Good session 🙂 I am reluctantly rigging my Prowler back up with the sonar - I don't like the weight and how it alters the kayak's handling, but it's a big old sea without knowing what is down there, so needs must. My daughter has asked to come with me next time I go out so calm seas and low wind on a weekend is required. That's a lot of nice-to-have's all coming together at the same time for Collywell Bay...
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
Aye, I know what you mean, my old prowler would never track properly with a transducer hanging out the the bottom of the hull. Saying that, if I had to choose between location and sonar, then navionics wins hands down. At least that way I can target structure and make the sea a little smaller. Fingers crossed conditions align for you. Tight lines👍🎣

hi nathan great videos, i was wondering could you do a video on how you check the weather and sea conditions in advance and how you interpret the information as i never see you turning up with your kayak to be met by seas that a gull would be fearful of as happened to me the other day lol
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, that's a good idea. I'll stick it on the board. I do live by the sea so it's pretty easy to check, but a quick insight is to use magicseaweed and any of the webcams they have available, for the area you'd like to fish. An onshore wind will often bring those swells in too.

Nice one Nathan 👍 Brilliant session, really jealous of your codling that side. I'm gonna have to get some craws and give them a try, prawns are deadly for everything except pelagics here, you can drift a live prawn through a shoal of macks or gars and they won't touch it for some reason, peel one and they'll have it, fussy beggars🤣 I guess a craw is similar outline to a prawn 🦐.

I’ve just got a kayak but I’m confused on rods what would 8-12ld be in grams thanks
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
Boat rods are rated by a test curve normally in lbs, rather than a casting weight in grams, because they're designed to fish vertically. Fishing vertically causes less stress on the rod than casting a lure. An example is my 15-50g lure rod can quite happily fish a 90g jig vertically.

Or thanks mate that helps a lot thanks

I deffinately need to try those crawls, what hook and weight combination do you use?

Depends on the lure and depth, but for that model I use a 4/0 hook with a 40g cheb. The chebs can be swapped around easily if the water is shallower. Hope this helps

Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
