Once again you nail it! This is one of those songs I pretty much learned by ear but there’s some little things they do that I never thought to do that really give the song that EW flavor. Also that riff when the vocals kick in, was apparently playing that wrong as I thought it was 12th fret power chord slide to the 10th fret so it’s awesome to see how that sinister sounding riff is played. Thanks for uploading! Praise Iommi!

Oni das Alagoas each string on your guitar needs to be tuned down 5 semitones (2 and a half steps). You’ll need to go up in string gauge to maintain reasonable string tension and your guitar will likely need a setup (if you’ve never tried it before, I’d recommend at least 11-54). Jonas Jørgensen Jus uses Ernie Ball 10-52 in B for EW. I think I could use 10-49 and be fine, tbh. Iommi uses 9-42 for C# Standard. It just comes down to using a lighter touch and not having a big aversion to a bit of string buzz. I play 10-46 in C Standard.

Random question as I'm a bass player without a bass and lately ended up with some guitar gear so I'm learning a new instrument...not a bad thing right? Ive had a crappy Jackson dinky reverse sitting around on a guitar stand for about a year that ive basically used as a hat rack , mentioned to one of the guys at work I didn't play it because I absolutely loathe the floyd rose and dont have an amp , so he sold me a Marshall G100r CD 100 watt head and a 4×12 Marshall slant cab for $150 , I took it to the old neighbor next door to jam because hes "actually" a guitar player , and we jammed his '70 sg and his '72 sg double neck through it and he fell in love with it and hounded me a week with cash in hand (I know , I know ...the halfstack sucks) I refused to sell it. So I went back a few days later to pick it up and he comes walking out of the back room and lays a hardshell Gibson USA case at me feet tells me to open it up , so I did and in side is a 1993 gibson less paul studio in wine red , and he says its mine if ill trade . At this point im trying to play it cool but sorta freaking inside , come home call my best friend (who is also a guitar player ) and ask advice wich you can probably guess qhat his reaction was. So I grab the case and say thank you and on my way out the door mentioned in passing that now I NEED an amp , so he gives me a Marshall G30r CD 30 watt practice amp (literally the exact amp I just traded but 30 watts instead of 100). I know these are cheap marshalls and not a super high end les paul , and I know the les paul will "doom" , but my question is can I get a good doom tone out of this cheap 30 watt marshall? Or should I be considering finding another amp in the future . ..not really trting to jam with a band just sorta playing to get music out of my head and have a positive outlet for some built up stress . And would you have a "setting" suggestion for this amp , at the moment I'm in D standard till i can make it to the store for some new strings.

@DoesItDoom6 жыл бұрын
Griffin Biscone for this video I’m using the Boost Mode, which is how Jus runs it live these days (and for a long time now, really). Don’t remember exact settings but likely treble just past noon, bass almost full up, and gain max. Level doesn’t matter as it is disabled in Boost mode. You can hear my clean tone with the pedal off has a bit of dirt going on as well.

Not sure. I just learn everything watching live performances and this is how it’s played.
@derelictelectric22165 жыл бұрын
I don't think I've watched a live video yet. But that one note that gets bent in the verse and sounds like the whole thing might topple over is my favorite part. At first I wondered if there was another effects in addition to the octave fuzz that was used on that part. I finally decided it must be the bass doing a hard bend on that note that gives it such a unique sound. Probably less pronounced live.

Would you ever do a lesson for Death's Door by Uncle Acid? Also, currently in the process of learning this one, hella heavy tune!

You use light strings do you see a benifit in lighter strings say from 56-13? Or do you just prefer them lighter?
@DoesItDoom5 жыл бұрын
I prefer lighter gauge strings in general as it makes for easier legato techniques (bends, vibrato, hammer-ons, pull-offs, trills, etc). That said, I could easily step my B-Standard stuff up to 12-56 and still be pretty happy with it.

This channel rules! My question to you is how are you tuning at 24.75 scale so low with only 11's and it's not floppy and loose?
@DoesItDoom5 жыл бұрын
To some degree it is. Iommi uses 9-42 for C# Standard in Sabbath, Jus uses 10-52 for B Standard in Wizard, Victor Griffin uses 9-46 in Pentagram, etc. Using lighter strings in low tunings for doom is probably more common than you think, at least amoung the older generation of doom bands. The lower string tension gives your vibrato a certain wobble and the slack strings have a bit of s unique tone as well.

Does It Doom? I mean its doom, not djent. Im just getting into stoner/doom/sludge, digging it so far. Favourite stoner bands are electric wizard and red fang (though red fang is more stoner rock, and fast pasted). Mastodon has that stoner-y vibe too, just different

I have a LP and a Tele. I can’t get bellow c# without running into string buzz. Do you have any tips other than buying a baritone?
@DoesItDoom5 жыл бұрын
@@Bldyiii there are only a few options, really. If you want to stay lighter on string gauge with a well playing string action, you need to learn to use a lighter touch with your picking hand and understand that you're going to have some string buzz, which really isn't a major issue on an electric guitar. Tony Iommi uses 9-42 in C# standard, so watch some of his videos closely. You'll see his picking hand attack is very light but his strings are very close to the fretboard. He definitely has some buzz while playing unamplified. The other option, if you don't want to deal with string buzz, is to increase string gauge and/or raise your action, both of which will make the guitar a bit more difficult to play. You should also make sure your tailpiece is as far into the guitar as possible, to insure maximum break angle as the strings approach the bridge, which will also increase string tension.
