Depends. If your display uses a crappy upscaling method or algorithm, then the mClassic should show a more significant improvement. @@redwidow1358 Marseille themselves and every other review talk about how if a game is native 720p then the mCable/mClassic NEED to work with that to properly anti-alias the image. If the Switch upscales it first, it screws it all up and the difference is WAY less noticeable. Watch Digital Foundry's proper review of the mCable, because this review is misinformation TRASH. I've owned the mCable for 2 years now, and have used it across a ton of games of varying resolutions, and it absolutely needs to work with the resolution closest to the game's native resolution for best results. Lots of Switch games are native 720p docked, so this is a great cable for Switch.
@JesterPezz4 жыл бұрын
You didn’t get what this was made for, it does it’s best work with a 480p input. If you leave the switch at the highest resolution it’s basically going to pass it thru. 480p scales up to 1440p retaining 60fps if the game supports that frame rate allowing your switch to not work as hard but give you the higher resolution. Best example to use is a wii-u set to 480p, what happens afterwards is magical.
@samtagg87544 жыл бұрын
I thought it only upgraded 4x the original resolution?

It upscales one level. So 480 would upscale to 720, 720 to 1080p 1080 p to 1440 and 1440 to 4k. It will not upscale 480 to 1080p or 4k. Most newer tvs offer upscaling one level higher which makes this pointless for the switch.

@RGT 85: It's not how you are supposed to use the mClassic. You won't see any difference if you don't give this upscaler something to upscale. So, you have to set your Switch to output 720p docked and let the mClassic handle the upscaling. Then you will notice that this 1080p signal is better than the regular one. And it can also help to achieve better performance since the Switch has less pixels to push at any point in time.

mClassic looks great on larger TVs. There's a noticeable difference in games like Astral Chain with it on and off and it also sharpens up images on the PSVR coming from a regular PS4 console :) It is expensive though.

I got the MClassic to play Skyward Sword with better visuals on the WiiU. The main thing you need to know to use it properly, is that it alters the image based on the resolution output. Playing Skyward Sword on the WiiU, with the system settings on 1080p did next to nothing, however if you set the system resolution to 480p (the actual resolution of the game) it makes a vast difference. So, be sure to lower the system resolution to match what the resolution of a game actually is to see the best results. The upscaling and effects are directly related to the signal the MClassic receives. Unfortunately, the Switch does not have an option for 900p to match the actual resolution of Breath of the Wild, but lowering it to 700p might give better results than using it with 1080p. You should revisit your testing of this with the method I've described if you want to see how useful the MClassic can be.

Yes this works. A lot of nintendo First party games are so well done the most you get is a slightly cleaner image. But a lot of 2nd party or indie games can get real cleaned up thanks to it. Or games that were downgraded ports get a nice boost. xenoblade 1 and 2 get a real nice clean up and the blurry look goes away. You really needed to try this on a wider range of games. Breath of the wild gets a nice clean up with it as well. Also most TVs dont support 4k or you need a 4k compatible gable to get the best results you should set the switch to 720p and get a very cleaned up 1080p signal. It usually looks a lot better setting your switch to 720p and just getting a constant 1080p then dealing with dynamic resolutions of from 900p going all over the place.

I bought one and in my opinion the MClassic works better on games using polygons rather than pixels. You can see a good enough improvement from consoles such as Sega's Dreamcast and Saturn. But it doesnt do so well on 8 -16 bit consoles / Mini's. To give an example, the difference in picture quality is going from component to HDMI. Castlevania Lords of Shadows 2 on the PS3 showed sharper, darker images which looked great. At 100.00 the price is a bit steep but still worth it.

Got the Mclassic specifically for the Dreamcast, and let me tell u running vga to the Mclassic and the old girl has never looked better. Everything is nice crisp and clear. Admittedly the antialiasing improvement is good but don't expect Razer straight edges. It can only do so much with a 480p image and is really dependent on the game. Evolution has very clean edges to begin with and the Mclassic really smoothes it out. Grandia 2 which at times can have some very jaggy edges u can see how it only does so much. Over all its a great product and paring it with a OSSC or Retro Tink 2X Pro is awesome on the 480 consoles. Just make sure to stay away from composite upscaling u end up with a bloby mess, go with svideo or component for best results. Ps. The Retro Tink 2X Pro can handle only upto 480/576i no progressive scan support for those resolution.

My recommendation, if possible: Get a (used) PS4 or a Xbox One plus a switch console or, better, a switch lite. Most of the triple A titles are also available on current gen TV consoles, and also on the switch. So you can play for example "The outer worlds" in 4k with smooth framerate (ideally on Xbox One X) in all of it´s glory on a good TV, and on the go on your switch or switch lite. The switch is too limited in terms of horsepower to show the same glory as the big TV consoles do. These mclassic adapters are nice, but not really needed for retrogaming, but the benefit you can have on the switch is too limited.

I have it, and I love it. But, I find most people are using it incorrectly. (1) In the Switch settings, limit your Switch to 720p, you don't want the Switch upscaling it to 1080p, you want the mClassic. (2) The mClassic struggles with dynamic resolutions.. It needs a static resolution to do the best.. So if you can, limit it down to 720p. (3) The best results come from a TV that will support 1440p.. Which mine does. Most 4k tvs do not support 1440p... Mine does... (4) Games that struggle with framerate... Limiting the Switch to 720p will help smooth that out, because the mClassic is able to take over. (5) If you don't have a 1440p compatible tv, I would not buy it.. While it really does a much better job at upscaling then your Switch for games like Fire Emblem Three Houses, and can really clean up Xenoblade and Witcher 3 to a degree... It isn't really worth the money, to not have the 1440p resolution. (6) I would buy it, even if you are not compatible with a 1440p tv, if you do a lot of PS3 and backwards gaming... Playing FF13 in 1440p (with the PS3 limited to 720p in the settings), looks amazing.

I play on a 55 inch 4k tv so for me it notice it alot on all the systems. They do upscale to 4k 60fps if you have 4k yuv 4.2.0 tv most modern are yuv 4.4.4. I posted for someone to try both in another video and they sayed the sharpness was to much. You can turn it down on tv.... the anti-alising effect does stack with them both or if you use 2 cables inline with a female to female adapter. One thing people also dont seem to notice is the cables ( haven't tasted on classic but I'm sure does) enhances lighting. When I was playing warframe on the plains of eidolon on one X it enhanced godrays made them more noticeable. When I modded skyrim I had to unmod lighting mods because the cables made the Ray's too potent. I recommend them for people that have bigger displays. Playing starlink on switch with 2 of the products looks as good as playing on ps4 pro with 1 ( minus the weaker graphic textures of some things like water).

The device upscales to 2k and 4k resolution but you have to keep in that the monitor or tv have to be able to display those resolutions.

Now what I wanna see is the M classic or cable used with a modded over clocked switch. I think that would show a true difference.

No Thanks RGT...although a great in depth description. Have a great day!

I hope the next Nintendo console will have hardware good enough to run high quality 3rd party games like cyberpunk 2077 and COD.

Wait did you try to up the resolution to 2k or 4k? also is your capture device a 4k capture device?
@nintendians4 жыл бұрын
i think it work best on a gaming system that doesn't have hd resolution or a hdmi slot, but you have to use the a component to hdmi adapter.

It works great with 720p, but this video didn't mention that or properly demonstrate that, which is why it's awful. It's a known thing that it only makes a small difference with 1080p images. But tons of Switch games are 720p native resolution docked, so you've gotta match the system output resolution(which takes 6 seconds in the UI) to get proper results.

You don't even need an M-Cable for this if you own a Samsung QLED TV it can upscale your Switch games to 4K and interpolate frames to 120fps. Animal Crossing is a great game to do it with.

Solid review. I don’t think it is worth the price tag, but to each his own.

Thanks for being honest. I have one and it's definitely not worth 100$ if you use it on a Switch. Thats pretty odd since thats what its mainly advertised for. However, it makes Wii games look great on the Wii U. Makes Twilight Princess almost look like a native Wii U game.

I didn't see substantial enough evidence for me to want to chomp down and buy this.

Watch an actual decent review of this(literally about any out there, DigitalFoundy's is good), RGT didn't know what he was doing, didn't even set Witcher 3 to 720p to get the proper anti-aliasing going. It's known that these cables only barely improve 1080p images, but they substantially improve 720p, and massively improve 480p. Tons of Switch games run 720p native docked, so it is actually great for Switch if you use it properly, and it literally takes only 6 seconds to change output resolution in the system UI.

I literally cannot see the difference if you were to put the two images side by side without labeling them, I could not tell you which is which unless I had a lucky guess (since it would be a 50/50 chance lol)
@damekoveloz80334 жыл бұрын
@RGT85 it upscales to 1440p and is great for titles lacking in anti aliasing like Link's awakening.

I love your honesty bro. Big reason I'm a fan. I'm a sucker for products like these but good to see it won't really make a big difference. Just saved 99 bucks

I love it. I use it on my monitor to play smash and and mk8 deluxe and it makes it look so nice and clean. I got it when it was on for 70 bucks over the 100. So I love it

Let’s see the next comparison. Honestly don’t see much of a difference with the mClassic, but maybe the cable will show a bigger difference.

The problem is that for some reason ppl play this on dock. If you look at it as a handheld, it’s a graphical powerhouse.

It has a bigger difference on cetrian games. Mario kart, Fire emblem. Also looks a lot better if you put it on a 144hz monitor. I have one don't think it was worth the £100 I paid but bored during lockdown.

The switch is from 2017 but honestly the graphics performance is more like a device from 2010. I understand that they had to try to pack a lot of power into such a small form factor, but if it weren't for the first party Nintendo games, this console would be trash, but hey same goes for the Wii and it's one of the best selling consoles of all time. Nintendo is saved by it's first party games, it's never claimed to be a graphics powerhouse. With that being said, they've GOT TO make a switch pro in the next year or there's going to be a huge decline of sales for Nintendo with the PS5 and Xbox Series X coming out so soon. I trust Nintendo tho. They make some of the best video games of all time which is the only reason I have a switch!

I've been thinking about the switch and it's graphical capabilities. What really blows me away is that it is comparable to just one generational graphics jump to the gamecube released 20 years ago. To explain, the wii wasn't really a huge jump from the gsmecube. Actually, the wii was like a slightly beefier gamecube. And the Switch is just a bit more powerful than a wii u.
