Poor Gizmo. What a horrible thing to happen. I hope Gizmo goes on to lead a long, happy life with Irene. I cannot imagine the terror that lady felt when her little dog was being attacked. It doesn't say if the attacking dog was with an owner or if it was running wild on it's own. If it was with an owner, I hope the owner is prosecuted for allowing a dog to get dangerously out of control and is made to pay for Gizmo's treatment.

They are tough little dogs. Ours had 6 thoracic disc disintegrate and she never let anyone know she had pain. She was still running, refused to use her stairs to get onto the couch and was playing with the cat. We didn't know until we xrayed her for another issue she had anything wrong with her back. The Vet couldn't understand how she could walk.

@@Lauren-vd4qe Would have but the fella who owned the dog lied about his name and gave me a wrong phone number. I had to get my little girl to the vet so I was pretty distracted. We didn’t have cell phones to take photos back then and the laws around pit bulls didn’t exist. I knew where the guy worked (a construction company) but his boss hung up on me when I called him to find out who this guy was. I used to drive to construction sites looking for him but no luck.

What a situation to have to go through! For future reference, look for witnesses and call the police. Then report him to animal control. Personally, I would wait around for his car registration number. It's always been the easiest way to trace someone and we've had vehicle recognition devices for over 20 years. The police would have followed up with his boss.

I am sorry that he had to lose his ear, even if it was for the best. Also, I hope that the owner of the dog that attacked Gizmo was held responsible! A greyhound attacked my Cavvie puppy and nearly killed her. Her jaw was broken, with a part actually missing, and she had to have a graft from her hip. She spent 6 weeks at the Cambridge University vet hospital, with her jaw wired and braced, and a feeding tube in her neck. She healed thanks to the dedicated skill of those vets, but her jaw was always misaligned. She only lived for 8 years and I will always wonder if the attack as a puppy shortened her life. If you have a little dog, always try to be aware of the danger of bigger dogs. Thank God Gizmo has survived and that his mum still has her darling Earth Angel.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Watching this reminds me of the day my Patterdale was playing with her friend when their game turned into ww3. My girl ended up needing emergency surgery on her neck. She had to have 250 stitches her throat and chest! The other dog was also damaged, but being a newfoundland, her damage was much less. After she got back to herself i noticed my girl was afraid of her old friend & other large dogs. It didn't surprise me. I was so thankful for all the promt action by my vets & their team. Without them I wouldn't have my girl today ❤ thank you for all that you do ❤❤❤❤❤

Little dogs like that are red meat to certain dogs with a strong prey instinct. They see a little dog like that running around and their mind goes to squirrel! Keep your small dog on the leash close to you and do not leave them outside alone. A few years age I was walking my Shih Tzu and a person opened their front door. Their dog ran out and latched onto my dog. I had just gotten home from work and still had my purse with me so I began hitting that dog with the purse. Unbelievably, the dog’s owner began yelling at me to stop hitting his dog who had my dog in its mouth! People are crazy. Animals are innocent. Usually people like that have enjoyed teaching their dog to be aggressive. However, there are certain types of dogs that are just born with a strong prey instinct and if they are off lead they can be a threat to a small dog even if they have always been a friendly pet. A cat sometimes will not run and will fight back but a small dog does not have a chance. Be your small dog’s constant protector.

I’m glad Gizmo came out of surgery in good shape. What an excellent surgeon and staff, loving owner to care for Gizmo post operatively and Gizmo will go on with life joyfully. Was Gizmo attacked in the park or on a walk? Shocking what shaking can do to a dog. I hope mentally he will be okay and recover. My mom had a dog years ago who grabbed a little dog and shook him. He wasn’t punctured anywhere or injured but I was never the same after that. I stayed away from little dogs when walking him. What is strange is that he liked little dogs and all dogs. I don’t know if he looked like prey, that is what people told me it must have been. My mom’s dog was so loving that the situation was shocking. The dog wasn’t on a leash and was ahead of its owners. Two little girls. The other little girl had her dog on a l leash that was 4-7 feet 🦶 in front of her. I had my mom’s dog right at my side but he all of the sudden had the most incredible strength and leapt and his head came out of his collar. I’m grateful the little girl’s dog wasn’t injured and they were gracious towards me. I apologized of course: I couldn’t be a get just now nurse 👩⚕️ or get tech because I would want to play with the dogs 🐕 and would cry too too much and would be hateful to owners who were awful to their pups. I couldn’t be a get because I am afraid of snakes and various things that come through the doors as well as other critters, some of the stink/poo Good luck 🍀 Gizmo as you heal your little eardrum.

The whole time I kept thinking about the dog who perpetrated the attack and hope that in the least he's muzzled/leashed, etc. My chocolate lab got attacked while we were walking- her attacker was not on a leash 😑Hearing my dog is screeching in pain was horrifying! So I can totally empathize with Gizmo's mom. I actually ended up breaking my foot trying to protect my dog, was on a knee scooter for 10 months! I think our fur babies get over it much easier than we do.

I lost one of my dogs to an attack by a German Shepherd. I was walking my dogs, on leads down the street to the post box. Suddenly a large German Shepherd came charging from a house and ran on a diagonal toward us. I remember his ears being flattened and his teeth bared. In a flash he was on us and had grabbed my small chihuahua cross by the back and made off with him in his mouth. My screams brought out a neighbour who had to literally attack the Shepherd to make him drop my dog Brig! Brig raced home and I found him cowering under the house. I got him out and raced him to the vet but I already knew it was a lost cause. Brig’s chest had been crushed, multiple ribs broken, air hissing out of open wounds. The vet sedated him of course and I was able to say goodbye. It was a terrible experience but doubly worse for me as I was attacked at 3 by a Shepherd who grabbed me by the back of the head ripping my scalp off and all that trauma came flooding back. I am glad that Gizmo survived😮
