That woman's reaction -"Oh, did he bite you?" followed by disinterest - shows that this has CLEARLY happened before. I've never had a pet bite anyone and would be absolutely horrified if it ever happened. The fact that she was like "ho hum" blows my mind. I hate irresponsible pet owners. Hope you are OK and it doesn't put you off our four-legged friends.

Same! I would be absolutely horrified and mortified if my dog did that. And I'd be apologizing 1500 times. And yeah, I'm sure my dog would most likely attack with doggie kisses, but you NEVER KNOW what could set even the sweetest most docile dog off. Every dog can bite.

Totally unacceptable. In the US - or at least in California where I live - she could be charged and fined and if there was a subsequent attack the dog would be euthanized. I feel (felt) your pain. I was bitten in the hand by a husky in March. Only the third time in my 70+ years life that I’ve been bitten. Twelve puncture wounds and a trip to the ER for thorough cleaning and a tetanus booster. I had an x-ray because bones can get broken when dogs bite the hand. Everything was fine. It took about 2 weeks if I remember correctly until I could discontinue applying a dressing each morning. And yes I’m impressed by your leggings!

Omg I ALSO just got attacked by a random dog five days ago! Here is what I learned if this happens to anyone else: 1. IMMEDIATELY get their phone number and name, the dog’s name, the vet. Take photos of the dog and owner and wound. 2. Get to a doctor ASAP. Dog wounds can be super dangerous for infection. 3. Follow up with animal control / local authorities. Not because you hate dogs, but because a dog that bites unprovoked WILL do it again, and next time it could be a baby or child who could be seriously hurt. This owner (and same with mine) is clearly super irresponsible, and often will only change course when forced to do so by law. The dog will likely not be put down, but will be monitored and made to wear a muzzle in future. 4. I saw mine coming and was running away to try to escape. I’ve looked up self defense for dog attacks. Short answer: Don’t run, put something between you and the dog that the dog can bite, get pepper spray and learn how to use it. I am now a pepper gel girlie! So sorry this happened to you, Ally! Please rest up and take care ❤️❤️❤️

And for people in countries with rabies, it’s really critical to get the dog’s info to check for vaccination records. If you can’t, you’ll need a full round of rabies treatment just in case, because once you start showing symptoms of rabies, it’s too late. The disease has a 100% mortality rate. Unfortunately, if the dog isn’t vaccinated against rabies, the only way to test the dog for rabies requires killing the dog. (This also applies to other animals.) So if an animal just scratched you with claws or something, don’t ask for them to be tested for rabies. (It’s spread via saliva.) I say this because I saw this post about someone who was catsitting and got a tiny accidental scratch and was asking if they should demand the cat be tested for rabies despite a vaccination. Thankfully they didn’t…but it still gave me chills. I’m pretty envious that Australia doesn’t have rabies. It scares me so bad. Not many things have a 100% mortality rate…

Dog attacks happen way more often than we actually hear about. I do not like dogs. I’ve read way too many reports about dogs that mauled and killed people, including children. I’ve witnessed two fatal cat attacks attacks on wildlife and a dog also bit my daughter as she was riding her scooter near our house. We forget that they are all descended from wolves and place way too much trust in an animal that will still have animal instincts no matter how domesticated they are. And yes I know YOUR doggo would never hurt anyone, I don’t care, they aren’t my spirit animals.

Oh god that’s so scary!!! I’m pretty scared of dogs (don’t dislike them just find them scary and avoid being around them) so I would not have been as calm as it seems you were! Glad you’re okay!!

Can you contact the store you were passing for security footage or something that could be used to identify her and her dog? She needs to be held responsible for this attack. Even though you were okay (thank God), what if that dog had gone for a toddler at the same height? Or somebody wearing shorts, even. Her reaction makes it obvious this has happened before, at least to me. I don’t want to involve the police (because of a lot of reasons, but especially because they might just decide the solution is to put down the dog or something), but I don’t know how to make sure that nobody else has to get hurt like you did. :( Of course, I’m about as scared of dogs as you are of needles, so this whole story is terrifying to me. It could have been worse, though. I’m so glad you’re okay.

I agree with your sentiments. I'm a dog owner, and this would kill my soul if my dog hurt someone like this. I also don't agree with putting a dog down, but I do think said dog should have to at least wear a muzzle out in public after biting someone.

I agree with a lot of these sentiments. I got bit my a dog I was walking 2 years ago because an off leash dog came up to her and she’s dog aggressive so I shoved my leg in front of her to move her away - did not work she bit me probably thinking it was the other dog. All that to say I have a deep fear of off leash dogs and dogs seemingly behind fences (even though that wasn’t the dog who bit me) because it was the irresponsible dog owner who let their dog get out of their yard. I tried very hard to avoid all other people will walking this dog (it was from a rescue and she was 20lb overweight) anyways, I’m so glad you are okay!

I’m so glad you’re ok!! Dog and cat bites can be so dangerous because of the bacteria in their mouths (as you clearly know) so this is really scary! I’m also a huge dog lover, but the reality is not all dogs get the chance to live a happy life. I’m so sorry this happened!!

Ouch!! Glad you're okay. This happened to my ex once, but his jeans got a hole in them!!!! So well done leggings. He was just carrying stuff from the car after a day trip and the dog just got up and bit him!! (It was the next door dog, it had been laid on the drive all week calmly watching us come and go - we were on holiday so in a holiday home). So weird why it just did that, that day!!

Gaaah, this happened to me, too! An on-leash dog just bit the back of my leg for no reason while I was out on a walk. The dog walker told the owners, who then venmod me $50 to replace my leggings but that was it. (They weren’t lulus and therefore they were destroyed.) I am so sorry, Ally! That looks gnarly.

Omg Ally, I'm so sorry that happened to you!! My fiance also just got attacked by a dog a few weeks ago! Im not usually superstitious but it was the most cursed 24 hours of our lives. We got back from a trip to Ireland with his family and the next morning they got in a car accident (totally fine thank god)! Then within an hour of us getting home our neighbor was shot and killed outside his home. The following morning my fiance was talking to our other neighbor about what happened and his former police dog escaped his lead and mauled my fiance! Was truly terrifying even though it was very brief, he had puncture wounds and major bruising all over his arm, shoulder and back, but thankfully no infection or anything. The psychological trauma from that experience is intense, as well as the guilt in deciding how to respond and report the incident. Especially as a dog lover. I hope you're feeling better mentally and physically!!

Omg, I'm so sorry this happened to you!!!! It looks painful as hell, I hope you heal soon! x Unfortunately anything can trigger a dog if it has history, even smells, colors, locations, sounds. Or also it might have just been trigger stacked from a bunch of things, or even have just felt unwell that day. I have a dog that will attack feet if they walk too near to her, due to her being from a kill shelter and being trapped and kicked by men with boots on. It's not the dog's fault, but it is definitely on the owner if she is aware it's a thing!

Omggg. I was recently attacked by a puppy, too. We were watching two dogs and one was a puppy, and one was a fully grown dog. Me and my mom were going to be watching these dogs for a week. And on the second day, I was filming a video and my phone fell. The puppy tried to like, eat my phone lol. So when I grabbed it, I grabbed my leg. It felt like 6 thick needles going into my skin. Luckily, when we went to urgent care I just needed them to clean it and give us a cream and medicine. I didn’t have to get a rabies shot or any shot. (Since the dog had its own rabies show recently) But that’s my story time! I’m still healing but I hope you feel better, too. (To Ally if you are reading this lol ❤❤)

A couple years ago, my 3 year old cousin at the time was playing with a rescue dog that we knew for a long time. The dog was beated before so it had some truama. My cousin was playing with the dog and she touched his tail which triggered him and bit her on the side of her face. My uncle, cousins, siblings and I were all right next to her and watching her, but it happened so quickly that we looked away for a second, we heard crying and saw the dog grabbing her face. It was terrifying to see and 911 came. A little bit of skin was taken out and she still has the scar today. Honestly, after that experience, I still love dogs and want one, but I'm much more skeptical about strangers dogs and I keep my distance from them. If I meet a new dog, I try to come of as not threatening and being careful. I'm glad this experience didn't change your mind about dogs and that you're ok!

My dog is small but he bit someone once. He is so sweet but he’s protective of me. We were walking and a man RAN up on us from behind - not like a jogger running by, I mean he ran up on me, his body facing my back. I still don’t know why he did that, I don’t know if it was sinister or somehow innocent but he startled both of us and was close enough to me that my dog could reach him while being kept close enough on the leash to be right by my side. It happened so fast but my dog left what the cop described as “a paper cut” on his hand 😅 from jumping up and biting his hand, he didn’t latch, just did a jump attach bite… like I said, my dog is only 20 lbs. The guy booked it so fast I didn’t even talk to him then called the police once he was around the corner who came out with animal control. My dog was quarantined in home for 10 days bc of rabies laws (if they are vaccinated they can do home quarantine to watch for symptoms, otherwise they’ll be taken). The fact that this was a completely unprovoked BAD bite and this woman got away scot free is INFURIATING to me. Being bit by a dog can be so traumatizing too, I was actually bitten once also - a dog jumped up to attack me and the bite was on my chest/top of boob area weirdly enough. Not as bad as yours but the bruise and cut was gnarly. I’m so sorry Ally.

That lady was an INCREDIBLY irresponsible dog owner. In the US if a dog bites you it is grounds to have the animal put down (which I don’t think you would want) but it poses a risk to others and that bite looks so painful! Glad you’re okay Ally and you honestly have the most positive outlook on life that we can all learn from!❤

Keep an eye on the wound! Mine ended up getting infected, and I was hospitalised for a few days while I waited for an operation to clean out the wound😢

@AllySheehan I got the tetanus shot, but they apparently forgot to hand me the antibiotics. It was A&E, though, so I was unsurprisingly the least of their worries. Its still really annoying, as this is why my hand got infected two days later 😂 If I had to have been given them on the day, it would have saved me a four day stay in hospital, one operation and about 2+ weeks on antibiotics.

Idk if it’s different in Australia, but in the US dog need to be registered and bites must be reported. There is some sort of strike policy (idk how it works exactly as it’s different from state to state.) if a dog bites someone the owner is responsible for medical bills, they may be fined and the dog may be euthanized… these are just some of the legal outcomes of dog bites in the US. There are various others as well but it’s a lot to type. Lol
