have taught you ,then REJECT what we have taught you The efforts of all four imams were to direct the people to the Quran & Hadith only. People say we must follow a imam, Allah says whatever the Prophet gives you take it & whatever he forbids you leave it (( Quran 59:7 )) These days if you direct someone to a hadith, they will reply to you > our imam told us differently..........Astagfirullah 🤦🏼‍♂️

Very interesting interpretation by Muhammad Asad, and it is logical too. With many tafsir(s) out there, I am grateful to scholars who dedicated him/herself to study those and give us wide range of interpretation to ponder within our own capacity. Thank you, Dr. Shabir.

I believe that every law in the Qur'an proceeds from a principle: the principles of these verses, about marrying, 2, 3, 4, or a slave, is about doing justice to women - women of that time - how could it be concerned with doing justice to women of our time? Over time, human experience, circumstances, and events change our concepts and attitudes about principles. Justice may be one thing during war time and another thing doing peace time. Each state give different circumstances. This is why Allah gave us brains -- to figure out how to apply principles to our present circumstances. The first verse of Al Bakara says, "This book is a true guidance." It didn't say anything about it being a rule book. It used the word for guidance. So, in this case the principle remains the same - justice to women. But the application of justice to women has to change with the circumstances and attitudes.

Thank you. The only logical interpretation is to MARRY female slaves. And not to have sexual relations with them outside marriage, since it would be zina then....

He didn't say that here, nor did he say that in his other videos on the topic. What he said is that they could be raped and consent was not necessary - according to classical writings on the topic.

Assalamualaikum what if the woman captives of war belongs to polytheistic religion like Hinduism and if that women didn't want to show, do the muslims have the right to crush her freedom of choice . Like in many cases and allegations on muslim rulers they have been brutal to hindu communities to so much so that they have been looted, females raped, their gurus killed etc. So do you think the specific verse in Quran that says There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the right path has become distinct from the wrong path. لاَ إِكْرَاهَ فِي الدِّينِ (There is no compulsion in religion), meaning, "Do not force anyone to become Muslim" must be given most weightage while dealing with practicals of life.I want your honest opinion on this.

Interpreters, commentators, Shaykhs, and whoever else thinks that they are needed to provide understanding to the Qur'ān, is in effect claiming: that Allāh swt relies on them to give clear insights into His revelations are clearly misguided: Allāh swt does not need any creature in all of creation to do what He is more than capable of doing! Usually dr Shabbir gives a logical reasoning but in this case he ties himself in knots. The problem is that ancient religions reflect the society of their time and it has to evolve as times evolve......amongst the great religions of the world Islam stubbornly wants to retain its original customs...... remember change is the only constant .......

I think Dr. Shabir Ally is munafiq. If you will listen to him carefully you will notice along with giving the answers he is putting some doubts in your mind. Which will gradually effect our imaan. Like he says If after dying we will see that here is another God beside Allah we shall worshio him also. And in some video he says 100% certainty in faith is not required and it is also not even attainable. Nauzubillah...

No. Firstly, slavery (and the slavetrade) is prohibited internationally, with formal agreements few centuries ago. And sure, muslims *should* be at the front of progress in regards of improving social conduct! Self control (oppressing desires) and social progress (protecting society from individuals' desires) are the *main goal of Islam* Secondly, it is very clear that most of the world is at peace. Today the slavery is of a different nature (economical slavery, prisons-institutions that remove freedom, etc) Thirdly, whats illegal, is also prohibited for muslims. Therefore, concubineship is prohibited.

No. But I never heard a very clear refutation either. Since the Qur'an is concerned with justice to women, I find it confusing on one hand while sensible on the other. Neverthless, there is enough that is not confusing for me to think of the Qur'an as the truth. If I find out otherwise, it will be a different situation. I have a brain and I try to use it.

This is not true, from Shabir Ally. They weren't just captives of war. Women were kidnapped by corsairs, without war being declared. Moreover, there was the Ottoman blood tax. Some people were bought from others as sex slaves, such as from the Radhinite Jews. Other times, Muslim rulers, such as in Islamic Spain, in the case of the Almoravids, when they seized 6000 Christian girls and shipped them into the sex slave markets, Muslim rulers would seize women and export them as sex slaves. This would be excused as being a punishment for some sort of infraction by the dhimmi class. And of course, those dhimmis, in spite of the convenient accusations made against them, weren't equipped to defend their women and girls. In any case, I commend Shabir for being honest.

If you talk about Quran, Quran does talk about prisoners of war in 47:4 and what to do with them... But here he was talking about the practical situation on the ground, that muslims would do what Quran says and the opponent would do whatever they wanted to do, and that would result in abuse of muslim community... And here thing like Geneva convention is relavent because today even the opponent would be expected to follow some kind of model.

Assalamu alaikum I WILL PERSONALLY ADVISE YOU TO SEARCH FOR THIS VIDEO "Concubinage and Islam by Sh. Omar Suleiman" by the way based on my understanding to become a Muslim you just have to believe that there is only one god and The prophet Muhammad is the last messenger of Allah If you believe in all of this then technically speaking you are still a Muslim YOU SHOULD HAVE FAITH THAT ALLAH IS THE MOST MERCIFUL AND MOST COMPASSIONATE AND ALLAH IS FAIR TO ALL OF HIS CREATIONS OF ALL TIMES and what people do with humans is not something that Allah did everyone will be accountable for their actions and also different societies work in different ways in the past there was no prison or concentration camp the only way to handle war prisoners was by absorbing them or integrating them in the society and people who deviated from the teachings of the last messenger I don't need to think about them Allah will provide justice against their wrong actions I hope this may help you somehow may Allah protect and guide you
