Great video! Thanks for this. At night, sometimes my dog will go from sleeping/chilling calmly to hyper-aroused, whimpering and running to look out the glass back door or sniff under the front door. She'll get whale eyes and pace until I get her attention and coax her back into calmness. Sometimes if I just move too quickly on the couch, she'll snap into this mode. We have a cat who she has chased in the past and gets super excited around, so we have largely kept them separate unless I'm training her to be calmer around him. As you were talking about the threat being present or not, I realized I didn't know what she was reacting to when she was running to the door. We thought it was either her reflection, or hearing chipmunks or squirrels outside or something. But do you think its possible that, in those moments, she is thinking about the cat since he's the only thing actually inside the house with her?

It's hard to say for sure with just this comment. But I do think it's something worth investigating. Is your dog a herding breed by chance?

@@getacalmdog We didn't realize it when we rescued her, but we think she is part terrier. We tried putting up frosted window film on the glass door so she couldn't see her reflection, and that's helped a lot. She's getting better with the cat but still is very excited by him. We just got a Treat & Train (Manners Minder) dispenser and I think I'm going to use that with the cat once she can do a long down-stay with distractions. Have you used one? What do you think of them? Any tips on using one in a multi-dog house?
