The guitar is tuned to B Standard.
String gauge: 11 - 14 - 18 - 28 - 38 - 49
The song is played in the key of C# Minor and it's riffs utilize elements from the C Phrygian Mode (R, b2, b3, p4, p5, b6, b7), the C# Natural Minor Scale (R, M2, b3, p4, p5, b6, b7), and the C# Harmonic Minor Scale (R, M2, b3, p4, p5, b6, M7).

How come you have so few subs? Just discovered your channel and I really dig it. I like your approach and genre-wise it hits the nail for me. Will you do anything on soloing in general in the future? Doom riffing is a lot of power chord chunking which is fun but very easy to learn. What im strugglening with is performing tasty, bluesy but still doomy solos. I tend to shred which can be annoying with time but have troubles with groovy, tasty solos. Any help would by higly appreciated! So far keep up the good work and cheers from germany
@DoesItDoom
@DoesItDoom 5 жыл бұрын
I agree my sub count is far too low ;) Spread the word anywhere you can! I initially learned lead guitar by learning as many of the leads as I could off the first 5 Black Sabbath records--I'm talking a whole lot of them. By ear, reading official tab books, reading online tabs, video lessons, KZbin, etc. You start to recognize quite a few patterns that way. I eventually traced Iommi's playing back to his early blues days in the band Mythology (you can find a poor quality but still worth listening to live performance of the band here on KZbin), which lead me down the road of a 3-4 year deep study of the blues. I spent years learning and analyzing straight Chicago Blues (B.B. King, Freddie King, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Magic Sam, etc.) along with some Delta Blues (Son House, Lightnin' Hopkins, Skip James, etc.) and the early British Blues of the mid to late 60's (Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, etc). I think learning the blues taught me a lot about music in general, much of which I am able to take back to doom and understand things in a way I never had in years prior. Really, though, when it comes down to doom leads, in a classic sense, you just have to work that 6-tone blues scale {R, b3, p4, b5, p5, b7} with a blend of slow blues and vibrato along with a healthy share of slides, trills, and various legato techniques. I may teach it at some point, but not sure when.

Will dig deeper into that in the close future, I have some Books on Delta Blues and Texas Licks from my old man and currently trying to figure out what these guys did. @@thewlzr8658 I'm with ya. That could be something I would enjoy. So is most of Electric Wizards stuff in B?
@DoesItDoom
@DoesItDoom 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. They have played in B live for a long time as well. Several songs on Dopethrone are Bb/A# but everything thereafter is B.

Any idea of what wahs they use? Sounds like a fuzz wah.

Oh yeah that’s definitely a Dunlop Wah. I had one just like that but could never get a crazy, wild wah sound that I liked but Jus seems to have found that with this pedal!

Adam A that’s one of his best. Peter just plays the most heart wrenching Minor blues in general. A Fool No More, Love That Burns, Worried Dream, First Train Home, etc. all just unmatched in terms of minor blues.

my question. why not just use a 7-string?
@DoesItDoom
@DoesItDoom 2 жыл бұрын
You could… but traditionally doom metal hasn’t needed to maintain the higher register. And this stuff was written well before 7-string guitars were really a thing.
@jorgynes6443
@jorgynes6443 2 жыл бұрын
@@DoesItDoom wasn't drugula released in 2007? 7-strings have been a 'thing' since the mid- late 90s with Nu-Metal and bands like KoRn and Fear Factory and other Nu-Metals made them popular.
@DoesItDoom
@DoesItDoom 2 жыл бұрын
@@jorgynes6443 yes, but Electric Wizard was formed in 1993. You’ll have to ask Jus Oborn why he doesn’t use a 7-String, but to me it’s pretty clear.

@jorgynes6443 2 жыл бұрын
@@DoesItDoom I guess its not for me. I play the song with a 7-string and its so much easier and less of a hassle then going through that kind of down tuning. It would be kool to hear from him. but even when it comes to Nu-Metal bands like slipknot that use drastic downtuning on a 6-string. My question always remains the same. why not just use a 7-string.

WTF is B standard tuning? Your dropping a standard tuned guitar 5 frets? That sounds real floppy. The riffs are monolithic. In s purely technical finger sense this is like something a beginner would play. But the melodicism and power and vibe.... that has to be earned.
@DoesItDoom
@DoesItDoom Жыл бұрын
Yep, dropping the pitch of each string 2.5 full steps (5 half steps). You can compensate for the reduced string tension by going up in gauge. 12-60 or so is fairly typical for B-standard.
