Dogbane- one of the best wild fiber plants!

Dogbane is also known as Indian Hemp, due to the strong fibers it grows as how useful they are for corsage and other fiber arts. Her is an impromptu introduction to it- i couldn't hike past it without stopping to introduce it!

I made a dogbane bracelet like 25 years ago and still have it. It’s tied to a stone as part of a bow and spindle fire starting kit.

On the show you used a vertical baffle sleeping bag and I was wondering if you would be kind enough to mention it's make and model as I am in search of one. Also, your personality shined so nicely in your episodes, I hope that you will go on to make a spectacular show for the millions. Perhaps Woniya's Chest Thumping All Gal Wilderness Adventure! You could emphasize the importance of living in community as apposed to going it alone. Best.

Yes they are, though botanists are changing things all the time and it's hard to keep up! I should have said they are in the same family, not genus! Both in the Apocynaceae family , though one time (when i was in school for botany!) milkweed was considered to be in the Asclepidacaea family, not Apocynaceae, and they weren't considered as closely related as they are now.

It would be really nice to have a close up longer than 2 seconds of the actual leaves So I can identify it if I ever see i. Nice video but I would like to see the leaves and have you described if they're serrated on the edges, the pattern of the veins etc.

I have a couple patches of something like that on my property. I'm in western north carolina though so perhaps a different species. I haven't been able to key it out.

A friend of mine from North Carolina just commented on a different post of this plant from today that he has it in his yard so it sounds like it is possible it's what you've got too!

@@BuckskinRevolution I grew up in a part of Ontario Canada that I learned later was classed as a 'Carolinian Environment'. Had the same plant, never heard of 'Dogsbane' but we would all call it 'Indian Hemp'.
