I enjoyed this video but I was waiting for the crescendo! That moment when you were going to do what no watercolor artist is able to do…adding a lighter color on top of the darks. I was hoping you would add some yellow or white to a dark area so that we could see if it stayed light or just blended in because of the water on the paper. I would love to see some more videos using this product. Making a waterfall, painting highlights on a rock, or doing a portrait and blending flesh tones would be great.

More! yes please! ive been wanting to try these for awhile, and I dont really like the color shift and mixing of gouache, but watching you with these, i feel like I may like the water soluble oils better! Probably wont replace watercolor for me, but this has so many practical uses, not to mention if you have health concerns over some aspects of oil painting. Thank you!

Definitely do more videos on this medium! I never heard of it. After watching this video, I can see the advantages of drying slower, lifting and opaque highlights. Yet it still feels like watercolor painting.

I’m so glad you did this! I’m primarily an acrylic painter which makes it hard for me to use watercolor (used to painting light over dark as opposed to dark over light) and I struggle with oils because of the drying time. I am definitely going to try this with my water mixable oils! Thanks!

love your short experiment can’t wait to see end result, I have used water mixable oil on this same paper with great joy so much fun , also panels and canvas, paper is my favorite. I started my painting journey with watercolor and it is still my first love in the mediums, it is like a great relationship, frustration with yourself for not understanding then elation when you get understanding that brings more depth to your love. Hope your audience agrees that your fidelity to watercolor will not suffer from showing us your skills with other water mediums😍

Selfishly I am trying to learn spontaneous painting with out making muddy messes. And hoping you continue to demonstrate your technique. Regardless of my goals, I hope you continue your curiosity and explore in the way that feeds your soul. Always a fan Just want to add that prayers continue to flow for the south and all this horror that everyone is going thru.

Totally cool. Definitely want to try. Always saw oils as opaque, slow-drying, hard to work with. This method is a whole new deal and would be fascinating to experiment with, having only worked in watermedia - acrylic, casein, gouache, watercolor.

Steve, I love this! I started out my painting journey using oils and some acrylics. But mostly oils. I gravitated to Layne Johnson and Chuck Black to watch their techniques. I then found your channel and switched to watercolour because I wanted something easier to clean up with no harsh chemicals. Then I was gifted some Cobra WS oils and I love them! I've been eyeing the Holbein Duo Aqua. I have used the Arches Oil paper, but don't like it. I use it for practice now. I will continue to use both mediums, so I would love to see some occasional WS oil videos. Thank you, Steve. I really enjoy your channel and I'm very appreciative of your teachings! Blessings to you and your family.

Please do more. I think the spontaneous water part of it worked great. But then to be able to oil paint highlights, etc. is quite an advantage. I think mounting the Arches paper to a panel would really provide an oil experience. I just unsure about the oil drying on paper. But i guess Arches solved that. Loved it.

I alternate between using watercolor/gouache and water mixable oils. I started watching your channel for water color techniques and started using them with the oils. These techniques also work well on various painting panels. I’ve found some colors that will separate in beautiful ways when used in a wash, and even granulate. It is well worth playing with these paints.

Firstly, it's great to see you here knowing you and your family are safe. I love these experimental videos! It looks to be a fascinating medium to explore, though it doesn't have that magical luminosity we all love so much in watercolour. It just looks 'flatter' somehow. I wonder if it could be used after a traditional wash for the detailing to give the best of both worlds? I think it's something I may have to explore a little. Thanks for the super informative video.
