Earlier than memory my parents bred 3 generations of English Mastiffs. Rode them about played with them constantly. The cats and sheltie and westie all got along as in the Garden of Eden. From cradle to college I had no better companions. Beautiful and instructive video. The big guys and gals kept the parents young well into their 70s. Thank you for the invocation of memory!

Our first English Mastiff lived to be 14.5 years old passing away January 2023. She was a beauty and an amazing girl! We miss her so much. we now have a year old puppy and she is such a cutie! We will never be without an English Mastiff!

We just adopted a mastiff/shepherd mix from our local shelter. The more I look into it, he got his personality from the mastiff side, and all the shepherd did was make him smaller and less drooly. I don't think I'll ever want a different type of dog, the way he interacts with us is my definition of the perfect dog.

We added a Mastiff to our family recently. He will be 5 months next week, and is losing his puppy teeth! He a lighter brindle with the most stunning striping. I absolutely love him to itty bitty pieces. He is incredibly well tempered and loving with everyone, and we are socializing him a ton and doing a lot of dog training, so hopefully he will continue to be a well adjusted angel when he is older. I cannot wait to see who he blossoms into. I love seeing your dogs in this video! And it is true about the slobber, it is a LOT, hahahaha. He can already shake his head and hit the ceiling.

I have an English mastiff. He is very protective over the family and very loyal. He is also very sweet and lazy, and really lazy now since he is 9 years old. He is the best dog we have ever owned, and because of him I always want one. But he is one of those once-in-a-lifetime dog. I don't think I'll ever own a better dog.

My husband and I have a rescued Brindle Mastiff. He is a boy and a big baby. We also have 2 rescued Boxer dogs. They are female. My husband teases Duke and says, Duke we are out numbered. 2 boys and 3 girls. Let's go out and leave them to their girlie business. We men have boy things to do. Our Duke is so special and we love him so much.

I’m a dog person. I recently acquired a English Mastiff quite by accident. My son ran across a fellow from across the state on Facebook that had taken ill and was no longer able to care two Mastiffs. My son said he would take them in and find a good home for them. Well guess who ended up taking one in. He is five years old and very loving to me, even after a short period of a week or so. I’ve had a Rottie before; just not a dog of such a massive size. As I type this he is no more than three away from me. Where I go, he goes with me. But that’s the kind of dog I like. He’s a real people magnet 🧲 whenever we’re out and about. Everything you guys said is super accurate about the breed. I guess I got lucky, he rarely drools other than when he’s finished drinking or staring longingly at my supper. 😎🇺🇸

As a professor of Ancient BC Briton culture, I can assure you that your Mastiff history is very wide of the mark. This breed has a chronical history from the time of Caesar, when the Celt's used them as wardogs to support fighting his legions. This is why the correct name of this breed is the Old English Mastiff, which in more modern times has been shortened to Mastiff. I do not like to criticise the work of others, but I felt that a correction needed to be made. I do own a Mastiff myself, which is why I came across this video, but they certainly were not bred as generic guard dogs, but did develop into these roles through time

There is nothing like a Mastiff!! They are incredibly smart & deeply loving. They don’t ask for much except your love & they cherish every moment with the people they love. Must be sure to socialize them!! They are a joy!! it lovely to see them greet a friend or extended family member they haven’t seen in over a year or two!! Their intelligence is humbling to behold!! They absolutely must have loving presence of the humans they love... they can pine away if separated from the people they love. Teaching & training becomes easy when you realize they’re motivated by love. Love them from earliest puppyhood; as you train them you will see how quickly they prize your love!! Tell them how proud you are of them what a good girl/boy they are & how much you love them. Many stubborn or ill mannered Mastiffs often are the pets of people who train via fear & domination. Mastiffs Do Not respond to this & this tactic most often ends badly... Their ability to understand your words & follow complex instructions is amazing. They feel very deeply & are truly the dearest pal any human would be honored to have. All dogs are a tremendous gift to us, (human beings) in so very many ways!! They deserve our kindness & our love!! Our sweet girl will turn six next month ( August 19th) and our entire family loves her with all our hearts ( my eyes are tearing up just typing this) I 🙏 she is with us, happy & healthy, to eleven years old at least 💖!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a mastiff/Shepard mix but he looked pure bull mastiff. His name was moose but i called him knucklehead. Well for a year, that puppy went from the yelping pup I forbid my daughter to being in my house, to the love of my life, best friend. He was a fantastic protector and loved his people...but only his people/family. Unfortunately he was protecting his fur brother when he lost his life to a hit and run. Everything I do reminds me of that amazing knucklehead. For months I cried randomly then set out to get another mastiff, this time English and purebred. I travelled nearly 700 miles and found myself at a farm viewing 2 unhealthy pups (puppymill) as much as I am anti puppymill...how could 8 leave without taking one of those pior guys away. I picked the sickest one who was also ridden with worms and carrying 7 lbs of bloat pounds. Well four weeks later hes healthy, happy, and loves life (he also loves hoodies)

"once you had a mastiff you don't want anything else" Ehmm, my parents lost their bullmastiff. Not even a year after they're getting a new one. All the other dogs before that has been random as hell, but they really, really want that mastiff temper. It's one of those types of dogs you just keep around for life. So sweet, so good natured, you can't help but love them.

I had one and I loved her. She weighed 212 at most; there's one in the UK that weighs over 300, and is still healthy. Mine, Tinkerbell, was a real slob, and it was just another day at the office with her. I'm 71, but would take another one anyday of the week. She was my favorite; I was going to spank my yougest kid, (that was a long time ago); she stepped in between us, & I suddenly didn't care about disciplining the kid anymore, (neither did he) and I realized I had the right dog, not only for myself, but also for the family. Of course he was a problem child later, because he never got disciplined anymore, but he's slowly straightening out. One night about 2:30 AM, I woke up to her right in my face; she must have had a need to smell some garbage breath, so she traced the stench up the stairs, and found it at my face, drool all over my face, mouth wide open, and she was enjoying my garbage breath. I've had a lot of dogs, but Tinkerbell was and still is my favorite. Thank you.

Your big male looks like a twin to My male Spartacus. He is 205 last weighed and 12 years old. You are so correct on the doges behavior, and how the are so good protectors. I have never had a dog I loved so much. I bought a caravan due to the seats that fold in to the floor, and back sliding door that has roll down windows. Course Spartacus loves shotgun. Best dogs I ever owned. Hopefully have many years left.

Do you have any advice that you could share? My fiancee has a pair of English Mastiffs and I miss them so much. I know they scam me for dog treats when I visit but I don't care. They have a rope toy sized for a medium-sized dog that I sent them over a year ago and it's still alive. They're both fairly protective of it but the younger one gets VERY upset when her big bro starts playing too rough with it. They sleep with it sometimes and one of them usually brings it to show off when we're talking on videochat. The older one will deliberately move into camera range and sulk at me because he can hear me and see me but I'm not there to give belly rubs. I can't wait to move over and be with my family, slobber and snores and all.

Will @ The Fenrir Canine Show channel. Imo, quite possibly the best, kindest, most humble, rounded, & experienced (owned BM's/getting new EM pup) & professional dog trainer on KZbin. He 'specialises' in Mastiff/Giant/Guardian dogs, & has a 'Perfect Puppy' course that I know from personal experience (a friend has the most wonderful, happy, confident & well-mannered adolescent Bullmastiff pup imaginable because of it!) works like a genuine treat. Check his videos just to get a flavour, but believe me, you'll be very happy you did. Peace.

Bullmastiff is a cross between an English Mastiff and a Bulldog, these ones are pure English Mastiff, one of the oldest breeds alive and were even used against the Roman invaders around 2000 years ago. I would expect to be feeding a fully grown one up to a kg of food a day.

I don't understand white caucasian people...in my country if you have a dog u expect it to bark at strangers. Especially if your home is fenced . But in Europe and America the emphasis seems to be on the dog being accommodating to strangers friends and family. Such a waste of soo much potential in a large dog that can be very effective in what dogs do best. Ward off strangers. And if needs be attack them fearlessly until the owner restrains them or calls them off. If people want large pets that are just cuddly and nice they should look at getting something else that doesn't have four long canine teeth.
