Turkish presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin to Conflict Zone at the Berlin Forum Policy: ´We are taking care of our own national security.’ Does Turkey still want to be in the EU?
Turkey launched 'Operation Peace Spring' in October against Kurdish militias in Syria after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with his US counterpart.
Following the phone call, Donald Trump ordered the withdrawal of American troops from the area.
Turkish presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin defended Ankara’s military operation in northern Syria by saying that Turkey’s objective was to clear the shared border from "terrorist elements."
"We have had a very clear policy line on this issue," Kalin told DW’s Conflict Zone host Tim Sebastian.
This interview was conducted at the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum hosted by the Körber Stiftung.

The aim of free journalism is to put powerful people in front of their responsibilities. A good journalist cannot let a politician telling his lies without saying anything or making any objection. The minister spokesman had the chance to say his opinion but the journalists contradicted him with data. So I think he did a good job!

Faruk ÇELEPKOLU So good journalism in your eyes is allowing diplomats (read sycophants of Erdogan) to make political statements, in obvious contradiction to mounting evidence by various neutral observers such as Amnesty International. Excuse us for being for being a bit incredulous but Turkey doesn’t exactly have a very credible or honourable record starting from the Armenian and Pontians genocides in the early 20th century.

I have seen many many comments of Tim's many many videos, the most obvious one is he is rude and not allow people to speak their ideas.....But another thing I found from this video, and probably many other videos is that Mr.Tim is always quoting US senator or congressman, or Whitehouse, or Pentagon, WHYWHYWHY, Is US always true ?????? Dear friends who watch this video, or many other his interview videos, please correct me if I am wrong.

The interviewer was destroyed by the Turkish spokesman. The relentless barrage of superficial claims and interruptions accompanied by aggression was clinically countered by Mr Kalin’s class and intellect. Best of luck to Turkey and it’s endeavours with countering the prejudice and terrorism impacting the civilians in the region.

Interviewer is so annoying, keeps interrupting.. what kind of debate is it, when the interviewer can just interrupt answers all the time, making it impossible for the other party, to actually explain their views?

Why is turkey in the E.U to begin with ?, they are not Europeans , they have nothing in common with European countries other than technically being geographically in Europe.

As a Turk, I totally agree. Turkey doesn't need Europe, as a trading partner okay, but else, I don't see what we should do with Europeans. For example, Turkey is one of a few countries that can feed itself (super fertile for agriculture) and is not depending to the outside or an alliance for that.

@DMB Y You mention monetary policy, but the countries you name are all Euro countries. Not every EU country is a Euro country. Some because they did not pass the criteria, Some because they don't want and let the people decide wheater implementing Euro or not. There is also another thing which you forget to mention. A country who enters EU is neither a netto-payer or a netto-receiver. Until now, Turkey alwas was a netto-receiver without being a member. So far no Turkish administration ever had problems with that. Free money to "support and build democracy" Year after year. Somehow something went wrong with this.

Firstly ,Ancient Constantinople is Now ISTANBUL , it's the Financial capital of Turkey and One of the Mega metropolitan city in the world. Secondly, Turkey is in Europe and Asia but it's officially recognised as in Europe. Thirdly, Europeans never be Europeans without the Constantinople and Byzantine Empire.the grat king nepolian benapart's famous quotes is that "i have a dream to make one kingdom in the world and make Constantinople (istanbul) is it's Capital". Turkey deserve to be member of EU.it will boost economic development along with other EU members.Don't discriminate anyone by their Race, colour, ethnic or religious background.Peace
