I can cut off the heater and he keeps me warm at night. They find one human and will stay with that one human to the end.

Yep. And if you have a 100 lb German Shepherd along with the little doxie, you have a doorbell AND home security system. My big guy doesn't bark, but when he stares at a stranger through the front bay window, it is highly unlikely the stranger will try to get in. Our doxie lets us know if someone is there, tho.

I have rescued 2 Doxies. Both are 8 yrs old . One is a long hair Black and Tan and a shorthair red. One sleeps on my right and the other on my left. Enjoyed video very much. And let me tell you when someone comes to the door they go from Doxies to Dobies in 2.5. 😂

My first Dachshund was a great wild boar hunter. He never engaged a boar face to face which could have been a letal attempt for him. He always came from behind and got on the boar`s nerves and made them leave the thick undergrowth where the pigs hid so I could shoot. I never had a better hunting companion. Every time I went hunting he was with me until he passed away at the age of 16 and half a year. Should I ever get to heaven (which I doubt) and he should not be there waggin his tail I would not want to get there

@@nickeyfynn3270 Dachshunds are hunting dogs with a natural urge to hunt. I dragged the stomach of a deer through our garden and let the puppy sniff the trace to the end. When the dog found the "prey" I gave him a treat which I had cut from that stomach. I made it more difficult by the time, making the trace longer and waited longer to put the dog on the trail. When the dog was two years old I sent him into the thickets where I expected hogs. The dog learns that it is no good idea to charge face to face. Here in Germany we have kind of domesticated wild boars in corrals where we can watch how the dog works.

Dachshunds are fantastic. They’re so silly, smart and stubborn is the #1. In my humble knowledge (I’ve had three), please watch their backs (teach kids not used to the breed right away how to pick them up- or don’t pick them up at all), brush their teeth, crate them (especially for potty training) and keep them socialized. They will outsmart you, so be watchful! I love them so much and most importantly- please be mindful of where they come from. These dogs are common in puppy mills. My current ladies were both “Mommas” in a mill. I took them gladly when I figured out what was happening to them. They have bad teeth from zero dental care and mammary tumors that are under the constant watch of the Vet. They are the end result of people not caring where their pups come from. So please, for Lulu and Kisses’ sake, get your puppy from a responsible breeder. ❤️

Both my dachshunds have come from sue and her husband and although I've lost my eldest 7 months ago at 14 years we still keep in touch and meet up for walks. Sue is amazing with her knowledge, guidance and training, grooming tips etc. The best thing I liked about them was they questioned me thoroughly before allowing me one of their pups!! It goes to show she is responsible breeder. And all her dogs now are champions 😊😊😊

Dachshunds are the nicest and most personable dogs around. I have had five dachshunds, the first dachshund I had drowned while hunting, only three years old. One of the dachshunds I took over when she was four years old but she was sick so she didn't live more than seven years. Number two of the dachshunds turned 14 year, the next dachshund turned 15 year and the last dachshund I had turned almost 16 years, in the space of three weeks. So if you want a life partner, the dachshund is absolutely perfect, it goes with you everywhere, but you have to have a sense of humor to have a dachshund, because they have plenty of that❤

Re: cats - When I got married, my wife brought her cat (a Russian Blue), and he became best friends with my standard wire-haired dachshund! They were both around 7 years old. We kept them apart for a while, and then we gradually let them get together. My dog was ready to be best friends from the start, but we gave her cat plenty of space and time to get comfortable.

I would add to always keep pet insurance. Get it when they are a puppy and never let it lapse. Back surgeries are VERY expensive. Do not let them jump off things. Provide ramps.

First thing you should do when you get your Doxie is disconnect the doorbell. LOL It sets them off and they don't stop barking. They will also take over your bed, we have a Mini sort haired Red and he sleeps right next to my Wife's butt.

Have 2 Doxies although the other one passed away last year November due to old age. She was twelve when she passed away. But I still have Mamou my 2nd Doxie. Like Yumi my old one, she is also loyal, an actress, demanding for caresses on their chest and always wants to be by your side. Like yumi, when I will leave her and come back after 2 or 3 hours she will cry relentlessly. No cons about this breed.

Dachsunds are my favorite bred they are awesome . The sweet little black and tans are my favorite. I have loved them since I was a child. I have a black and tan in my life named Henry that belongs to my daughter and he is a joy. He looks quite a bit like Crusoe. I currently have a mix from the point that appears to be mixed with a pug. He is a joy and he hunts mice like a pro. I had one who was a wonderful friend for 16 years. His name was Ziggy he was red a little bigger than a mini that was husky muscular litlle rascal that was very smart and was easily trained even though he had a bit of a wilful side he loved to bark abd I only heard him howl once before he passed away. We both howled together in grief of being separated by his passing that he and I both knew was imminent.. .

While I have a wirehaired dachshund + silky(maybe yorki) terrier mix, I found at least some similarities here. For the most part it seems like I'll have to stick to the terrier side of him for keeping him happy and healthy though. This dog has visited us with his old owner and sat on my couch one day and he never left. Now he occupies my side of the bed, regardless of me being there or not.

My girlfriends old roommate had the worst daxons I’ve ever seen. Just terrible dogs. But I attribute that to the owner. I’m sure the dogs could have been trained properly if the owner was inclined, but leaving them home alone all day, little to no exercise, and giving them their way when they beg had produced some pretty terrible dogs. My dachshunds love to dig pillows. And they have the loudest bark ever. You would think that it’s a big dog barking. And yes, they hate small animals/insects. They would kill them. My dachshunds didn’t grew up with a cat. And I wanted one but all I can do for now is to feed the strays outside. Can’t adopt one because they would kill them for sure.

There are ramps and steps for small dogs (rabbits and other small pets) that need help getting on and off furniture and beds. I don’t particularly agree with breeding dachshunds with extremely long bodies and legs that as too short. I have a red male who’s legs are so short his chest nearly hits the floor.

You could get a standard wire haired of pets4homes however miniature WH tend to have a higher price of at least 1300

I think it would classify as standard, but it has to do with the pedigree really. They are two separate lines of the breed. If your dog's parents were of the standard variety then their offspring will be standard as well, unless it carries a mutation that result in a different size. Professional breeding is all about selecting healthy dogs with the right traits to keep the breed within set standards for the race, while at the same time keeping a healthy gene pool. My dachshund was 12 kg's with no excess fat and would probably been considered a bit too large for the breed.

You mentioned standard and mini. Is tweenie a made up size due to breeding a mini with a standard? My smooth red female is 21 lbs. When I gofnher at 10 wks old, I was told me she was a mini, but as she grew up, I knew she was bigger than the minis I had seen. So I just assumed she was a standard, until I saw a standard in real life and I knew she also wasn't a standard. What is a healthy weight for these mystery non-mini-non-standard doxies ??

As a Dachshund breeder, I’m saddened to hear another breeder give out wrong information. The Standard Wirehairs, that are featured in the video, are not Brindle. Their color is Wild Boar. Wires and Smooths come in this color. Also, Dachshunds are 1 breed, that come in 2 sizes (Standard and Miniature) and come in 3 coat varieties (Longhair, Smooth and Wirehair). They also come in many coat colors and patterns.
