I’m with Sean on this one. I was super pessimistic Handy would be worth the price. I was able to scoop one for $175 and figured I should crack it. Blown away with how sweet and layered the handy was. Powdered sugar, and candied oranges for days and it doesn’t drink anywhere near the proof. Blinded it against michters 10 year rye , EH Taylor straight rye, michters toasted rye and Jack Daniel’s BPR and for me the Handy was my favorite profile as it was so much sweeter than the rest and coats your pallet. If you like sugar you’ll like the Handy.

EH Taylor is a different mashbill. It's something like 65% rye and 35% malted barely. I believe this is also the Barton Rye recipe that was in the old High West and Kentucky Owl's. It may also be the same mashbill that goes into Fleischmann's Rye

Doesn’t someone else distill it for them? I heard that somewhere. They don’t even acknowledge the 5th mashbill for it on tours, because it’s made somewhere else.

@marcusgaming7114 I'm pretty sure it's made at Barton. If you have a bottle of EH Taylor rye it has the DSP for Barton and BT on the bottle.

Really funny timing on this - got to try my first THH just this past weekend at a bar for $30 USD for an ounce (it was the 2020 one I believe). Man the persistence of sweet, complex flavour on that thing was something kinda special, not a whole lot of bottles have that thing going for them.

I have never poured thh for anyone that didn’t absolutely love it. THH is maybe the easiest BTAC to find and the more ppl that say its a B, makes it that much easier to find. I appreciate those ppl.

I have to say that I got a chance to try Saz 18 and it was one of the most complex and amazing whiskies I've ever had. I don't even mind that it's bottled at 90 proof. It had an exceptional mouthfeel, palate was honey, ginger, berries, baking spices, botanicals, cardamom, basil, black pepper, and a nice thread of sweet oak. All the spice notes really popped and tasted effervescent and tingly like pop rocks. Definitely in the "life-changing" whiskey category and solidified for me that rye can be just as exceptional as bourbon. I think y'all should revisit it if you get the chance! I will agree though that Handy, while pretty darn good, isn't life changing like the rest of the BTAC line. Amazing mouthfeel though.

In addition to bar price… can you ad what you’d pay for a bottle? There’s one sitting close for $499, and it’s crazy, but btac tax. Essentially $20 an ounce. I’m not paying that, unless it was wlw, but someone will.

I won the right to buy a Handy this year at a big red liquor event. While I was at the store I also got a Sazerac Rye pick to compare it to the handy and it was exceptionally good. Tasted just like the handy at 90 proof while my regular sazerac rye was entirely different and not great

As I understand it, E.H. Taylor is a high-rye mashbill that's produced at Barton, and is therefor a different mashbill than Sazerac 18, Baby Saz, Handy.

My first drink of 2024 Handy blew me out of the water and I ranked it over 2024 GTS. Until GTS opened and then it blew Handy out. But I still love Handy.

The guy who owns the liquor store I usually go to let me try a 2014 he has - he views it as the best rye he’s ever had. I’d agree, it was incredible. Drank way lower than the proof too. I’ve had a couple others but none were as good

A (now closed) local restaurant/bar near me had a decent collection and had a bottle of Handy as well. They were mostly a summer place with a nice outdoor area so were trying to drum up some business in December a couple years back. They offered half price pours. I was going to try a couple while my wife was out shopping. The pour was almost 2” deep in a single rocks glass. At 125 proof, I decided to stop after one. I think it was $25.

I really like this one! To me yes it is a young age statement but still drinks special and is worthy of being in the lineup. I think it’s actually undervalued at $400 on secondary compared to the rest of the BTAC
