I always train too long until my dog lost interest and walk away. And I blamed my dog for low concentration and ADHD. Your vedio helps a lot. ❤

I'm so glad this was helpful! Dogs definitely have short attention spans when you first start training. But you can actually build their attention span by ending the session when they still have "gas in the tank". This makes them *want* to train for longer! Happy Training!

Unsolicited commentary- 1:00 I love that Laura is such a good trainer that she can basically un-train Jake to show us what she means 1:19 you can see that the dog looks down between their legs before the treat even gets there 1:39 encouraging what you want instead of only reacting to undesirable behavior is how I work well with my toddler nephew 😂 I need to apply this better in a my dog training (plus managing) 2:25 Laura said doodoo!! 🤭 fun tip: the headphones hole in my compact crossover backpack that I take dog training works excellent as a poop bag dispenser :) 5:10 Belgian Malinois! 5:56 treating from behind 🤔 📝 7:50 access to a professional service dog trainer for “half the cost of a latte” 😂 good way to put it. Incredible opportunity 13:25 our dog wants to scroll on a tree. 😂 I thought I understood this concept until Laura put it that way. Makes so much sense and totally not fair! So thankful for these videos!

These were some really good tips, I like the way you explain them. Do you have any suggestions for helping desensitize dogs to loud noises
@Local_gremlin2009
@Local_gremlin2009 11 ай бұрын
Maybe get a KZbin video playing of any loud sound and get your dog into a heel or sit and try and reinforce with treats. Try and get your dog to focus on you as they’l associate this loud sound with being something good not scary. Idk I’m not a trainer. I’m a minor researching to get a service (assistance) dog in the next year or so.

This helps when you have to change commands...Horse had park instead of sit, easy instead of lie down, here not come...i did this because we got.yelĺed at in the city by a group of kids, ìt çonfused him, and I didn't like it at all. They were a group of kids, i couldn't blame them for it, sò to save my dog and me from such a horrible hard time, I changed his basic commands and it worked foŕ us!

I probably struggle most with finding ways to split up tasks/commands into small steps. Especially because I experience a lot of brain fog. I am able to train if it is already something I learned or researched, but I struggle adjusting in the moment. I also try filming as much as possible, because it helps me look at my dogs reactions better
@DoggyU

Filming is such a great option! Also, remember, in the moment, there's nothing wrong with doing a cookie scatter in a snuffle mat and giving yourself time to think it through and adjust after a minute or two if that's helpful for you.

Thanks ❤ It's a little tough since my brain fog goes for days and since she is a Border Collie Mix and I am under financial pressure to get her reactivity under control I find it difficult not to train if that makes sense. Especially since I have my older service dog to think about as well

I typically use kibble to keep rewards low calorie and plentiful but then I’ll use high value treats (typically something wet instead of dry) for training newer, more complicated, or scarier things. not sure if it’s the perfect thing to do but it seems to work well for us 🤷‍♀️

Hello, I loved the video, I love your content. Im a dog trainer. Been doing it for the last 5 years so I'm still a noob ;-). I also went to the TomRose School and learned a lot. I would love to ask some professional questions and see if it's possible to get in contact with you. Is that possible? If not, I still love your Vids and Thanks for what you do.

I was wondering if you had any advice on working through sound sensitivity with a service dog
@DoggyU
@DoggyU Жыл бұрын
Sound sensitivity is difficult and can often be genetic. I would get a trainer on board as soon as possible to assess the situation and see what plan might work for your particular dog.

@@DoggyU I have been working with a trainer from the school where I got my dog he basically just said to expose her into use high-value treats but I want to be more concrete. Do you know any service dog trainers that specialize in sound sensitivity

@@asecretcourtofcrowsandcloc4084 I tried to think of someone to refer you to but I don't have anyone specifically. I don't think you necessarily need a service dog trainer here, just a trainer well-versed in positive reinforcement training and behavior modification. I might look for a CBCC-KA in your area: www.ccpdt.org/dog-owners/certified-dog-trainer-directory/

What should I expect from my dogs on a walk? Presently, I allow them to walk as far behind or as much ahead as their 5’ leashes allow as long as they don’t pull. If they want to stop and sniff something, I expect them to sit until I say, “Sniffies”. I haven’t learned this anywhere and wonder if I’m being too permissive in the first instance and too harsh in the second instance. What do you think? Do you have a segment that deals with walking? BTW, I’m glad I found your site. I like your presentation more than others.

Hey Susan! I think these few videos will help with explaining my walking philosophy: Loose Leash Walking Strategy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqjOpXudZcR2ga8 Leash Skills for Humans: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnm4mquprb2WhcU But in general, I don't think the first is too permissive at all, and the second, that's up to you!

So with that heel our dog is a aussiedoodle and he bites are fingers when we try he is 4 years old and never had training so now we trying to start he gives up. I would like to do leash training focus training and heel but he doesn't seem to have motivation for it but maybe I'm doing something wrong he is great motivated and toy motivated I have tried many different things to keep him engaged however he gives up about 2 mins in. Would love some advice
@DoggyU
@DoggyU Жыл бұрын
If he's giving up in two minutes, train for 1 minute, and reinforce at a higher rate. So if in those two minutes you gave 5 treats, give 10 treats in 1 minute. Build his engagement before trying anything new. And if you're struggling with getting nibbled on, I address that in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqSqnoGLnNSsbKs Hope that helps!

@@DoggyU perfect I will give this a try!! And with treats I was told not to give as much as he would eat so about 6 peices for training cuz otherwise I would end up over feeding
@DoggyU

@@breahogenkamp Just get high quality treats (you can check some of the ones I like out in the description above or in my "treat" video) and then just decrease his normal food ration a bit. That should solve that issue. Being generous with reinforcement will get you where you want to go faster :)
