A few year ago I stepped my game up from sipping Maker and Bulleit (I was whiskey dumb) to sipping Woodford. The price and taste fit my needs. I’m blessed to be able to afford a little more so I’m venturing out quite a bit. But if I’m out at bar or at a function Woodford is an easy go to.

@@Ghoul181 I’ve tried a bit more and can now recomend Russel’s Reserve single barrel and Widow Jane 10 yr($60 and $40 respectively where I live) and both have proven to be really nice. Woodford Reserve is consistent in every batch, including the Double Oaked. I know, I sell Woodford. As far as flavor profile, I get toasted marshmallow, oak and vanilla / toffee / caramel tones. With rye spice on the backend. TJ - water it down to 60 proof to taste everything. Use spring water.

Fun fact on chemistry vs. what we experience or at least think we do. The solution of water and ethanol has higher viscosity than either of them alone, and it is at its highest at ABV of 46%. Of course there are other compounds that might effect it slightly, but theoretically that should be around the "thickest" point. More ethanol than that, and it start getting thinner again.

I wanted to find something I've never had an stay away from the common one like Jim and jack. I enjoyed this. although it's 50.00 bucks in my town and 40.00 a town over. Luckily I'm a sipper when it comes to bourbon so a single bottle lasts me alone for months

I have trouble determining the both on the nose and with the flavor but I like toffee and chocolate so that might explain why I like this so much. It is the only bourbon that I always have one open and usually buy it a 1.75L and refill the smaller bottles to put on the shelf to drink. I think it is a really good bourbon and a great value. I think you scored it low but feel pretty good it was only a point off of Blanton's because I can always get WR but have yet to see Blanton's.

It tastes like Aunt Jemima pancake syrup. I tried it neat, rocks and an old fashion. Not so good. It might be better if it was higher proof. It made an excellent hi-ball with ginger ale and a splash of San Pelagrino. Over all it’s cloyingly sweet and off putting. Even makes a rough, hard to drink bourbon and coke. It’s like taking a Coke and putting cheap pancake syrup in it. I never tried it before today and I’m disappointed with it. I’m gonna try it out with some ice and tonic water to see if it helps round out the flavor.

Lol, fair point. I was just pre-empting the haters that are like "you've drank half the bottle already and are now doing the review". We made at least a few old fashions with it. We usually spread out the pours across multiple bottles, so we don't go too hard into one bottle in one sitting.

I think you're being too kind to Woodford here. I'm not even a Blanton's fan boy, and I will admit that Blanton's has way more flavor and complexity than the base Woodford. Woodford Reserve is basically just water and black pepper. There's absolutely nothing to write home about it. Woodford Double Oaked is great, but I'd rather drink almost anything but the base level Woodford Reserve.
