@RGT 85: It's not how you are supposed to use the mClassic. You won't see any difference if you don't give this upscaler something to upscale. So, you have to set your Switch to output 720p docked and let the mClassic handle the upscaling. Then you will notice that this 1080p signal is better than the regular one. And it can also help to achieve better performance since the Switch has less pixels to push at any point in time.
@ItsSamStone Жыл бұрын
Honestly, it works great IMO for systems like PS3, Xbox 360, or even the Nintendo Switch. I use it when I am playing on my modded CFW PS3 or my Nintendo Switch. The best way to use it is to make sure to set your resolution to 720p... that way it can work it's magic and if set to 720p, it will actually upscale higher than 1080p - I can't remember the exact number but on my TV I see confirmation that it gets upscaled to like 1380xsomething or whatevs. I wish I could say the exact number... but I know it only does this when the image is set to 720p. When you let the MClassic do the majority of the "work" with it's AI upscaling, picture rendering, sharpening, and it's slight color saturation boost (deepens the contrast just enough to make things pop a little bit more) then it really truly is like a graphics upgrade IMO. If you have the money, then get it forsure. You can find a used one for cheaper... It's tough to tell from a KZbin video but in person on a non-compressed image feed coming straight from your console, it becomes a lot more apparent as to how much it actually does to improve the way things look. Now, I wouldn't really use it on a PS4/Pro, Xbox One, Xbox Series, or a PS5... I don't think it would do much good. You could try it? I might someday for kicks and grins lol... but for older systems or the Switch, I think it's pretty awesome. Pair it with a super good HDMI cable with an OLED TV or something, and you should be really happy. Even alone on your basic flat screen TV, it will look great! I am happy with my purchase no doubt!
@JesterPezz4 жыл бұрын
You didn’t get what this was made for, it does it’s best work with a 480p input. If you leave the switch at the highest resolution it’s basically going to pass it thru. 480p scales up to 1440p retaining 60fps if the game supports that frame rate allowing your switch to not work as hard but give you the higher resolution. Best example to use is a wii-u set to 480p, what happens afterwards is magical.
@samtagg87544 жыл бұрын
I thought it only upgraded 4x the original resolution?

It upscales one level. So 480 would upscale to 720, 720 to 1080p 1080 p to 1440 and 1440 to 4k. It will not upscale 480 to 1080p or 4k. Most newer tvs offer upscaling one level higher which makes this pointless for the switch.

In my opinion, the main reason people would buy this is if you have a 4K TV that doesn't natively upscale upscale. I don't think the device is trying to market that it will enhance your graphics. Rather, the major benefits are up-scaling to modern resolution and offering enhanced anti-aliasing. That being said, I don't see the value with a $100 price point. If this were $60 (the cost of a standard game), I'd likely make the investment.

It does make a difference not a huge one, but it does make a difference... I’m playing Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition scaling from 720p to 1080p on my 4K Sony X900F 55 and few people here in my house see a difference... a $100 difference?? if you have the extra money to spend maybe, but if you don’t and need games, go for the games. I am inclined to believe that they had to make the mClassic "too big to fit" and require the dongle after they fleshed out most of the design. They probably underestimated the amount of heat it produced, which in turn transfers to the console and had to retro fit the design with the dongle. Or I could be way off, so who knows.

RGT and all of you up here need to read this! I see so many you tubers posting videos and using this device incorrectly on the Switch. Games like Doom, Wolf 2, Xenoblade 1 and 2, that run natively in 720p you are supposed to set your Switch to 720p and let the mclassic do the upscaling for you. It is a better upscale than your Switch or your TV for that matter. But games that run in 900p or higher like Mario Odyssey and Dragonball Fighterz you leave the Switch in 1080p. It will also upscale games and run them in 2K if you have a monitor or tv that supports that resolution. I have been running tests on this device for the past nine months. I was an early backer and I ended up getting 1 for about 70 bucks. If you are hard headed and just want to keep running everything set to 1080p on your Switch then you won’t see the results you are desiring and you will get frustrated and ask yourself why did I waste my money on this stupid device. All because you didn’t follow simple directions. Once I understood this then Doom looked freaking amazing on the Switch! Xenoblade Definitive and 2 which were blurry now look more like how the creator’s envisioned them look instead of that blurry mess that they look like when running them normally On the Switch in 1080p. Look if you want the best possible visuals for the Switch in docked mode then you will follow these directions. If you really don’t care about graphics much and you are satisfied with how the graphics look on the Switch then you don’t need to worry about it. Lastly if you are looking at this video on KZbin you will not get a clear picture at what this device can do from this compressed video. Not at all!

A few things, the switch (on the mclassic) actually toggles between THREE settings, as shown on the box, not hidden deep in some user manual, I find that the swtich (nintendo) actully works better on the "retro mode". Its milage will vary from game to game, some games like Zelda link to the past and BotW look way better. I will agree the size of your tv should play a factor. On my 55 inch the difference is very noticable but on my computer monitor not as much. I actually recommend you connect the adapter by the tv, not the switch (it will need some adapters but this way lets you use the usb power of the tv if the tv has one). It works through an hdmi splitter as well. I would recommend you try and see the difference between the settings on some other games. As far as "making the same adjustments" on the tv" is highly inaccurate. First off, the finagling would be annoying, and the changes for more vibrant color can deeply effect the colors of shadows. Last, in Beat ups review of the Xenoblad Chronicles there is a great example of what it can do, I wonder what setting he has his Mclassic on. I have it and while what you say here about the device I would agree with for higher res systems like the ps5 and xbox one, as in the difference is minimal, for the switch and more retro consoles it is a difference maker. Although, even in those games the mileage will differ, try paper Mario games with, as in the 64 or gamecube, I would love to see a more detailed comparison with the mclassic modes.

@xenoneo4 жыл бұрын
I got the MClassic to play Skyward Sword with better visuals on the WiiU. The main thing you need to know to use it properly, is that it alters the image based on the resolution output. Playing Skyward Sword on the WiiU, with the system settings on 1080p did next to nothing, however if you set the system resolution to 480p (the actual resolution of the game) it makes a vast difference. So, be sure to lower the system resolution to match what the resolution of a game actually is to see the best results. The upscaling and effects are directly related to the signal the MClassic receives. Unfortunately, the Switch does not have an option for 900p to match the actual resolution of Breath of the Wild, but lowering it to 700p might give better results than using it with 1080p. You should revisit your testing of this with the method I've described if you want to see how useful the MClassic can be.

Or games that were downgraded ports get a nice boost. xenoblade 1 and 2 get a real nice clean up and the blurry look goes away. You really needed to try this on a wider range of games. Breath of the wild gets a nice clean up with it as well. Also most TVs dont support 4k or you need a 4k compatible gable to get the best results you should set the switch to 720p and get a very cleaned up 1080p signal. It usually looks a lot better setting your switch to 720p and just getting a constant 1080p then dealing with dynamic resolutions of from 900p going all over the place.

@FireMrshlBill4 жыл бұрын
I disagree. I like it for bumping my Switch from 720p to 1440p on my 4k tv. I do turn it off for some games on my PS3 on my older 1080p tv because it does crush darker colors, but still use it for stuff like PStv (720p) and Wii games on my WiiU (set to 480p). Even have a weaker Ryzen APU only PC on the same HDMI switch with those older consoles and like setting games to 720p on that and having it upscale/AA for 1080p.

It depends on the game to me. When playing astral chain, this did make it look a bit nicer. On other games that aren't as graphic intensive, It can make it a bit harder for me to read text in the game.

I got one of these recently and I honestly don't think it was worth the 100 bucks, especially not for more modern consoles. I do find it works best on older consoles like for example the Gamecube, and when combined with an HDMI adapter like the Carby I feel it makes a decent difference though even then I don't think it's worth the asking price. It seemed to make an okay difference on the PS3 as well, though you need to set the console's resolution to 720p otherwise it doesn't seem to do much (if anything). I've also noticed no picture (just a black screen) when it comes to PS1 and PS2 Classics on the PS3. I haven't figured out what causes that so it could be something I'm doing wrong, I just know that it is because of the mClassic since I get a picture if I remove it. That doesn't mean it may not be worth it for someone else though, it's just that for me the differences aren't worth $100. I guess in the end, it will all come down to personal preference and if the differences are worth the cost.

I bought one and in my opinion the MClassic works better on games using polygons rather than pixels. You can see a good enough improvement from consoles such as Sega's Dreamcast and Saturn. But it doesnt do so well on 8 -16 bit consoles / Mini's. To give an example, the difference in picture quality is going from component to HDMI. Castlevania Lords of Shadows 2 on the PS3 showed sharper, darker images which looked great. At 100.00 the price is a bit steep but still worth it.

if the adapter was meant for 4k upscaling i think it would have been interesting to see but it was tested at 1080p here... so i dunno. i think these adapters are niche and like many pointed out. better for the type of audience that play on older consoles. i did see a nice difference on n64 but nothing mind blowing. at 34.99 i would buy it. but doesnt seem worth it.

I have this and honestly the best place to use this is on a Wii U playing Wii games with the system resolution set 480p. It does a great job with AA and then its upscaler is better than the Wii U. The key to this device on any console is to set the console to render the games at original render size, if not you will get a weird output that won’t look any better.

Hack your Wii U and play GameCube games on it. I bet the MClassic will help a good bit with those.

Nice video RGT 85 👍. The Marseille mClassic looks a very neat Product, Cleans Up and Clears Up the Graphics, makes them abit Smoother n Smarter aswell but for the Price I think I'll live with the difference without it. Definitely interested in seeing the Comparison between the mClassic n mCable tho RGT 85 :-).

In the other hand, it's a huge difference to watch this channel at 1080p (like this video), compared with the usual 720p that is normally used for the rest of the content.

Nice comparison. I've seen better results in other channels, that's why I'm a little confused if this is worth or not. Did you test the standard signal without the MClassic pluged or you just turned it off? Maybe it's still filtering the image even without the upscaling. Anyway, thank you very much for this comparison!

I wonder what the Switch Resolution was set to? From what I have read in reviews, default settings (Automatic, which for most is 1080p) will see slight changes, but it is recommended to manually set the Switch Resolution to 720p to see the best overall quality. I believe in general with the adapter and cables, it is recommended to set the console resolution to 1 setting lower than max.
@badlatency99794 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Forcing the console resolution to 720p also helps the mClassic work better on those games that output at mid resolutions like 900p since it doesn't process those well. Forcing those games to 720p makes the mClassic actually work properly.

Got the Mclassic specifically for the Dreamcast, and let me tell u running vga to the Mclassic and the old girl has never looked better. Everything is nice crisp and clear. Admittedly the antialiasing improvement is good but don't expect Razer straight edges. It can only do so much with a 480p image and is really dependent on the game. Evolution has very clean edges to begin with and the Mclassic really smoothes it out. Grandia 2 which at times can have some very jaggy edges u can see how it only does so much. Over all its a great product and paring it with a OSSC or Retro Tink 2X Pro is awesome on the 480 consoles. Just make sure to stay away from composite upscaling u end up with a bloby mess, go with svideo or component for best results. Ps. The Retro Tink 2X Pro can handle only upto 480/576i no progressive scan support for those resolution.

The only difference I notice : Sonic .. 30fps since it was 60fps on sega genesis but maybe the Elgato was not allowing 60fps as seen at 03:28 But yeah that upscaler is just not a big changer at all imho. It does work but the diminishing returns are so low for such a price. Of course it's still better than nothing, the product makes sense if you're really picky on these improvements.

This device was made more to be a better 4k upscaler, so I would be trying it out on a 4k TV. 1080p footage can't really do it justice.

I play with both as mcable and a mclassic on my switch. Crowd funded the classic for 65 I think and got 3 cables from amazon on a buy 2 get one end free sale. I play on a 55 inch 4k tv so for me it notice it alot on all the systems. They do upscale to 4k 60fps if you have 4k yuv 4.2.0 tv most modern are yuv 4.4.4. I posted for someone to try both in another video and they sayed the sharpness was to much. You can turn it down on tv.... the anti-alising effect does stack with them both or if you use 2 cables inline with a female to female adapter. One thing people also dont seem to notice is the cables ( haven't tasted on classic but I'm sure does) enhances lighting. When I was playing warframe on the plains of eidolon on one X it enhanced godrays made them more noticeable. When I modded skyrim I had to unmod lighting mods because the cables made the Ray's too potent. I recommend them for people that have bigger displays. Playing starlink on switch with 2 of the products looks as good as playing on ps4 pro with 1 ( minus the weaker graphic textures of some things like water).

The device upscales to 2k and 4k resolution but you have to keep in that the monitor or tv have to be able to display those resolutions.

I have the Mclassic, and in my opinion, it works best with GameCube and the eon GCHD, the original Xbox with component cables through an ossc, and PS2 games running on backwards compatibility PS3 set to output 480p. With those settings, use the Mclassic in retro mode, and it cleans up the image substantially on those systems while upscaling the image to 1080p. It’s fantastic for those systems....Nintendo Switch not so much

There is a device I use for my projector called Darbeevison video enhancer. It works great for 720p and 1080p but does not upscale to 4K. It’s pricier but gives a much better picture plus it allows you to tweak the settings for the device. All Switch owners should own one!

I've had one since November, I'd say its worth it for the switch if you have games that have a blurry low resolution like xenoblade chronicles 2, spryo or games with not the greatest graphics like pokemon sword and shield.

Yeah he did not use games that really show what it can do. A lot of games that do no better then 900p look better if you lock the switch to 720p and let the mclassic upscale them.
@L4nc3_4_l0t4 жыл бұрын
I got the mClassic when they did the crowdfunding for it so the price was at *~75$* making it a bit more affordable :) My conclusion: it does look a good bit better (btw texture sharpness can NOT be increased by TV settings so that's anti-aliasing and sharpness done by the device) but the results vary on the game that's being played. The most obvious are usually detail textures in games that have them (Skyrim, Doom... especially in *Sinking City!* ) or Anti aliasing in everything 3D as wells as upscaled resolution (using a *4k* 50" TV makes the differences more pronounced compared to *1080P* I guess). *PS: you CAN hide the device by putting it at the OTHER end of the hdmi cable (the TV side) you DON'T have to stick it into the console end for it to work AND if the TV has a free USB port you can use that to power the mClassic as well.* Would I buy it again at full price? considering that my gaming PC is sitting next to the Switch i guess yes (even if it is just to NOT make the Switch look too far behind the PC) but only because I use my Switch in docked mode quite a lot.

The m classic is best for the SSAA anti aliasing. Games like Fire Emblem with the super jagged edges get smoothed over a ton. Games that already have AA won’t really show much difference. Actual TRUE comparisons show a massive difference in jagged edges in Zelda and Mario Kart. And Fire Emblem, I can personally attest, looks better. Don’t buy it for anything else. Buy it for the anti aliasing for Switch games that don’t have it.
