Size Comparison - Sigma SW9VE vs Glock 19

I own a Sigma and a Glock 19 and carried a Glock for 7yrs as a cop. I've fired a ton of guns in the military too. The only difference I noticed between the Sigma and G19 was the Sigma has 2 trigger issues: 1) S&W put 2 trigger springs on the Sigma trigger, one spring inside the other. I was told this was part of settling the Glock lawsuit. I removed and discarded the inner trigger spring and replaced the outer spring with a patented aftermarket spring. The trigger is now smooth as butter. There is a video on youtube for this mod and the replacement outer spring is patented for being used in S&W handguns. I've heard of people replacing the outer spring with the spring from a ball point ink pen, but I used the patented replacement spring designed for the gun. 2) Second difference/issue with the trigger is the Sigma trigger seems to have to travel its full travel to reset after a shot. On the Glocks, if you pull the trigger until it fires, hold the trigger while the slide cycles, then release the trigger, it will move forward a little more than 1/2 inch then it resets and from there you can squeeze and fire a follow up shot. The Sigma trigger has to travel all the way forward before trigger resets. When trying to engage multiple targets and/or put multiple rounds on a single target as you would when shooting and moving, multiple, rapid succession shots with the Sigma is slow because of the long reset travel. For someone just standing still and shooting at paper or steel plates, it may not be as noticeable. For those like me with more advanced training and experience (cops, military, IDPA shooters, 3 gun competition shooters, etc), where moving and shooting are practiced to the point that its an involuntary action, the Sigma trigger's long reset travel can be very distracting and annoying. It's almost like you are operating faster than the gun can keep up. Bottom line, the Sigma can satisfy the need for basic range shooting, home defense and everyday carry if you practice with it and are comfortable with its trigger (same is true for all firearms) but for advanced shooting, competition shooting or Law Enforcement/Military work, I'd prefer a Glock out of the two.

The s&w sw9ve sigma was my first handgun. I love this thing. Doesn't hurt your hand after hours of shooting and has never jammed on me or the previous owner. All in all I love this gun!

Great informative comparison. The SW9VE was my first 9mm pistol. Since I've always owned S&W revolvers the trigger was not too heavy for me. I thought since I had seen a few videos that showed how easy it was too lighten up the trigger pull, I thought I would give it a try. I modded mine following the "justanothervideo" purchasing his spring. It has lightened the pull and my groupings did tighten up. I have had no problems with the Sigma after a couple of years of use and firing approximately 700 rounds so far. I would definitely recommend this firearm or the replacement model the SD9VE, you can't go wrong!

funny reading these comments, 99% of those that DONT like the sigma are the glock fans. Ofcourse your not going to like it with such a biased view..lol goodness. The Sigma is an awesome gun, absolutely nothing wrong with it, the 8lb trigger is actually fine, but again for those using Glocks its too much so hence the apex modification. Amazing gun. Shoots cheap monarch ammo just as good as the expensive brands. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a gun that doesnt break their piggy bank.

This S&W 9mm works just fine. Going to put more rounds through it today Lord willing. I prefer to keep Americans employed is one reason I chose the S&W. Based from this worlds crazy prices on everything, it has a good price at 350 bucks. I've only put 30 rounds through it but no issues with the Federal RTP9115.

Sw9 was my first pistol. Bought it on an impulse and I’ve loved it ever since. I have other semi auto pistols and this remains in carry rotation as well.

I bought one of these in 40 cal years ago and still have it. I paid $300.00 for it plus it had a mail in rebate for $50.00 and 2 more 14 round mags (comes with 2). This weapon has never failed me and I shot thousands thru it. They are very close to a glock so much in fact they got sued by glock. The only difference is the sigma has a double action trigger. This type of trigger for some is a deal breaker. It doesnt bother me at all! Nice vid !

Yes, ppl really hate on the sigma for its trigger but it was made that way. And there are tons of vids out there on how to "fix" the trigger. Never try that,,,,, youll just end up with a unreliable gun! It is what it is and left alone, makes a very very reliable firearm.

I love my Sigma! I have it in .40 and 9mm. Shoots just as good as my G23 and G19. I prefer the sigma, after just removing one of the sear springs for a lighter trigger.

I have had my sigma for a little over 9 years now and I still love it. Put on a grip sleeve, did the trigger mod, and has been my carry weapon. At least till I buy myself a 1911. I have been trying to find a dedicated light for it. Years ago I thought I saw a Streamlight or Surefire one but I haven't seen one since.

The first gun I bought was a .40 cal sigma. Didn't like the price of the ammo nor the recoil, so I got rid of it, but I admit that back then, I really didn't know what I was looking for -- thanks for the vid, I'd like to take another look at the sigma in 9mm.

Awesome video Miller. I have the SW9VE and bought it in '07. Never a FTF FTE or anything else. I bet Ive had 800 rounds or more through it. Great gun for the money. Not a Glock fan boy though. Never owned one

Great video as I know it's a question often asked be it in the online forums or a gun store itself. People want to pay "half-price" or thereabouts for a "Glock" and the Sigma is very tempting in this respect. Your video does a good job of providing an overview comparison. Lots of cases like this (Chinese 870, 1911 clones,Ruger copying Kel-Tec's 380 etc.). I have the exact same model Sigma as that in your video and I could not be happier--A Smith with two mags for less than 3 bills is larceny ;).

oh and for those thinking about getting the S&W sigma, it does not have a safety, and can fire without the mag in the gun but with one in the chamber, alot of guns dont do that.Also i did a trigger mod, it has a real heavy trigger pull,I just took out 2 springs, and I knew it had a heavy trigger pull before i bought it, after reading reviews about the gun, so i made the trigger mod before even firing.Feels good, its a really smooth shooting gun ;)

I own a Sigma sw9ve and have owned a Glock and I hate to say it but I love my Sigma way better than the Glock , I find that I can break the Sigma down easier than the Glock as my hands seem to be getting arthritis plus I must say I am a Smith & Wesson follower . Great video as usual I look forward to the future ones everyday .

I love mine, saved me 200.00 now i dont need a glock 19, i use my g26,fills my glock needs. as for sw9ve weird name but shoots fine no issues, yeah the trigger has creep, and its heavy, dry fire it alot and it will get better. has a s&w life time waranty, break it they will fix it. what more do you need. cant pawn it they wont give you ya shit for it so its gonna stay with ya, as it should, good reliable 9mm.

I actually got the S&W sigma 9mm about a week ago, I finally got to shoot some rounds through it today.I personally dont have a whole lot of money but so far i haven't had a failure to misfeed,or any feeding issues it fired just fine, and ive heard you can run any ammo through it,to the cheapest target ammo to the high-dollar self defense ammo Personally i dont care to much for brand names i like whats reliable.In my opinion if you cant afford a glock go with the sigma they are good guns

The latest version of the sd9ve has a better trigger. You can get a trigger kit for $20. And the rail is no longer the s&w proprietary rail.

I prefer the ergos of the Sigma over the Glock. The only factor that keeps me with the Glocks are the magazines. They are cheap, easy to find, and are used in many of my other weapons. I prefer the shape of the grip on the Sigma better. The slide stop is more comfortable, even though I grab the slide most times. I like the rounded edges better on the Sigma as well.

Compare the Sigma with the Hi Point c9, the slide on the Sigma looks larger than the Glock.

The stock triggers spring I believe was a 9 lb pull I changed that out I believe it brought it down to four and a half or 5 lb it's still a little bit long reset but it's a great Gun

I do not and have never owned a Glock so I cant comment on them though I do want to buy a Glock 19 one day but I bought the Sigma SW9VE as my first handgun and I have had it for at least 8 years now and have had no problems with it. Great gun in my opinion.

Just bought the SD9VE but have to wait another 9 days to get it because I'm in Commiefornia. I was able to buy 750 rounds of 9mm in 4 trips to Wal Mart.Now I want to get extra 16 round mags.

Also the iwb are hard to find blackhawk ahs a decent one for owb conceal with a trigger lock but since it's considered a sigma 9 almost all of the holsters won't have the trigger guard pressure retainment ain't the trigger guard is different between the sigma and the sw9ve it won't lock into a sigma holster but if you out enough tension on it it will stay if you fall but getting out of a low car with the tool on the door side will start to pull it out of the holster

If you can afford more I suggest an m&p. I traded my Block 22 for the m&p compact with the same capacity, and I think better quality than the block.

I have a sw9ve and my brother has a glock 19. They are basically the same just have to pull the sigma trigger a little harder. Both weapons seem to be very accurate and reliable. The people who bad mouth the sigma trigger probably have not shot them too many times. I do agree it is way to much of a trigger pull at first, but it smooths out over time and once you learn to shoot the sigma accurately, you can shoot any handgun.

Sig Sauer SP2022 for $400 with night sights is the best deal on the market right now IMO. Worth the little extra from the Sigma but you are better to save the $100-$150 on the Sig over the Glock and put the $ towards ammo. Also the Glock does not come with night sights.

the new sigmas.... AKA sd9ve or self defense, has the standard rail.... not the proprietary one. i have a sd9ve and sd40ve, and the quality is so worth the price. seems to be very reliable too. for the price you cant beat it. of course the trigger is pretty heavy but its not bad

I have owned and carried the sigma for 16 yrs and have put approx 4000 rounds through it and have never had any issues. The sigma is a great gun but unfortunately parts aren’t as easy to get as Glock parts if the Shit ever hits the fan.

I have the sigma shot Glock 19 sigma is a basic Glock but if you pay the extra 90 dollars for the full spring and match grade trigger upgrade it will beat a Glock hands down and the sigma is still a little gritty with the upgrade but a lot less pull than the Glock the upgrades eliminated recoil with short trigger reset and 4.8 trigger pull weight only other upgrade I would suggest is night sites but the factory plastic are just fine especially if you're a guy with a belly they don't dig into or leave marks on you like my mo shield 45 does that hurts to carry but rather safe than sorry

I own the s&w 40 ve model along with many other firearms Glocks included . Once you change the trigger springs the sw is great in my opinion . How ever i don't conceal carry a glock or the s&w . I conceal carry a 1911 . The only problem with it been with 2 rounds failing to fire out of aprox .1000 rounds they were cheap rounds solid strike on the primers they did not discharge . I blame the ammo b/c every other round in the mag fired .

on my sigma i pulled the trigger housing out and there was a spring inside a spring but i forget what spring i removed because its been so long but it cut the trigger pull in half and functioned great. only ever had one jam and it was due to not ejecting the shell fast enough so the slide caught it. that was before i did the trigger modification

The sigma is awesome I love it it was my first gun and I put a couple thousand rounds through it and I think I probably need to change the spring in the barrel but it's still fire as well and doesn't jam for everyday carry I switch back and forth between a hellcat and a m&p 9 shield there are some instances where I feel a safety is an optimal choice

In the year 2021 a shortage of firearms griped the nation and caused pepole to MOD the S&W sigma slide to fit a (Glock) P80 frame with much success and the Smith&Glockson was born!
