Guitarists don't realize how easy it is to write the heaviest of riffs. All you need is a decent amp, good guitar tone, understand basic pentatonic box scales and some open tunings, learn how to properly pick a note and palm mute strings and you are ready to rock. I have been playing guitar for 45 years and I still come back to the very simple basics. Anyone can learn to play the heaviest heavy music. Who gives a flying fuck about Yngwie? Thanks for the great lessons.

I love how practical this is; been playing around with it for a couple of days now (beginner/intermediate; about 18 months since I started playing), and it feels much easier to get a riff out of this than it does if I'm just using a normal scale box. I guess the same principle could be applied to other scales too.

Yes, exactly. Take any scale, pick a key, and look at it up and down the neck rather than box shapes.

Sabb and Zep were blues bands, Sabb a little less obvious but nevertheless, they were bluesy. The blues scale hits something in all of us. Well maybe not in India or other Asian countries, but actually Church of Misery is from Japan an they are blues all the way!
