Thank you for the education you're providing to us. For our dog's first eight years, I fell for the marketing. I did not understand the nutrition. Recently, we realized we had to make another food change for Grace which led us to providentially finding you. We confidently made phone calls, sent emails, and chatted with reps. Using the numbers as you've taught us, we made an informed decision on our latest food choice. We are happy to report our 8-year-old Grace is doing well and loves her new food. My husband and I are pleased with the extra $$$ savings. Thank you!

I like your puzzles!! This is a huge brand in Canada, thanks for the review. They sell cat food as well. Interestingly, certain pet food stores market here that they sell Canadian pet food only because we have higher standards for food in Canada. It seems like a bunch of dog poo to me. You might be interested to review Smack as well. They charge $110 for 25 cups of food, claiming it's all air dried raw, organic etc. I was feeding it to my dog before Science Diet, but it kept making him sick. The company has fabulous customer service though, they reimbursed my $120 without having to return the food. We live about 7 hours away from Banff,. Canmore to me, is even better, way less people and high-end marketing materialism.

We did Jasper and Banff. Glacier National Park is smaller than Banff but pretty darn spectacular. Yellowstone is still my favorite since I lived and worked there. You Canadians don’t have a park line Arches in Utah. One of our favorites, like another world.

Someone online told me they feed their cat Royal Canin kibble because their veterinarian recommended it. I mentioned several studies about dry food and other negatives about RC. His reply was, "I give my vet thousands of dollars a month, if I didn't listen to him I'd be some type of fool." Some people don't recognize irony.

Except for sodium, the Now Fresh for adult cats is lower in protein, calcium and phosphorus than the senior food. "And Canadians do it backwards, which is absolutely frightening!" with apologies to Prof. Henry Higgins. LOL

Using adult, grain free cat food, dry matter basis: According to the nutrient profiles on the websites, "Now" is below AAFCO maximum guidelines for protein, calcium, phosphorus and sodium. "Go" exceeds all of them. Except for phosphorus, you indicate the opposite. "Go" is about 50 cents a pound cheaper. I knew you were trouble when you walked in! LOL

I think I’m going to go with the Go! Salmon and rice. I don’t mind a bit lower protein as I will be mixing in a freeze dried topper from Instinct Dog Food. I like the limited ingredients in Go! for my allergy prone spaniel.

Well I would really limit the topper since the Go is already balanced. The protein is more than enough. There is no benefit to high protein, just marketing.

I will be careful! I am replacing some of the food with the topper…maybe 1/4 of a cup topper after leaving out 1/4 cup of food…maybe even less than that…just want the variety of organ meats in a bit of the food. This is for a 3 month old pup.

I keep watching these videos but never get an answer as to which dog food is the best? Which do you feed? I was going to switch to Nom, Farmers, or Ollie, but you didn’t seem to love any of those options. I’m currently feeding “Instinct, Raw Longevity” (frozen) which isn’t available online, only sold in select stores (no big box) and is supposed to be a leader in the premier pet foods, backed by years and years of research, made in the us, formulated by vets, bla bla bla. Best of the best, yet I’ve never seen a single review. Would love to know your thoughts!

Sorry for the delay! As Ed said, I did do a video on what I feed. I try to not tell anyone feed this, don’t feed that. Nutrition is pretty simple if we discuss nutrients instead of all the marketing but it’s hard to do. My main purpose of my videos is to educate caring pet parents on the marketing tricks and help them make their own choices…. And not spend a fortune!

I am so disappointed in the nutrients levels of the Go Solution Skin and Coat care line because this is the food I used to give my Cocker Spaniel and his coat was very shiny and his eye tears didn't stain his white face anymore. Before being on the Go Solution, he was on Open Farm and he had terrible stains but they went away after I put him on Go. I have switched him to SD since September and I am now starting to notice stains under his eyes that have started to come back. Is there something in the SD food that causes that???

Christine, I honestly don’t know about the tearing. I have two small whites dogs and they periodically have tear stains but have been on the same food for years.

@@PetFoodPuzzleGuy Thank you for your feedback, Glenn. It's just that some people say that tearing could depend on the food due to a certain enzyme, but even my vet could not confirm that, so go figure! I appreciate your input as always!

Does the volume of poop mean anything in determining the quality of the dog food or the digestibility of the diet? I just switched my dog from Pro Plan to Science Diet (from following this channel) and she is pooping WAY more. They are solid, but it is quite a bit more at each movement.

I would think the energy density of the food would determine a bit less or more stool. Also the food higher in fiber would produce more stool.

I watch a bit of rachel fusaro who claims that any kibble is a dis- service to any pet. So, Im trying to get away from kibble but not sure if I can afford to buy subscribed fresh food, Any advice?

Most homemade/raw results are anecdotal. An NIH survey found that 60% of pet owners feed at least some homemade food, six percent of cat owners feed homemade all the time. All pets are different and will have different results. I started feeding my cats mostly homemade when one of them got sick. They also get some wet food that is low in phosphorus and calcium. A friend has a dog that has all kinds of allergies and problems. The dog gets a mix of kibble and frozen fresh food. He has to take several medicines and goes to the vet about once a month. If it makes you feel any better, I was feeding the fresh food to all 3 of my pets and when I switched to Science Diet kibble they all started to have better health. I was convinced I was doing the right thing before, but I ended up taking my dog to the vet and she recommended kibble. At first, I felt so guilty, I felt like I was hating on my dog, but the vet was right, it worked! I find Rachel way too pushy and is so fixated on her raw diets that she would be completely unwilling to ever hear anyting but her own narrative and those that back her up.
