Nice vid as usual. Can’t complain about fish up here, wife and I just topped 1000 from the shore for year, mostly pollock of varying sizes, but also codling coley dogs mackerel gar wrasse, a few bass etc., but 70% on float. Some days you can’t get a fish to take a lure, the next day they won’t touch bait under a float.

No complaints here, it's a wonderfully part of the world and highlighted by your tremendous catch count!

Cute little Lumpsucker fish there Nath., and a bit of a less stressful trip than your Orkney one lol... We use a similar technique when chasing Mackeral and Yakkas, (Yellow Tailed Scad), for livies. Normally cut a sabiki in two, so two droppers, and then put a small metal on the bottom, killer method.
@SlippyLimpets2 жыл бұрын
Aye, it was a little stressfull, just a shame the fish weren't of the same stamp. Not sure how it ended up on my drogue in 18m of water, I thought they were bottom dwellers. It works well for bass over here too, a little fly tied on to the leader can be killer when the bite is finicky. Tight lines mate👍🎣

Pink shrimp...always the one in the boat to collect bait on the way out to a wreck. Never fails to catch. Strange about the noticeable Cod decline in the area you were, could be due to a few reasons. Thanks for sharing as usual. All the best Nath and TL's

Does seem to be lethal, had some nice pollack on them over the wrecks, as well as bait. Who knows what the cause is but hopefully they return for the winter shore fishing season🤞 thanks as always and TL👍🎣

I thought I was the only kayak fisherman using an Ikea bag as a drogue :) I've only managed one trip this year on the Prowler, with some excellent cod and pollack on soft plastics, just north of Berwick. Nice to see some success out on the kayak - wish I could free up the time for a session or three myself. Collywell Bay is calling...
@SlippyLimpets2 жыл бұрын
Best drogue by far! Especially for the cost! I've fished up there (south of Eyemouth) a couple of times but not really had any joy, looks very fishy, though. It's funny, I live close to Colywell Bay but have only fished it once. Normally head round the back of St Mary's.
@taranscott1552 жыл бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets I've had 14 lb pollack in Collywell Bay, slow drifting a Fiiish Black Minnow on the seward side of Collywell rock. You get the odd bass as well at the surface, but they seldom show. Last summer I tried a fly rod and had great fun, but this year has been a write off with moving house from Holywell to Cramlington.

im sure you meant your information about the tackle that the rod was in your opinion the best for that type of fishing, not sure it would be much use on a storm beach in the middle of winter, but nice to see you off the rocks, even though there were some lumps out there at times, soon be time for cod off the beach
@SlippyLimpets2 жыл бұрын
You're right, it would be terrible for that type of fishing, but then it is a kayak specific rod and only costs 20 quid. It's as at home jigging 7oz leads as it is chucking 10g lures. The cod are here! Not offering too much of spoiler but this Sundays video is of my first session on the beach. Tight lines John👍🎣

Nice video again Nathan.. Last year stupid arse me came in from fishing in my sib and after packing everything away and getting home and cleaning and then putting everything in the shed I realised that I had left my fish finder box with everything up in the Highlands.. Gutted... but it gave me an excuse to upgrade my fish finder.. Its a Garmin 4cv with GPS.. Mate its brilliant and I still haven't figured out how to use all of its tricks.. But my last trip I fished a mark and the next day I went back out and found it straight away.. Maybe ask the Mrs for it for your Christmas present.. Lol.. I payed around 200 for it.. The one I lost was the same as your using just now.. Great wee finder.. But the upgrade is well worth the money.. Just a thought.. Aw the best.. And tight lines.. 🎣🎣🎣🎣
@SlippyLimpets2 жыл бұрын
Ah, that sounds like something I'd do!😂 I've looked at upgrading my finder but this one works so well, and I've heard that Garmin are a little slower than Lowrance when it comes to ping speed. Next finder will defo have a plotter on it, though. Having a map is often more helpful than having a finder. 2 together though. Lethal

Been a terrible UK sea fishing year for me. Haven't caught a single fish here despite trying many times. Just so much wind in the wrong direction. Mackeral weren't around for me, not sea trout and if it hadn't been for a week in Norway I'd have had a right nightmare of a season. Plenty pike in float tube though .

The teaser has got me out of many a blank, though I now upgrade the teaser to something like a 3-4” sandeel pattern (sluggo, storm wild eye sandeel). Running out of the later, is what converted me to start making my own lures actually! As for the fishing offshore this year… what little I’ve managed to achieve this year afloat, all the hard, inshore reefs have seemed void of fish for large states of the tide. Only at certain times on a tide have small pockets been found, including coalies. I know people often complain about no fish, but this is really bizarre. No coalies, is like no dogfish for those down south. Why no fish? My main theories are the significantly warmer sea temps 100+ miles offshore and the sheer abundance of herring along with their fry. We have had good cod and pollack, but only in shallow water and over the kelp beds. Some of the pollack even to Orkney standards! I have no idea why but that’s where the fish have been, at least for us anyway. Onshore with the lures it’s a different story, but it’s certainly tough and strange offshore! Hopefully the winter season has a bit more normality to it. Cheers
@SlippyLimpets2 жыл бұрын
I remember you saying about the larger teasers, I've tried large pike flies and they work a treat just lacking in the weedless front compared to things like Slug-go's. Not tried the Storm worms, yet. Interesting theory about the poor fishing, makes sense and why I was trying different depths of drift. I've often found the better fish closer in at Whitley Bay, typically around 4m. Thanks as always Oli and tight lines

You tend to favour expensive jellies but 3 bright beads will do. no need for all these expensive trendy jellies. indian boat anglers bind foil to large hook, commercial uk anglers use strips of plastic. a fish can't discern such detail. total waste of money.
