Prepare you wallet for much abuse going forward. I started out in this hobby around the beginning of 2023... I now have like 200-250 bottles. Luckily they mostly fit onto two warehouse style shelves in my basement... Well they did. Fridge started leaking water thru the floor so right now they live on the floor, on a few tables, in my office (looks great when on video calls with my CFO and COO), and the kitchen table. When you have to move 200+ bottles you start questioning your life decisions.

Eagle Rare is always so marked up in my area ($80-$90) and it's just hard to justify that knowing the MSRP. However occasionally Buffalo Trace will be at Sam's Club for $23! For me that takes the cake when it's that cheap. WT101 would get my 2nd, and Russell Reserve 3rd.

Watching your videos from Wales, UK and always blows my mind hearing and seeing how difficult it is to get Buffalo a trace products. I am a big fan of them and need to walk not even 10mins to my local convenience store to buy Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace and sometimes Blanton’s all at retail price (BT - £21, Eagle Rare - £32 & Blanton’s - £80) I’ve never not been able to buy a bottle of any of them. Keep up the good work! Love the videos

Here in the US, marketing strategy can play heavily into the way brands like BT, ER, EHT, etc, are distributed. For example, in one region, BT might be plentiful while ER is hardly anywhere to be found. Travel a few states away, and it could very well be the exact opposite scenario. This creates the perception that these bottles are rare and in short supply, and that's how they get hyped up and sought after. Of course, this is just my theory, based upon observations from my travels. Cheers!🥃

I spent about 20 years drinking plain Ol Jim and Sprite and have only recently tried to expand and get a little more refined. I picked up a bottle of BT for about 42 with Tax in Cartersville Ga just the other day. Never had it, greatly enjoyed my first pour, looking forward to taking my time with it this weekend. Bought my first bottle of Turkey 101 while at the in laws in Syracuse recently and I didn’t love the first pour. Splashed some cream soda in and polished it off. The next day, it had snowed and I wasn’t leaving the hotel and decided a second glass was worth a try and I don’t know if the cork just needed to be pulled twice or what. I really enjoyed it and finished off a good part of the bottle before flying out. They are getting 31$ a bottle up there, but it’s also basically Canada so whatever.

Solid list. I like Old Forester products - the 100 is my more common bottle but for special occasions Ill enjoy their 1897 and the 1910. My bottles typically last a few years especially anything over 50 dollars so I typically stick to Old Forester, Wild Turkey 101 and what not. In the UK lots of the Brands are sold at lower proof. Buffalo Trace is everywhere at around 26 USD but is 80 Proof . We get an Old Forester at 86 Proof for 28 USD. WT101 has to be 101 proof and can be found for around 32 USD. Eagle Rare at 90 proof is getting easier to find for around 42 USD and I collect mine today :). Love the WT101 especially in a cocktail as the proof stands up well and the slight spice shines thorough any sweetness in say and Old Fashioned.

Can agree on most, even if your definition of value differs from mine. Unfortunately up here in Vermont, the Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are almost impossible to find. Also Early Times BIB is nowhere to be found. I'm still looking to find a bottle to try. A couple of bottles I would add are the Old Granddad BIB and 114. They are constants as they are great for Manhattans and Old Fashions at a solid price point. In addition, surprised to see no love for Elijah Craig. Easy to find and a very solid bourbon for $25-30.

Yep! I understand the appeal of EW BIB but if i'm only going to enjoy a few glasses of bourbon at night I want to make sure the experience is worthwhile. Sometimes I get a bit sloshed if playing a game while drinking (because you don't realize how much you have drank while sitting) but that's rarely why I drink bourbon. After a long week at work it might be, but that's a whole nother issue. To me the best value pour is the one giving me the most experience per dollar and I don't get much experience, beyond drunkenness, from stuff like EW BIB or WT 101. Those flavors are okay but not interesting anymore. Something like ECBP C923 and Stagg are bottles I'd label as best values. I've picked up Stagg for $53... that's an experience in a glen. ECBP for $80 is also a ton of flavor experience.

If there's one bottle that I really think is missing from the list, it's OGD 114. Love that bottle. Maybe the very best value, IMO. Usually $21-$23 around here. Surprised to see Evan Williams BiB so high. It's good, but not overly impressive even though it's cheap. A bit ago I blinded OGD 114 ($23), Early Times ($21/L), Very Old Barton 100pf ($16.50) and Evan Williams BiB ($19) and they went in that order for me. Can't disagree with WT101 at the top of the list, though. Also think Benchmark Top Floor would give many of these a run for their money at just $15.50.

I am surprised Elijah Craig is not on the list. Also, I sure miss the days when Eagle Rare was $20. Those were the days. Over twice the price now and still considered a good deal.

Great video again. The worst thing is that I'm not even a bourbon drinker but because of your vids I am actually tinkering with it a bit. I just like the shop hunts, it's soothing.

Love ur top 5 picks EXCEPT the Eagle Rare 10 at the price u stated. $80-$90 here in WNC! WT 101 for Old Fashions. Four Roses or Makers Mark for light mixers. Russell Single Barrel and Old Forester 1920 sippers. My go-to’s but I’m always open for suggestions!!

Brewzle, referring to your comment half way through. I am here to start a selection. I’m not sure if I like bourbon, but I love your videos. A video on what a newbie should start with would be cool. Similar to this one.

Start with something mid-shelf or even go to a liquor store that does store picks. Ask if they have a bottle that they suggest out of the store picks and then ask if you can taste it before you buy. Usually they would have a bottle of their store picks open for customers to try. Now it's all up to personal preference if you like lower proof or higher proof stuff. I personally don't care for higher proof stuff so I stick to the 90-100 proof range. It's all about trial and error to find what your taste is. Another good suggestion is to go to a bar, find one with a decent bourbon selection and ask for a tumbler glass and a shot of each bourbon you want to try. You're going to want to swirl it in the glass first then smell it, you don't only want to enjoy the taste but the smell as well. Then move on to tasting it, we don't knock it back like a shot but we take our sip swirl then swallow that. See what you notice in the taste, heck see if you get the same notes from the smell of it as the taste or maybe what differences you're noticing. Also have a a glass of water to cleanse your palate between tastings. Big factor as well maybe seeing what is readily available in local stores and then going to a tasting or bar. I will also say don't start on hard to find bottles or allocated stuff and or anything that'll break the bank. This is a hobby so it's meant to be enjoyable and enjoyed fully. Most of the people I talk to about bourbon I've met at a tasting or an allocated bottle drop day. For me I started with knob creek 9 year and enjoy that still along with buffalo trace, eagle rare(when I can get it for $50) and my absolute favorite is Blanton's but that is a special occasion night kind of pour

Honestly, I think the biggest difference between the black top ET and the new one is simply whoever is blending it. Same juice but blending is an artform and no two blenders are going to do it the same.

Mr. Tater King, I loved this video. I need to get a few of these bottles. Eagle Rare, OF 1920. I enjoy Evan Williams BIB, Mellow Corn BIB, and Old Grandad BIB. I actually made a blend of those three, 2:1:1 EW/OGD/MC. I drink it straight up, so chilled in a glass, stirred and strained into my rocks glass. Im happy that WT101 was the #1 pick. That and the WT101 Rye are always on my shelf.

At MSRP I can definitely agree on the Eagle Rare. For a store pick single barrel I'd be willing to pay a little bit more though. I'm still searching for Early Times BIB and literally any Old Forester (the only one available that I can find is the 86 proof?).

That's a great value list...completely agree with those and all of these are almost always on my bar. I'd probably swap out the 4 Roses Single Barrel for small batch, as I'm willing to spend a little bit more for that pour and it's 'decanter worthy' at my place. I'd also add Redwood Empire Lost Monarch and the Jack Daniels Bonded Rye...both are about $30 here in Colorado.

We went for the tour at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort KY. The mashbill is the same for Benchmark, Buffalo Trace, and Eagle Rare. The difference is the temp, humidity, and aging in the barrel. Eagle Rare is aged at a humid basement level for 10 yr. Benchmark is aged less at a hit attic level of the same building. Buffalo Trace is in the middle of the building.

I really appreciate the comments on Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace. Seems like a lot of people hate on this brand - but for me BT just has a certain magic to their products. Nothing against all the other brands on this list, but damn it, there's something special going on with BT products for me. Fits my taste buds like a glove.
