Yes, currently dealing with this. I was all about leaving my regrowth alone (don't like my scalp showing) and I've realized that the loose hair that is supposed to be in my locks isn't and my locs are getting a bit thinner. Yikes!

It just makes you love your locs that much more, in my opinion, because you've literally cared for them :) I'm happy that you're finding the content enjoyable and helpful. Thanks for letting me know!

I’m trying the braid method on one of my locs with my last retwist so I’m looking forward to seeing if it works. Thanks for that close up of the marrying tangled locs, that’s my hair 😩, separating them can be unbearable if I go too long between retwists. I do mine every 5-6 weeks, I tried 7.5 weeks once and was ready to throw my whole head away it hurt so bad 😢. But the info you gave is spot on, so glad you’re back!🙌🏽

I have high hopes for the braid technique on your locs. Let me know how it goes, if you remember. And yeah, sometimes it's good to show those close-up shots so that you can really see what's going on. I'm glad but sorry to hear that I'm not the only one who has crazy marriages. Btw, you'll find that perfect frequency with which to do your maintenance with time. The braid technique may help to inform that decision too. Thanks for writing me! :)

So can we talk about the glasses?!Loving the glasses! Also really love that you're going in depth with this issue. So many people don't know this. As I think I told you before, I did this braid technique with my 1st set. I used to twist the loose hair around my loc but it didnt stay. Out of frustration I thought to try braiding it 8 years into my 1st loc journey and it worked well! I've been doing this technique for almost 6 year (last set and this one) as needed.

Hahaha...thank you. The glasses are just my computer glasses which block out blue light and UV light. It's to combat macular degeneration. I'm happy to hear that they're stylish as well as useful lol On to the topic at hand... I just feel like so many loc'ers are still in the dark about hair growing away from locs. I'm trying my best to get the word out but I wish other people would speak on it to help the dissemination of information. I guess I will have to just rely on Sebbies to share my videos in the meantime all the while continuing to make more videos about it. I'm glad the braid technique has been helpful and I'm not surprised. It definitely holds the hair in place much better than when you twist it around the loc. I also used to do that technique. Thanks for sharing! :)

Hair grows away from locs, but I’m deciding to deal with the results because im tired of not having a thick foundation of hair. Living with persistent thinning is not ideal. If a loc falls off, it falls off.

Might it instead be a question of their natural loc size being larger than they're trying to maintain?
@AtreyuLocs4 жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting point. I, however, don’t know if locs have a “natural size”. And if so, what determines that? I suppose if it does exist, then it could serve as a possible explanation for why hair grows away from the loc. But for me, I have locs of all different sizes and my hair grows away so I’m less inclined to see it as a viable explanation. Thanks for giving your thoughts!

Thank you. I'm 7 weeks into my journey and I noticed that my locs are growing in this way i can see alot of growth but all from my roots. I thought everyone's grew this way? I wasn't clear from your video how this can cause breakage? Is this in the case of mature locs?
@AtreyuLocs4 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome! Breakage can occur because if that new growth is not incorporated into the appropriate locs, then the locs will thin out over time. But because you are only 7 weeks into your journey (Congrats btw!) then you should n't have to worry too much about it as your locs are still forming at this point. I'll make a video going into more depth. Thanks for the question! :)

@@AtreyuLocs okay thank you for this video it addressed my primary question about the amount of hair growing from my roots. It sounds silly but I had so much roots from week 3 i thought it was hair coming OUT OF my starter locs (I have the coil method). I wonder if the growth will always be this quick. Maybe it will slow down once I am fully locked. I already have budding from week 4/5. Love

Can a person free form if their hair grows away from the locs?
@AtreyuLocs3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I think they'd have to start out free form as that would allow the hairs to combine as they see fit. The trouble with free-forming with hair that grows away from you locs after having been a manicured loc'er is that some locs will thin out and break off because the hair is growing away from the locs. That's why I chose the semi free form route. I know that at some point maintenance needs to be done so that I don't lose any of my locs that I've been growing for a while now. I hope that answers your question.
