My sister bought a Sigma 9mm in late 93, a year after the LA Riots (April 29, 1992). During the riots, she went to our parents home and waited it out. When she went home, my dad gave her .38 revolver to keep for protection. She worked at the Pacific Stock Exchange at the time and later, moved to a private firm in Newport Beach, Ca. She lived in a high rise downtown LA apartment 5 blocks from the PSE. She took classes and shot a 200 round course. I think that's the last time she shot it, on 1993. I just saw it and its I great shape and I passed her 100 rounds of 9mm milspec 124gr federal since there is a ammo shortage. I remember it shot great.

Ha, ha! That's probably even more true considering the Sigma's cost significantly fewer pennies than other competitive options.

I really love my sw sd 40ve. It was my first autoloading handgun. I personally do not mind the somewhat heavier trigger pull. The ergonomics are fine to me and I have over 2000 rds through it with very few malfunctions. For the price for generally around 299 its a sold pistol. And don't forget about that great customer service from smith and wesson, they will make good.

One difference that you don't see, you have to be looking for it and it was a direct result of the Glock vs. SW lawsuit, is the sear housing. If you look on the VE pistol, to the right of the ejector, you'll see the number "97" stamped on it, whereas on the older Sigma's its not there. It's to denote the year of the lawsuit and that the new Sear housing is "lawsuit compliant" in that the plastic shelf directly below the sear has been removed. This was the ONE issue that Glock found was patent infringement and forced S&W to settle. The plastic shelf acted as a drop safety in the same manner as the drop safety in Glock's patented "Safe Action System". With that plastic shelf below the sear, it kept the sear fully engaged with the striker tail while the trigger was at rest. If you push down on the sear of your SW40C, you'll find that it won't budge, but push it down on the SWVE, it will push down and could theoretically disengage from the striker tail when it is pre-cocked. S&W further attempted to abate a drop fire scenario by added a striker return spring in the updated slides to keep the striker engage with the striker safety plunger at all times. The sear was completely redesigned in the "Sigma Delta" series or SD (Self Defense as SW rebranded them) and absolved them of any further patent infringement and dress trade issues with the lawsuit.

Not the best trigger in the world but goes bang when you pull it first time, every time and sends bullets downrange where you aim them. What more do you want?

I have this in 9mm I bought second hand but it looks brand-new and in exalent condition. I took it to the range but every single round wouldn't eject or extract, therefore, I cleaned to military spec. I as well replaced the ejector and extractor. I plan to take it to the range at my next available opportunity and see how it works, fire's, and runs. I will inform the channel on part two video on how it works. Thank You. p.s I contacted w&s but no help or reply at this time due to recent events during pandemic.

Why is there metal missing on the underside of the slide (gouging) and odd wear on the older barrel near the breech?
@AlwaysAiming

Why does mine say SD9VE (on the upper) but clearly look like yours (Sigma style lower with no rails and smooth grip with no texture on the middle part of grip).
@hrfunk
@hrfunk Жыл бұрын
The Sigma pistols went through quite an evolution, and it seems S&W gave it a new designation with every change. The “VE” stands for “Value Edition.” As I recall, those pistols dispensed with the melonite slide finish and maybe one or two other things to help reduce their price.

@@hrfunk Yea i did research and mine is definitely a SIGMA (based on the no pic rail lower like yours). But most of the ones I see that 9mm don’t have the old looking SD9VE slide. Their part number says something different (SW or SF something). But google says they didn’t make SD9VE until 2011-2012 … so why does mine say SD9VE but clearly looks like it was made in the 90s or something (looks like a 9mm sigma slide). Can I get a new SD9VE slide and put it on the SIGMA lower to make more modern and updated? I think I saw someone put a SW40 or SD40 slide on their sigma lower. The 9mm and 40 slide are interchangeable?
@hrfunk
@hrfunk Жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysAiming The newer slide SHOULD work OK. As an aside, it's not unheard of for S&W to use up older parts on a "transition model". Did you buy your pistol factory new, ot was it used?

For fun, I just took the slide, barrel and recoil assembly off my 2015 SD and installed it on my 1996 Sigma. It went right on and seemed to function normally (I didn't test fire it). I also put the Sigma slide/barrel/recoil assembly on the SD frame. It likewise fit and seemed to function properly.

@hrfunk

I never noticed accuracy issues with mine. It’s no match pistol, but it’s certainly accurate enough for its intended purpose.

I got the smith wesson sigma sw40ve And I bought it use for 225 and man after 80rds the gun starts to fail to eject turn out the extractor breaking off is common in the sigma so I reorder a new whole set or extractor and the extractor plunger and the extractor bearing and I order a brand new recoil spring just incase to just swap and drop in now got to test it out this weeknd

Look at that huge gap on the 40c. Yikes!!!
@georgiacarry4748
@georgiacarry4748 Ай бұрын
That gap was deliberate. S&W being new to polymers at the time, didn't originally account for the expansion of the polymer during repeated firing, which would cause the action to bind up. So that gap was deliberate engineered between the frame and the slide to account for thermal expansion.
