Dogdyke steam powered pumping station started work draining water from the fenlands in 1856 and is still operated 'in steam' on certain weekends in the Spring, Summer and Autumn. The general public can visit the station to see how the station used to work in the past. It has a single steam powered Beam Engine which drives a scoop wheel to move the water. Details of how to get there and when the station is open can be found at www.dogdyke.com.
This short extract is from a 20 minute piece about Dogdyke on a new DVD by Avalon Video about steam powered pumping stations with over 100 minutes of content.
