Great channel! I just found it tonight and was binge watching the Sleep videos, but jumped over here to give some feedback: 1. The lesson pacing is just right for me 2. I like the quick intro review of the gear. Fast and straight to the point. 3. I like the music theory commentary as you go through the riffs. Maybe I’ll geek out and go look up major 3rd or Phrygian or whatever. Or maybe I don’t care and I just want to bang on some power chords. I like how you name the theory without slowing down the flow of the lesson. 4. People tell me “you should be able to figure it out by ear!” Man, I’ve got two kids and a mortgage. I need and little help getting started so I can jump right in when I get 10 minutes free to riff out! Thanks for the content!
@DoesItDoom5 жыл бұрын
Man I really appreciate this! Some people learn by ear easier than others--I watch tons of live footage of every song I learn for these lessons, which helps tremendously. I try to hit on all the important stuff without wasting anyone's time! We all just want the info that matters, so that's how I try to frame my content. @@DoesItDoom So you record direct with the built-in cab emulation? Interesting, because it usually sounds better than what I remember from when people tested that option in the Micro Terror/Micro Dark demos (unless that's just my memory). The tones in the last Saint Vitus and Sleep tutorials were pretty cool. Maybe it's just the pedals doing their work?
@DoesItDoom5 жыл бұрын
@@Tehstroyer Yep, that's how I record all of my lessons. For The Druid I was running on the dirty channel with no pedals; for Dying Inside I was running the clean channel with Coda Effects Black Hole. It's not the greatest recorded guitar sound I've ever heard overall, but it sounds decent and lets me record silently which is what I need to do the guitar lessons.

So, I have been playing this through a pretty similar setup, but some key changes in the equipment. Playing through a Les Paul, tone down, Orange Crush 30 watt, but a different pedal setup. I’ve been going through the clean channel and using a Behringer fuzz to dirty the signal. I’ve been placing the fuzz between fuzz 1 and fuzz 2. It’s basically fuzz 1.5. Try it sometime! It’s not as gain saturated as the fuzz 2 setting, but has more growl than fuzz 1. Eric Merrow discovered the fuzz 1.5 setting and it does really well with EHG.

It always sounds lower I figured they played the same as crowbar. The take as needed tone had a lot of low end and fuzz from that ampeg he’s used other amps tho but on that album it sounds like he’s using lighter gauge strings

The feedback...lol. But overall you nailed it...and you showed me something I never knew which is Bower used his forward pickup. I always thought he used the rear humbucker with heavy amp distortion and the lows turned up on the guitar and amp.
