He recovered really well following this advice, got him walking up to a mile again after 4 months. Unfortunately his CCL on his other leg has ruptured now as well, which was always likely after the first one goes. The recovery is slower this time but I'm keeping hope.

thank you so much for this video, my 10yr old german shepherd i believe has a partial tear. His limp is not as bad as your dogs limp, but its only been about a week since its appeared. Thank you for this, you are assuring all of us of what we already know but you put into practice and shared your experience with us. My dog just recently injured his right leg too. The vet was telling me that he could never run again and I cried all the way home thinking it was going to be the end of his livelihood if I didn't fork over the $6K. But I just bought the same supplements you mentioned along with hemp oil. I'm currently debating on getting a brace, did you use one for her?

@@ProdukSin Activity should be restricted to only bathroom breaks during the early stages of recovery. Once scare tissue is able to form around the joint and stability is regained activity can slowly increase. How long did you keep her on meds? My dog is literally going through the same thing right now. Same leg and all. Hes af the point where hes putting weight on it. I'm concerned about him being on the meds too long. Hes on an anti inflammatory and a pain/sedative. Hes a 1 year old pitbull so hes the sedative to keep him calm because hes so rambunctious. Still I'm not a fan of having him on meds. My vet hasn't pushed the surgery thing at all. Also let me mention, the sedative barely works lol he just harasses me a little less to go outside and play.

@jackverdoni6233
@jackverdoni6233 3 жыл бұрын
HI, could be meniscus? With gentle flexion and extension of affected leg, I and my vet could feel, hear clicking. Vet felt it was a meniscus tear, as they often go along with the Ccl tear/rupture. However, now, three weeks later with rest and only walking to go to bathroom (he's a couch potato 13 yr old dog), I don't feel or hear the clicking.
@teamtruth
@teamtruth 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah its really common in this injury. Im 7 weeks into CM with my American Bully (14 months) click was present intermittently, then clicking stopped for 5 weeks straight until I dropped her lead and she sprinted around 10metres and skidded to a stop. The click is back but I'm really doing the most I can to support her through CM. She's on her 2nd hydro session doing amazingly. Set backs are a given just do your best! Good luck with your dog wishing him/her a speedy recovery.

Hi Steve, I keep coming watching your video all the time. I’m desperate and need advices. My French Bulldog had teared her ACL on July 1st. Her right back leg. She’s 11 years old 25pound. I went to two different vets. Both said TPLO but I don’t want to put my senior dog under anesthesia. I found a place where they do acupuncture, swimming sessions and injections in legs. I called them, they said they had healed frenchies but I’m not sure if they healed them after the surgery or without surgery. Do you think I should try this method instead of putting my baby under a risky surgery. I totally know that she will heal well after the surgery and its not even about the price or anything. Its all about my baby’s health. She’s walking like your dog on her injured leg. It happens that when she starts walking fast, she lift her leg but she can totally walk around the house like your dog. She’s very happy and even tho they say she’s in pain, it looks like she’s not. My dog would sleep all day if she’s not feeling well. But she wants to be active all the time. She feels good. I saw you posted your video two years ago. Could you please update and let me know if your dog is still doing great and what would be your advice for us 🥺 Thank you very much!

If surgery is not going to be an option than you need to do conservative management really well. Also, 25 pounds is not as big or heavy so that should help the recovery.

@stevestrike6867
@stevestrike6867 5 жыл бұрын
The shoulder injury on my dog took a couple weeks to get better, but she had the shoulder on and off for many years. Her leg injury took almost a year because I did not know how to help her heal. You could try taking your dog to the vet or taking a some video of her limping and show it here. If your dog is favoring one leg than something is going on and because dogs play rough it is hard for them to rest and heal so be careful it doesn't get worse. Fish oil is available at most stores like CVS and online too. I used a brand called Nature Made because I was already using it myself.

Hi Mr Steve Strike, my 8months old Lab is suffering from this. He got tripped a couple weeks ago and we went ti his vet, gave him pin meds but after his meds looks like it gotten worst. So i went back to his vet and they reffered me to see an Orthopedic because my dog has been diagnosed with partial ACL and that my dog needed a surgery. So I was hesitating which route I’ll be doing? But I would love to try the non surgical way, do you have any recommendations what supplements is good to take? Thank you so much..

You'll have to reduce your dogs activity so that it can heal and not become a full tear, which is probably a challenge for a puppy. I'm not an expert on supplements but I feel a healthy diet is the best. My first video on this went into much more detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXTJlGWbpdimjsk Good luck!

A trusted veterinarian can tell you if it is full a partial tear. For a full tear they mostly recommend surgery. If your dog is walking okay then he may have a partial tear that needs rest and time to heal, which is difficult for young active dog. Sometimes you just have to be very strict in your methods for reducing activity, like fencing areas off and keeping him on leash when he goes outside. An unhealed partial tear will be susceptible to a full tear in my experience.

I'm happy she did so well. I'm curious if the increased muscle mass in her right hind leg isn't because that side has gotten stronger. Perhaps the right side has normal muscle mass and the symptomatic left leg has muscle atrophy because she's not bearing as much weight on it. Our dogs can sometimes appear to bear weight on the injured side as though the leg is 100%. But if we had them walk on a force plate that actually measures multi-directional forces from one side to another, we might notice a vast difference from side to side.

My dog just turned 2 years old and he has had a partial tear in his left knee and a full tear in his right knee for about a year now. We ended up bringing him to a vet who agreed to make a "cast" of both legs and we sent the casts to a company in Pennsylvania called My Pet's Brace.. (its about 700-800 dollars per brace for a dog between 70lbs and i believe 140lbs) I've been using the brace for about 2 months on his right leg only (because you can tell how uncomfortable he is with both braces at the same time) Currently we are stuck in a fucking ice-age, so if we survive winter we are planning on traveling to Pennsylvania so they can look my dog over in person and make whatever adjustments to the braces

Thank you.

It took about a year to get to where she is in this video, but about 6-8 moths before she was consistently using the leg and not having any more significant setbacks.

How is your dog doing? My 12 y/o lab just injured his ACL (CCL). I'm weighing my options, I really don't want to put him through a surgery at his age.
@stevestrike6867
@stevestrike6867 5 жыл бұрын
There are many factors to take into consideration to make the decision. For me the non-surgical approach was okay because I had enough time to help her through the recovery. For some people surgery is better because it gets the dog back on their feet faster. If you can successfully restrict your dogs activity for the recovery to protect from further injury you can probably handle it. Good luck.

I’m in the same situation with my rescue lab mix. My dog has a heart condition and even if I wanted the surgery, it’s not an option. I do appreciate your post immensely as I will be doing the more natural method to help her. My Maisy injured herself chasing a squirrel also. Your dog looks awesome and I hope this works for my girl. I did start her last 5 days on treats with cbd for the inflammation. I also started walking her and today played 5 min with ball but I am concerned with the popping I hear when she’s on our walks. Like the other comments, your video has given me the encouragement I needed. Thank you!!!

Thank you for your sharing. My dog also have hip problem. Took her to the Vet. Had x-ray. Bone all ok and healthy. Two vet check double check yet couldn't tell what actually happen to her hip. It could be some muscle tear. They give her pain killer and advice me to let her take some glocosamine daily. Now she is in week 2 plus. Will monitor her healing till week 8 to 10 see how her progress. My dog is 8years old and is a rottweiler breed.

Can she go for good walks? My Pitbull did this in august and I haven’t gotten her surgery, she does good some days but then other days it’s like she runs too fast then she is limping again! Ugh I’m soo torn on what to do. She used to go on 3 mile walks I don’t know if she will be able to do that again. She is 11 years old but doesn’t act like it. Hmm I see your girl walking good as I’m writing this. Glad she is doing good. I’ll give it some more time.

As it was my first time dealing with this injury I did not fully understand how much activity restriction was required during the first couple of months and so I probably let my dog get too active to too soon and I had a similar experience to that what you described. For me it was like a whole year before I felt my dog could go on long walks in the hilly neighborhood. It sounds like your dog is doing a little too much too soon and her knee joint has not stabilized enough to run around.

Hi I’m going through a similar situation with m husky. He’s completely lifting his right hind leg up in the air. It’s been 4 days so far. He is putting the slightest bit of weight on it as the days go buy. Vet says it’s a possible ACL injury but he has not been X-ray yet. Is it a good idea just to give him rest for now. When your pup first hurt her leg. What did you do afterwards. Please if you can or anyone that has been in this situation respond to me as I’m very stressed atm. Thank you.

Thanks so much Steve - almost word for word my experience with my 3 year old kelpie-x Raff. Unfortunately for me I didn't come across the Tiggerpoz website until a few months after Raff's injury, hence don't think we restricted his activity as much as we should in the early stage. It's healing slowly but now I'm confused as to whether some of the strange positions he holds his leg in when resting (injured leg stretched straight out when lying down, leg flopping inwards when sitting) are a result of insufficient stability of the joint (and therefore indicating he still needs further strict restriction of activity) or caused by muscle atrophy and therefore that we should start to add in some stairs etc. Just wondering if any of this sounds familar? Really, really appreciate you making this public and so clear and encouraging too. Beautiful dog and lucky to have you! Many thanks Sam in Oz

Thanks for sharing your dog's story. This is a recent injury for my dog, Lucky - same injured leg as your dog. It's been about a month since we first brought him to the vet but they didn't give us a complete diagnosis. He was on anti-inflammatory meds as well and that seemed to do the trick, but again he is limping. I'd prefer a nonsurgical approach for right now and keeping him to restrictive activities. You noted that you used fish oil for her. What kind did you use and how would you dose it to her? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Sorry I never researched or tried the brace options because they seemed a little difficult to put on and might be uncomfortable for the dog so I would have always been putting it on and taking off. I focused on just keeping my dog's activity to minimum for many weeks and then slowly increased it.

Please give me your opinion. Is it possible to use CM on a dog with two torn back CCLs? my Golden Retriever (very big, 116 lbs, not fat) tore his back left CCL three days ago and I can tell his right one is about to go too. He was seen by an ER vet who put him on Gabapentin 600 mg. We will see his vet tomorrow and he will add an anti inflammatory, plus I just made a batch of Tumeric Golden Paste. I can’t afford surgery which I am sure he will recommend and I can’t but him down, he’s my everything. If the second one goes, I don’t know how I can get him up. How quickly might the anti-inflammatory work? Will it be enough to allow him to walk with my help. I don’t care how long his recovery takes, I just don’t want him in pain. We are a pet therapy team for the past eight years and he is so wonderful with everyone. Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.
@stevestrike6867

If you have a diagnosis already I would consider holding off another trip to the vet only because the car ride and activity may be extra stress on the other leg. But i understand the desire to get the anti inflammatories as well. Yes, the tiggerpoz website in which I got most of my information from was written by a person whose dog tore both ccl’s of a large dog so I do believe it is possible.
